Small and medium agility dogs alter their kinematics when the distance between hurdles differs
There is currently a lack of research examining the health and welfare implications for competitive agility dogs. The aim of this study was to examine if jump kinematics and apparent joint angles in medium (351 mm - 430 mm to the withers) and small (< 350 mm to the withers) agility dogs altered when distances between consecutive upright hurdles differ. Dogs ran a course of nine hurdles; three set at 3.6 m apart; three at 4 m apart and three at 5 m apart. Both medium (P=0.044) and small (P=0.006) dogs landed closer to the hurdle when consecutive hurdles were set at 3.6 m apart, with small dogs jumping slower at this distance (P=0.006). Results indicate that jump kinematics, but not apparent joint angles, alter when the spacing between hurdles differs. These findings may have implications for the health and welfare of agility dogs and should be used to inform future changes to rules and regulations
Community Based Programs: An Alternative Approach For Treating/Preventing Childhood Obesity In Low-Income and Ethnically Diverse Families
Research Question: Will using local community-programs in place of the current standards of diet and exercise counseling be more effective in reducing overweight and obesity among children ages 3-7 in low-income and ethnically diverse families? Hypothesis- We believe community programs are a more viable resource for low-income families due to their convenience and propensity to provide programming structured to accommodate the social and cultural factors of citizens within their neighborhoods. We expect to realize significant differences favoring the community-based program group over control group for all indicated measures. There may be an association between low counseling rates of physicians and percentage of minority patients, particularly those whose first language is one other than English. We expect to realize this association through the design of our study. Finally, we expect to see improvements in the diet and exercise knowledge base in participating patientsMaster of Public Healt
Identifying as author: exploring the pedagogical basis for assisting diverse students to discover their identities through creatively defined literacy narratives
This thesis explores the current discourse surrounding the redefinition of concepts such as text and authorship in the field of composition studies. Drawing from scholarship on topics ranging from multi-modal composition to feminist historical-appropriation, the author builds a case for redefining these concepts to include a broader range of texts and author-voices from which instructors can draw for course readings. By focusing on the particular instance of selecting readings to teach a literacy narrative unit in a first year college composition course, the author shows how redefining and broadening concepts of text and authorship may allow for students to more easily identify with a literary heritage and identify themselves as authors whose literacy-related experiences have something significant to add to the academic conversation. The chapters present a review of literature, introduce methods and processes for teaching a literacy narrative unit in a freshman composition course, offer the reflections of the instructor on teaching the literacy narrative, and justify a process of selecting texts which aren\u27t necessarily identified as literacy narratives as models for student literacy narratives --Leaf iv
Age, office type, job satisfaction and performance
Age is everything but a number, as it covers individual changes in physical, mental, social and societal aspects; factors that influence people’s perceptions and expectations in life. This research focuses on ageing in an environment which normally covers a long period of time in life: the workplace. The aim of this study is to get insight into the influence of age in relation to the experience of the office environment and job performance. A differentiation will be made between traditional cellular offices with assigned places andflexible office concepts(i.e. more open layouts with non-assigned placesand multiple age groups will be distinguished). It is important to emphasize the effects of ageing on an individual performance level as well as on an organizational performance level. The results can help organizations to anticipate the possible difficulties people from different ages encounter in general in their work environment. Also, these findings can give organizations insight into how the preferences of employees of different ages can be taken into account. The results will lead into suggestions for making the work environment attractive for employees of all age groups and to recruit or retain talented and valuable employees.Overall, the outcomes will be supportive for decision-making regarding optimization or adaptation of the current or new office environment.Real Estate and HousingArchitecture and The Built Environmen
Real Estate and HousingArchitecture and The Built Environmen

Werkomgeving beïnvloedt bedrijfsresultaat: CfPB onderzoekt werkomgeving
Het Center for People and Buildings bestaat tien jaar. Real Estate and HousingArchitecture and The Built Environmen
