Reflections From Advances in Global Leadership's Emerald Literati Award Winners
Get PDFThe book/journal editors of Emerald Publishing are asked to select the Outstanding Author Contribution in each volume, which is a difficult choice. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the Emerald Literati Awards were handed out in a ceremony at the Academy of Management Meeting. Because that practice ended, we decided to showcase the work of our award winners, beginning with volume 8, who have made very important contributions to the field of global leadership. We were also very curious about the impact of their article and what they would write differently today. Teaching Transgender Singers
Get PDFThesis (D.M.A.)--University of Washington, 2017-06The goal of this paper is to provide an accessible resource for voice teachers teaching transgender singers. In order to best serve the students, teachers must be aware of obstacles facing transgender singers, including gender dysphoria and discrimination, legal and social obstacles, and the physical changes associated with hormone replacement therapy. For example, when teaching transgender male singers, it is important to consider the physical changes that occur with the initiation of testosterone, including the lowering of the vocal pitch. Other necessary considerations include navigating the voice during the transition process as well as establishing appropriate registration and resonance strategies after the vocal transition is complete. In contrast, when teaching transgender women singers, it is important to realize that the voice will not experience any permanent changes due to hormone replacement therapy. In order to achieve a more feminine sound in speech, transgender women will likely utilize forward resonance, which can result in vocal fatigue and tension in the vocal mechanism if not guided to do so with vocal health in mind. Necessary considerations include encouraging release in the vocal mechanism and establishing registration and resonance strategies, especially in the higher register. Choice of repertoire for both transgender men and transgender women should prioritize the singer’s comfort level and current vocal ability

Platforms that are part of the visual Web use images, rather than text, as the primary content of a post. Text may appear, but it is secondary to the image, essentially the opposite of a long blog post where the primary content is text with optional pictures placed for emphasis or enhancement.

Libraries and Tumblr: A quantitative analysis
No full textThis study is a quantitative analysis of the microblogging site Tumblr in order to determine how this platform is currently being used by libraries and special collections/archives in the United States. Data on library Tumblr blogs was collected at three points during a one year period and included library type, start date, number of posts, average posts per day, type of post, as well as other descriptive information. There is a growing library presence on the social media site Tumblr.
