Two new rarely collected species of Annonaceae from the Peruvian Amazon
While preparing a taxonomic revision of the Neotropical genus Klarobelia Chatrou (Annonaceae), two species new to science – Klarobelia icoja S.Lara & Chatrou, sp. nov., and Malmea abscondita Chatrou & Gees, sp. nov. – were discovered. Both species are known from only two collections, made in Amazonian Peru. We clarify their generic placement and taxonomic identity based on a comparison of morphological characters with previously described species and on molecular phylogenetic analysis of four plastid markers. The conservation status of both species is assessed following IUCN criteria, and line drawings and distribution map are provided
[[alternative]]A LONGITUDINAL STUDY ON GIFTED EARLY ENTRANTS IN TAIPEI CITY
[[abstract]]The study was intended to explore the school experience and school adjustment of the primary gifted early entrants (GEEs) in Taipei City in academic year of 1988, and to investigate comments of GEEs, of GEEs' parents and of GEEs' teachers.
The composition of the subjects were (1) 32 GEEs, (2) 48 of their past and current teachers, and (3) 10 pairs of GEEs and their parents selected by screened standard after semi-structural interviews. The methodologies of the study were (1) subject data obtained by "GEEs' School Experience Questionnaire", "GEEs' Teachers Questionnaire", and "Interview Questionnair of GEEs and of their parents ". (2) subject data analyzed by percentage and "content analysis" .
The main findings were as follows :
(1) For educational experience, GEEs' early entrancy was decided by their parents. While half of the GEEs were in the gifted class at primary school, only few of them attended gifted class during their studying in junior / senior high school. Most GEEs entered junior high school by general admission, and most of them continued their senior high school studies by sitting for the united entrance examination.
(2) During the period of primary school and junior / senior high school, most GEEs' academic achievement were in the lead of the class. Their health and physical development were in good conditions. GEEs not only had well - control of their self - emotion, but also did they keep harmonious relations with teachers and classmates.
(3) During the senior high school period, as facing the national entrance examination for colleges, GEEs were pressurized by the school work, their self - expectation, and expectations from others who are important to them. Nevertheless, both GEEs' physical development and their relations with others were in a fair form. Although over half of the GEEs were not satisfied with their current performance, most of them were self - confidence and self - valued.
(4) Regarding the system for gifted early entrance, most subjects had positive attitudes, and were in favor of such a assessment. The age and IQ was considered by subjects to be 5 1/2-years-old and above +2 standard deviation(SD). Mental ability was put by subjects as preference before levels of social emotion or of learning readiness. Finally, all subjects support the gifted education for GEEs in school.
In sum, the result demonstrated that GEEs had good adjustment during their 10- years-period school experience. In addition, the study also provided the practical value for the gifted education design. Finally, based on the findings, suggestions for related educational administrative, schools, teachers, parents and future research were made.
Unsupervised Day-Night Domain Adaptation with a Physics Prior for Image Classification
While deep neural networks show great potential for being part of safety-critical applications such as autonomous driving, covering their sensitivity to illumination shifts by adding training data is of- ten non-trivial. The undesired illumination shift between train and test data can be addressed by domain adaptation methods. Recent work [9] has demonstrated performance improvements with a novel zero-shot domain adaptation setting by in- troducing a physics-based visual inductive prior - a trainable Color Invariant Convolution (CIConv) layer - aiming to transform its input to a more do- main invariant representation. We compare the performance of image classifica- tion for day-night domain adaptation in the zero- shot and the unsupervised setting, and explore the effectiveness of using CIConv in both settings. We show that unsupervised domain adaptation reduces the day-night distribution shift similarly to CIConv in the zero-shot setting. We demonstrate improved performance when CIConv and unsupervised day- night domain adaptation are combined.CSE3000 Research ProjectComputer Science and Engineerin
Estimating image distortions for mirror anamorphoses using sampled point displacements
The principle of a mirror anamorphosis relies on distortion caused by a reflective object of a particular shape and the perspective of a viewer looking into the reflective object to look at an image on the surface. The distortion of the reflected image is intended to form a recognizable image, while the image on the surface looks completely different. There are many ways a computer could aid the creation of this form of art by determining how the image is being distorted, but in most cases a regular artist would not know specific geometric details of the scene. In these cases a solution is for the creator to provide any image on the surface and an image of its distortion caused by the scene. The creator can match points between both images to guide the computer into calculating the (estimated) distortion.CSE3000 Research ProjectComputer Science and Engineerin

Divine empowerment: The Holy Spirit and church revitalisation
How do principles of church revitalisation correlate with the divine work of the Holy Spirit? This article argues that the Spirit is the primary agent of church revitalisation, and churchleaders should cooperate with the Spirit as he works for revitalisation. Thus the Spirit empowers church leaders who are used by him to revive, renew, and revitalise a church community. After briefly defining the Spirit’s empowerment with biblical examples, this article examines the underlying principles of empowerment for church leaders, followed by briefly considering methodology for church revitalisation. The author concludes by suggesting several signs of biblical empowerment in a local church community.
Embedding Business Start-Up in the University Curriculum
This short resource was originally presented as part of the HEA GEES Subject Centre’s project on Enterprise, Skills and Entrepreneurship in the GEES disciplines, and used in Enterprise modules at University of Leeds. It provides a generic introduction for HE staff to the embedding of business start-up learning opportunities into the curriculum. The author considers various approaches, including the development of a whole module, the integration of appropriate materials throughout the curriculum and where in the curriculum such an approach could sit. Other source materials are also suggested.
Pointcloud based anatomy: Synthesis project report
The declining availability of practical hours for medical anatomical education has prompted Enatom to develop a digital anatomical platform, utilizing the open-source WebGL-based point cloud renderer Potree. This platform, which employs detailed point cloud scans of anatomical structures, aims to offer a dynamic and interactive educational experience. Although Enatom's focus is not directly on geomatics, the techniques employed in this project have strong parallels with those used in geomatics, thereby enabling a symbiotic exchange of expertise. This interdisciplinary approach enhances the development of Enatom’s digital platform, with the potential to contribute to the field of geomatics. To address existing user experience challenges, this project has added a lasso-selection tool tailored for Potree, advanced annotation capabilities, and methods for sensitive data anonymization within the point cloud. The project's outcomes will be available in an open-source format at https://github.com/GEO1101-Synthesis-Group4/Selection-Annotation-Repo. This project exemplifies the versatile application of geomatics expertise beyond its traditional scope, demonstrating its potential in enhancing diverse domains such as medical education.Geomatic
Die Heilige Gees en spiritualiteit in teologiese opleiding1
The Holy Spirit and spirituality in theological training. This aticle discusses the theme "spirituality" in terms of changing paradigms. The author argues that the present-day holistic perspective of spirituality can be regarded as a phenomenon of postmodernity. Aspects of this paradigm are: the emphasis on the relationship between the work of God's Spirit and human beings' encounter with God, as well as the relationship between human beings and God's creation. This indicates a holistic perspective on reality. The author discusses the question regarding spiritualiy in the context of the theological training of ministers of the Nederduitsch Hervormde Kerk. The shift from moderniy to postmoderniy demands a rethinking of theological training. In theological training there should also be time for meditation. Theologians who want to speak about God should make time to listen of God
Group work assessment: some key considerations in developing good practice
