Secukinumab Response in Korean Patients with Moderate to Severe Plaque-Type Psoriasis Irrespective of Previous Biologic Use: 1-Year Experience at a Single Center
Simulation of cylindrical plunge grinding based on the behaviour of cutting edge wear
In cylindrical plunge grinding, a series of workpieces are ground successively without intermediate dressing of the wheel. Through the grinding, the wheel characteristic is continuously changed by the wear, fracture and new exposure of abrasive grains, having a profound effect on the grains on wheel surfaces in the cylindrical grinding process are developed to make it possible to describe the time dependent results of grinding and to establish the grinding operation standards capable of estimating grinding wheel performance and selecting grinding conditions, in which many parameters in actual grinding operations are considered. This simulation system can display its results in graphical form including the time dependent results and the effects of various parameters as well as optimization capabilities. This simulation has the same effects as many grinding experiments, and capable of selecting the optimum grinding wheels and conditions

Exchange-bias of NiFe/NiO bilayer
Exchange-bias (H-ex) of NiFe/NiO bilayers grown epitaxially on MgO(100) and MgO(111) have been measured in order to understand exchange biasing phenomena more clearly. According to HRXRD, the separate reflections of MgO and NiO were observed, which implied that NiO layers grew epitaxially on MgO substrates. The rms roughness (R-rms) of NiO on MgO(100) measured by AFM was 1.79 angstrom while that of NiO on MgO(111) was 17.85 angstrom. Despite a higher R-rms, the value of H-ex, 85 Oe in the case of NiFe/NiO on MgO(111) was larger than that of NiFc/NiO on MgO(100), 47 Oe, probably due to stronger effect of (111) texture of NiO surface. But low He,, of NiFe/NiO on MgO(111) implied that exchange biasing was generated by not only upcompensated spins but also compensated spins of NiO. He,, of NiFe/NiO bilayer grown on Si(100) was 118 Oe. According to SEM, grain size of NiO surface grown on Si(100) was very small, which mean its domain size was also very small. The explanation of the effect of domain size was consistent with random field model
Toma y lee
Background: Since the advent of biologics, they have been an efficient treatment for severe psoriasis vulgaris. Psoriasis that is refractory to biologics is associated with factors, such as old age, a high initial psoriasis area and severity index, a high body mass index (BMI), and nail involvement. Objective: We evaluated the clinical characteristics and differences in laboratory parameters in patients witfi severe psoriasis who switched biologics at least once. Methods: We analyzed the demographics, medical records, and laboratory data of 29 Korean patients who had switched biologics. Patients were classified into two groups based on the number of times they switched to biologics. Results: The reasons for switching biologics in the 29 patients were primary failure (37.9%), secondary failure (58.6%), and occurrence of adverse events (3.5%). The multiple switching group showed higher mean values than the single switching group for the factors associated with low efficacy of biologics, such as age at initial presentation (43.4±9.6 years vs. 42.1 ±12.1 years), an initial psoriasis area severity index (15.3±6.3 vs. 12.9±4.4), and a BMI (27.4±4.0 kg/m2and 26.3±3.4 kg/m2), respectively. Conclusion: In this single-centered study, secondary failure was the most common reason for switching biologics. Higher mean values for factors affecting the efficacy of biologics were noted in the multiple switching group; however, the difference was not statistically significant. When choosing biologics for patients, dermatologists should be mindful of this as they select the second-line biologics
A putative secreted solute binding protein, SCO6569 is a possible AfsR2-dependent down-regulator of actinorhodin biosynthesis in Streptomyces coelicolor
The authors are very grateful to the technical support provided
by the ERC of Inha University.AfsR2 is a global regulatory protein involved in stimulating the biosynthesis of antibiotics in various Streptomyces species. Using 2-D gel electrophoresis and MALDI-TOF analyses, several putative AfsR2-target proteins were previously identified. In order to verify the biological significance of the proteomics-guided targets, the sixteen putative AfsR2 target genes were individually cloned under the strong-and-constitutive promoter (PermE(+)) of the Streptomyces expression vector, pSE34, followed by the transformation into both Streptomyces lividans and Streptomyces coelicolor. Among the putative AfsR2-target genes tested, the expression of a putative secreted solute binding protein, SCO6569 significantly repressed biosynthesis of actinorhodin in S. coelicolor, and the transcripts encoded by the pathway-specific activator, actll-ORF4 for actinorhodin were also reduced in SCO6569-overexpressing S. coelicolor. Moreover, SCO6569 gene-disruption in S. coelicolor further enhanced actinorhodin production, suggesting that the SCO6569 could be a possible AfsR2-dependent down-regulator acting in actinorhodin biosynthesis in S. coelicolor.
