Isolated colonies of the independent transformants were streaked onto LB-Ap plates and incubated overnight at the indicated temperatures. () Presents the immunodetection of Pth(Ts) in the (Ts) mutant strain AA7852 separately transformed with pVH124, pVH125, pVH119, ptRNACCA (X, R, T, M) or pTH2 (W) and grown at 32°C prior to transfer at time = 0 min at 41 or 43°C. The concentration of Pth(Ts) protein was estimated by immunoblot analysis. The left lane shows purified wild-type Pth protein, which migrates slightly faster in SDS–PAGE than the Pth(Ts) variant (arrowed) ()

Emergence of oblique TS mode due to longitudinal wall oscillation in 2D channel flow

No full text
Stabilizing effects of wall oscillation on two dimensional (2D) Tollmein-Schlichting (TS) waves and oblique TS waves developing in 2D channel flow are numerically investigated using the Floquet method. It was shown from the previous study[1] that the wall oscillation mostly has stabilizing effect and then TS mode is occasionally more stable than the oblique mode. In the present study the characteristics of the stability are investigated in detail. Then it is cleared that the exchange of the most unstable mode form the 2D TS to the oblique TS can occur at a certain value of Reynolds number

Damage tolerance of composite toecap

No full text
In this study, the glass fiber polyester composite toecap for safety shoes was designed and manufactured to increase the energy absorption capacity during impact and to reduce the weight of steel toecap. The static compression and drop weight impact tests of 191 the composite toecap were performed with respect to stacking sequence, and the damage after impact was measured by macrography and CAI (Compression after impact) test. From the experimental results. it was found that the stacking sequence and fiber types of the composite toecaps had much influence on the static stiffness and impact damage of the toecap. The weight saving of the composite toecap was about 40% compared with the steel toecap of comparable static and impact characteristics. (C) 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved

Failure modes of foam core sandwich beams under static and impact loads

No full text
In recent times, sandwich structures have been widely used in load bearing structures due to their high specific stiffness and high specific strength. Some sandwich structures, such as those used in high speed transportations, are required to have high impact energy absorption characteristics also. Since sandwich structures can fail in various modes, in this article, the static failure modes and load capabilities of foam core composite sandwich beams composed of E-glass/Epoxy and PVC foam were investigated by both experimental and analytic methods. The static load capabilities and failure modes predicted by the theory of beam on elastic foundation showed good agreement with the three-point bending test results. Using the experimental and analytic results, the static failure mode map was constructed. Also, the impact failure modes and the impact energy absorption characteristics of the sandwich beams were studied by the impact test and the finite element analysis. From the test result, it was found that the face failure mode was favorable for the high impact energy absorption. Using the experimental and finite element analysis results, the impact failure mode map was constructed

High performance speaker verification system based on multilayer perceptrons and real-time enrollment

No full text
Speaker verification systems based on multilayer perceptrons (MLI's) have good prospects in reliability and flexibility as required for a successful authentication system. However, poor learning speed of error backpropagation (EBP), the representative method of learning for MLPs, has been the major problem which must be resolved to achieve real-time user enrollment. In this paper, we implement an MLP-based speaker verification system by applying methods of omitting patterns in instant learning (OIL) and discriminative cohort speakers (DCS) to approach the real-time enrollment. We evaluate the system on a Korean speech database and demonstrate the feasibility of it as a speaker verification system of high performance
