Deux versions des Mémoires de Chiang Ching-kuo, fils de Chiang Kai-shek, de son séjour en Union Soviétique

    No full text
The subject of this work is the presentation of two contradictory versions of memoirs of Chiang Ching-kuo, son of Chiang Kai-shek, the president of the Republic of China’s until 1975, describing his twelve years’ stay in Soviet Union between 1925 and 1937. After his return to China, Chiang Ching-kuo assisted his father in his autocratic conduct of Chinese politics directed against Mao’s communists, at first in continental China and then in Taiwan. The first memoirs, published in 1947, glorify communist achievements in the Soviet Union during Chiang Ching-kuo stay there, but the second memoirs, on the contrary, vilify the communists and their deceitful, in the opinion of its author, ideology. This work presents the French translation of the first memoirs, never yet fully translated into any European language, and points out the contradictions, omissions and distortions of reality in both of them. It tries to explain reasons lying behind those inconsistencies.</p

Adjusted Iterated Greedy for the optimization of additive manufacturing scheduling problems

    No full text
As a disruptive technology, additive manufacturing (AM) is revolutionizing manufacturing supply chains. AM consists of producing 3-dimensional objects through layer-by-layer addition of compound material based on digital models. The scheduling of AM operations differs from traditional (i.e., subtractive and injection molding) manufacturing with a single production run involving several parts/geometries; this makes the jobs heterogeneous. Limited studies have investigated the Additive Manufacturing Scheduling Problems (AMSP). This study extends the Iterated Greedy algorithm to solve the AMSPs considering a single-machine production setting. For this purpose, several computational mechanisms are customized to account for AM-specific characteristics of production scheduling. Numerical analysis shows that the vast majority of the best-found solutions are yielded by the Adjusted Iterated Greedy (AIG) algorithm considering both solution quality and stability; the outperformance becomes more significant with an increase in problem size. Statistical analysis confirms that AIG’s performance is notably better than that of the existing solution algorithm in terms of solution quality and stability. This study is concluded by providing directions for future development of AM and AMSPs to extend the industrial reach of 3D printing technology

Effects of inotilone on inflammation and inflammation-associated tumorigenesis

Inflammation, a complex process, involving numerous mediators of cellular and plasma origins, is considered to be a critical factor in many human diseases and conditions, including obesity, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, aging, and cancers. Inotilone, a secondary metabolite recently found in the dietary Inonotus mushroom, has been reported as a potent inflammatory inhibitor in test tube. However, its inhibitory effect at cellular level as well as in animal model remain unclear. The anti-inflammatory effects of inotilone were investigated in vitro using lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated murine macrophage. Inotilone was shown to inhibit nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) production through modulating inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression and cyclooxygenase 2 (COX 2) enzyme activity, respectively. It is also found that inotilone can only suppressed the expression of iNOS but not COX 2. This divergence may origin from the differential effect of inotilone on transcription factors, nuclear factor κB (NF κB) and CCAAT enhancer-binding protein (C/EBP). However, this differential effect was not found in the in vivo study employing 12 O tetradecanoylphorbol 13 acetate (TPA)-treated mouse skin. This finding suggested that the effects of inotilone on C/EBPβ expression may be cell type- or stimuli-specific. The inhibitory effects of inotilone were also observed on the activation of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/Akt (PI3K/Akt), extracellular signal-regulated protein kinase 1/2 (ERK1/2) and p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathways both in vitro and in vivo. Furthermore, the ability of inotilone to prevent inflammation-associated tumorigenesis was also evaluated using a classical two-stage mouse skin carcinogenesis model. After initiation of 7,12 dimethylbenz[a]nthracene (DMBA), applying inotilone topically before each TPA treatment was found to reduce the incidence and multiplicity of papillomas at 20th week. Taken together, the results suggest that inotilone has potential to be developed into an effective chemopreventive agent for the treatment of a variety of inflammatory diseases, especially the prevention and treatment of epithelial skin cancer.Ph.D.Includes bibliographical referencesIncludes vitaby Yu-Ching Ku
