A frequency averaging framework for the solution of complex dynamic systems
A frequency averaging framework is proposed for the solution of complex linear dynamic systems. It is remarkable that, while the mid-frequency region is usually very challenging, a smooth transition from low- through mid- and high-frequency ranges is possible and all ranges can now be considered in a single framework. An interpretation of the frequency averaging in the time domain is presented and it is explained that the average may be evaluated very efficiently in terms of system solutions
Zero and root loci of disturbed spring-mass systems
Models consisting of chains of particles that are coupled to their neighbours appear in many applications in physics or engineering, such as in the study of dynamics of mono-atomic and multi-atomic lattices, the resonances of crystals with impurities and the response of damaged bladed discs. Analytical properties of the dynamic responses of such disturbed chains of identical springs and masses are presented, including when damping is present. Several remarkable properties in the location of the resonances (poles) and anti-resonances (zeros) of the displacements in the frequency domain are presented and proved. In particular, it is shown that there exists an elliptical region in the frequency–disturbance magnitude plane from which zeros are excluded and the discrete values of the frequency and disturbance at which double poles occur are identified. A particular focus is on a local disturbance, such as when a spring or damper is modified at or between the first and last masses. It is demonstrated how, notably through normalization, the techniques and results of the paper apply to a broad category of more complex systems in physics, chemistry and engineering
Diospyros nitidula Lecomte
Diospyros nitidula Lecomte Les Bois de l’Indochine: 189 (Lecomte 1925). — Diospyros finetii Lecomte, Notulae Systematicae 4 (4): 114 (Lecomte 1928a), nom. superfl. ACCEPTED NAME. — D. rhodocalyx Kurz. TYPES. — Annam. Massif de Co Hin près de Nhatrang [= Vietnam. Khanh Hoa, Mt. ], 10.III.1922, Poilane 2782 (lecto-, P [P00721683]!, designated here; isolecto-, NY [NY00335022]!; P [P 00721684, P00721685]!; VNM [VNM00015250, VNM00015251, VNM00015252, VNM00015253]!). NOTES Lecomte (1925: 189) cited Poilane 2782 and 6869 from Nhatrang and Poilane 9872 and 9723 from Phanrang as the original material. Later, he described Diospyros finetii Lecomte (1928a: 114) based on the same collections, except Poilane 9872 which he no longer cited as one of the relevant specimens and appears to be lost. As there appears to be no reason why Lecomte rejected the earlier epithet, D. finetii is a superfluous name, homotypic with D. nitidula. Three of the cited collections have been located at NY, P and VNM, but we could not find Poilane 9872. Here, we designate the specimen P00721683 from Poilane 2782 as the lectotype because it is the best preserved out of the only two sheets across the three gatherings to have been determined by Lecomte as a type of D. finetii (the other being VNM00015247 from Poilane 6869).Published as part of Meeprom, Nattanon, Utteridge, Timothy, Culham, Alastair & Puglisi, Carmen, 2022, Lectotypification of Indochinese Ebenaceae published by P. Diospyros dussaudii Lecomte
Diospyros dussaudii Lecomte Notulae Systematicae 4 (4): 113 (Lecomte 1928a). TYPES. — Laos. Dussaud 120 (lecto-, P [P00721485]!, designated here; isolecto-, P [P00721486, P 02141495]!). NOTES Lecomte (1928a: 113) cited Dussand 120 from Laos as the original material. The collector’s name cited by Lecomte is a typographical error for “ Dussaud ”, after whom the species is named. Three sheets of Dassaud 120 annotated as “type” have been located at P, among which we designate here P00721485 as the lectotype.Published as part of Meeprom, Nattanon, Utteridge, Timothy, Culham, Alastair & Puglisi, Carmen, 2022, Lectotypification of Indochinese Ebenaceae published by P. Diospyros ehretioides var. aho Lecomte
Diospyros ehretioides Wall. ex G.Don var. aho Lecomte Flore générale de l’Indo-Chine 3 (7): 925 (Lecomte 1930). ACCEPTED NAME. — D. ehretioides Wall. ex G.Don. TYPES. — Cambodia. Béjaud 6 (lecto-, P [P00721487]!, designated here; isolecto-, P [P00721492, P00721493]!; VNM [VNM00015198, VNM00015199, VNM00015200]!). NOTES Lecomte (1930: 925) only cited the collection of Béjaud from Cambodia as the original material. Six sheets of the collection of Béjaud 6 collected from Cambodia have been located at P and VNM, of which P00721487 is the best preserved and was identified at the variety level by Lecomte himself (the other sheets from the same collection were identified as D. ehretioides by Lecomte). This specimen is, therefore, designated here as the lectotype.Published as part of Meeprom, Nattanon, Utteridge, Timothy, Culham, Alastair & Puglisi, Carmen, 2022, Lectotypification of Indochinese Ebenaceae published by P. Diospyros harmandii , Lecomte 1928
Diospyros harmandii Lecomte Notulae Systematicae 4 (4): 121 (1928a). — D. ehretioides Wall. ex G.Don var. harmandii Lecomte, Flore générale de l’Indo-Chine 3 (7): 925 (Lecomte 1930). ACCEPTED NAME. — D. ehretioides Wall. ex G.Don. TYPES. — Cambodia. ad Bonthey in Prov. Kokek/ Cokek [= , ], II.1876, Harmand 415 (lecto-, P [P00721490]!, designated here; isolecto-, P [P00721488, P00721489, P00721491]!). NOTES In the protologue of Diospyros harmandii, Lecomte (1928a: 121) cited Harmand 415 from “ Cambodge: prov. de Kokek” as the original material. He did not cite D. harmandii in the 1930 account, neither as a species nor as a synonym. We found that the description of D. ehretioides Wall. ex G.Don var. harmandii Lecomte (1930: 925) matches with D. harmandii Lecomte (1928a: 121), and the original material of D. ehretioides var. harmandii is “ Cambodge: (Harmand)”. We consider D. harmandii a homotypic synonym of D. ehretioides var. harmandii in Lecomte’s intentions. We located four sheets of Harmand 415 at P, and here we designate the specimen P00721490 as the lectotype.Published as part of Meeprom, Nattanon, Utteridge, Timothy, Culham, Alastair & Puglisi, Carmen, 2022, Lectotypification of Indochinese Ebenaceae published by P. VI.1919, Poilane 9 (lecto-, P, first-step designated by Nguyen [1996: 63]; P [P00721429]!, second-step designated here; isolecto-, P [P00721430]!; VNM [VNM00015099, VNM00015100]!). NOTES In the original publication of this taxon, Lecomte (1928a: 105) only cited Poilane 9 collected from “ Annam: Bangoi” as the original gathering. Nguyen (1996: 64) cited “ Poilane 9 – P (holo)”, however, two sheets of this collection were located at P. Here we designate the specimen with barcode P00721429 as the lectotype. The sheet is the best preserved of the gathering and bears more extensive label data.Published as part of Meeprom, Nattanon, Utteridge, Timothy, Culham, Alastair & Puglisi, Carmen, 2022, Lectotypification of Indochinese Ebenaceae published by P.
