Architects’ training and profession: current status, trends and perspectives
The context surrounding architectural projects in Italy is heavily influenced by the role and strategies of clients, the legal framework and the dynamics of the building sector. There are furthermore certain peculiarities that define the design market when compared to the European situation: from the number of architects to restricted overall revenues in the construction sector, from the marginal role that is usually given to design to unsolved issues in the organisation of training. The disciplinary debate posits and focuses on several critical topics that are highlighted here through a critical reading of the many contributions that have been collected

In vitro and in silico studies of polycondensed diazine systems as anti-infective agents
Infective diseases caused by protozoarian agents are still relevant today
more than ever. In fact, they represent the first cause of death all over the world
with seventeen millions victims every year. The development of drug resistance
and the broad diffusion of these pathologies make actual the research of new
molecules able to act as selective and effective anti-infective chemotherapics.[1]
Recently several polycondensed
diazine derivatives, by means 1,3-dipolar
cycloaddition, reactions [2, 3] were
synthesized.
A broad selection of these
compounds chosen with a wide pattern of
substitutions were submitted to biological
in vitro screening against Plasmodium
falciparum, Leishmania Infantum,
Trypanosoma brucei e Trypanosoma
cruzi, and they resulted active at
micromolar level. In order to identify
molecular targets able to explain the
mechanism of action of these compounds,
we performed Induced Fit Docking/MM-GBSA modeling studies. The obtained
results give interesting indications about the probable mechanism of action of the
most active compounds.

In Italia il ruolo e le strategie dei committenti, l’apparato normativo, le dinamiche del settore delle costruzioni condizionano fortemente il contesto entro cui il progetto di architettura viene realizzato. Si registrano, inoltre, alcune peculiarità che differenziano sensibilmente il mercato della progettazione rispetto alla situazione europea.
Dal numero di architetti alla contrazione del fatturato complessivo del settore costruzioni; dal ruolo del tutto marginale cui spesso è relegato il progetto alle questioni mai risolte riferite alle filiere formative. Emergono diversi elementi di criticità che il dibattito disciplinare mette a fuoco e che vengono qui restituiti da una lettura critica dei molti contributi pervenuti

Towards the pharmacotherapy of hairy cell leukaemia
Hairy cell leukaemia (HCL) offers one of the few examples of rapid progress in the development of effective treatments for chronic lymphoproliferative disorders. After the first description of HCL as a separate disease in 1958, splenectomy was the treatment of choice, but rarely resulted in remission of disease and had scarce benefit on survival. In 1984, IFN-alpha became the first agent able to significantly modify the prognosis of HCL by inducing high response rates and long-term remissions. More recently, purine analogues have significantly further increased the percentages of remissions, with a reduced risk of relapse and are now generally used as first-line treatment. Monoclonal antibodies targeting CD20, CD22 and CD25 antigens, have also shown responses for resistant or relapsing disease. This article will review the current treatment strategies for HCL

Moto all'imbocco di un canale rettangolare controllato da paratoia piana. Analisi sperimentale e modellazione numerica 3D
L’articolo riassume i risultati di una ricerca sperimentale indirizzata allo studio del moto all’imbocco di un canale rettangolare,
controllato da paratoia piana. La paratoia è posta sulla parete di valle di una vasca o serbatoio, considerando
tre inclinazioni della parete stessa, mentre il fondo del canale e quello della vasca stanno sullo stesso piano orizzontale.
Lo studio sperimentale ha permesso di ottenere l’espressione del coefficiente d’efflusso in funzione dell’apertura
relativa (rapporto tra l’apertura verticale della paratoia e il livello nella vasca); si è notato che, per la determinazione
dei coefficienti d’efflusso, l’inclinazione della parete su cui è posta la paratoia è trascurabile. E’ stata eseguita
poi una modellazione numerica con un software di fluidodinamica computazionale 3-D, validato con i risultati ottenuti
sperimentalmente. Con lo stesso software sono stati calcolati i coefficienti d’efflusso in un ampio range di aperture relative
della paratoia, pervenendo a un grafico utilizzabile nelle applicazioni pratiche
Sliding-mode control of bidirectional dc-dc converter for supercapacitor energy storage applications
A great interest in the last years has been paid in the literature to the application of supercapacitors in many existing or innovative systems. Bidirectional dc-dc converters chopper are intrinsic candidates to couple the supercapacitor devices to electric power systems. It might be very useful to adopt coupled-inductor configurations for increasing efficiency against high-voltage step-up ratio. In the paper, a sliding mode control technique is proposed in order to improve the performances of a certain dc-dc bidirectional converter topology. A numerical application is also performed with respect to a simple dc tramway system with a stationary supercapacitor storage device. The numerical results allow to remark that the sliding mode control is able to track a requested trajectory, which is determined by an optimization technique and exhibits the required robustness against the uncertainties and disturbances
