Agni Celebrates James Laughlin

Laughlin, James
James Laughlin was born on January 13, 1898, in St. Catherines, Ontario to parents John and Margaret Laughlin. He grew up in St. Catherines with siblings, George, Mary, Henry and John. At time of enlistment, James was unmarried and employed as a clerk.
On February 7, 1916, James Laughlin enlisted with the 49th Battery CFA. Trained as a signaller, James Laughlin proceeded to England with his unit, and soon found himself at the front. On February 2, 1918, he was transferred to the 10th Brigade CFA, which included the 39th Battery CFA out of Lethbridge, Alberta. In June 1918, he was accidentally injured while on the 39th Battery lacrosse team. Signaller Laughlin saw action at several key battles in France and Belgium during the course of the war.
On September 30, 1918, Signaller Laughlin died while serving near Cambrai in France. He was laid to rest at Ontario Cemetery. James Laughlin was awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal. His mother, Margaret, received the Memorial Cross and death plaque in honour of her son
