Being in the World – Martin Heidegger's Ontology and its Relevance within a Reflection Concerning Subjectification
Working with the dimensions Science and Philosophy and Subjectivity and Learning, we have analysed and become acquainted with selected passages in Martin Heidegger’s ontology as he presents it in his work Being and Time (1927). Moreover, we have attempted to put our analysis and Heidegger’s presentation into perspective by looking at how an ontology, an understanding and analysis of Being can contribute to an understanding of subjectivity and subjectification processes. In this way we intended to give a more pragmatic application to our philosophical analysis. In the project we have used the hermeneutical method of interpretation.Working with the dimensions Science and Philosophy and Subjectivity and Learning, we have analysed and become acquainted with selected passages in Martin Heidegger’s ontology as he presents it in his work Being and Time (1927). Grounds for Language. Ludwig Wittgenstein on Language, Meaning and the World.
The purpose with this project is to illuminate the relation between thought, language and the world in relation to Ludwig Wittgenstein’s philosophy of language. The focus is upon Wittgenstein’s works Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus (1921) and Philosophical Investigations (1951). One of the main goals of Tractatus is to delineate the limits of what can be said and dealt logically and what cannot. Philosophical Investigations is a work wherein the earlier theory is rejected and contradicted. Language and meaning are here clarified as dynamic elements that are use and arise in relation to language games and forms of life. In order to emphasise the social and communicational role of language some aspects of Jürgen Habermas’s theories are used. The purpose with this project is to illuminate the relation between thought, language and the world in relation to Ludwig Wittgenstein’s philosophy of language. Experiences of the Aesthetic
This project focuses on the aesthetic experience. The main question is whether the aesthetic experience can be qualified, which we have tried to do using philosophy. We use theories of Hans-Georg Gadamer in relation to hermeneutics and play, and theories by Theodor Adorno about natural beauty and art beauty. Throughout the project we relate these theories to our own experiences, both personal reflections and in relation to Peter Greenaway's film: "The Pillow Book" which we analyse. Form and content is a dualism that we try to illustrate by playing with the layout of the project, omitting traditional headlines, chapters etc. Instead we try to use textboxes, typography and quotes in creative ways, allowing form to convey meaning. This project focuses on the aesthetic experience. Dying for an ideal: The death of Jesus and Socrates
Our project’s aim is to examine the possibility of binding factors between the concepts of suicide, martyrdom, self-sacrificial death and dying for an ideal with Socrates and Jesus. We will analyze principles which can explain the actions of these characters in light of what the philosophers Plato, Albert Camus and Arthur Schopenhauer said about suicide. Furthermore, we will examine the reasoning behind these choices in link to sociological theories on suicide and what different types of suicide there are according to Emilé Durkheim. Our project’s aim is to examine the possibility of binding factors between the concepts of suicide, martyrdom, self-sacrificial death and dying for an ideal with Socrates and Jesus. Interpreting Female Circumcision
The report is dealing with the controversy of female circumcision and covers the dimension of moral philosophy. Looking at the different types of circumcision and the reasons for, meanings and consequences of performing it, we see that generalizing the practice is a misunderstanding. In the project we reflected 4 different moral theories and applied them to female circumcision. We looked at the practice from a Kantian, utilitarianist, Habermasian and cultural relativist position. Besides the moral theories, their application to female circumcision, we have also included the description of female circumcision in certain areas. Throughout the project the project we are discussing and developing the personal opinions of the group members on the practice and on each of the moral theories. The report is dealing with the controversy of female circumcision and covers the dimension of moral philosophy. Humanism Today?
In our report we have analyzed and interpreted three philosophical works written by respectively Jean-Paul Sartre, Martin Heidegger and Ernst Cassirer, in where each of their individual interpretation on humanism is given. By doing this we have gained more knowledge about all that may be taken into consideration when using the word humanism and we have made discussions based on the three philosophers different interpretations. We set out each of the three philosopher’s description of man’s situation in the world and man’s relation to man. Furthermore we describe each of the three philosopher’s terms and theories which are also very important to to each of their philosophy. In our report we have analyzed and interpreted three philosophical works written by respectively Jean-Paul Sartre, Martin Heidegger and Ernst Cassirer, in where each of their individual interpretation on humanism is given.
