Lone mothers' participation in labor market programs for means-tested benefit recipients in Germany
Get PDF"This paper examines participation in labor market programs such as job subsidies, workfare, and training programs by lone mothers receiving means-tested unemployment benefits in Germany. Since the 2005 Hartz IV labor market policy reforms, expectations that non-employed parents responsible for caring for young children should be ready for employment or labor market program participation have grown stronger. However, discretion for program assignments is left to individual case managers in employment offices. Thus, lone mothers' participation in labor market programs is studied empirically here. This can contribute to determining the extent to which lone mothers are treated as adult workers in interactions with welfare state institutions in Germany. Entries into labor market programs are analyzed on the basis of large-scale administrative data using event-history analysis. Findings are that lone mothers' participation rates in workfare programs and class-room training programs closely approach or even surpass those of single childless women by the time their youngest child is 3 - 5 years old. In the case of programs that give more direct support for entering regular employment, like job subsidies and in-firm training programs, however, lone mothers' participation rates do not reach those of childless single women until their children are 6 - 9 or even 15 - 17 years old." The book is aimed at contributing to law enforcement efforts to pre-empt and pursue the lone wolf terrorist. By taking the economic analysis of terrorism back to its core concepts of 'opportunities' and 'choices' and by insisting that all results be both computable and relevant to the investigative process, the author examines lone wolf terrorism from a unique perspective that yields new insights into the nature of the lone wolf terrorist's opportunities and choices to inflict human tragedy. No full textIn this report we document our analysis ofGeneral-Purpose computations on GraphicsProcessing Units (GPGPU) and the practicalexperience that we have gained throughoutthe process.In the analysis chapter, we analyze the dier-ences between GPUs and CPUs describe thearchitecture of the G80 chip, which is the chipon the Tesla cards available to us. Also wetake an in-depth look at three GPGPU pro-gramming languages, CUDA, OpenCL andBrookGPU, where OpenCL and CUDA issupported by the the Tesla card, and we ndseveral tools that can help with OpenCL andCUDA development.In the development chapter, we implementtwo GPGPU powered applications, namely aray tracer using CUDA and the Boids ock-ing algorithm using OpenCL and Brook+.Benchmarks are carried out, which are ana-lyzed and discussed. We nd that the GPU isindeed a powerful co-processor, but one mustbe able to program it correctly against severalfactors to obtain high performance.Lastly, we compare the three GPGPU lan-guages, that we found through the analy-sis, using a number of comparison criteria.Through the comparison we nd that CUDAis the most expressive of the three, and is alsothe must mature, while OpenCL is quicklygaining popularity in the GPGPU eld
