The impact of task level demands, work group level support and affective commitment on emotional exhaustion among services managers

    No full text
Purpose This study aims to explain the effects of affective commitment as a mediator between task-level job demands (quantitative workload, qualitative workload, feedback and role conflict) and emotional exhaustion among service mangers. Design/methodology/approach Sub-scales of task-level demand and work group-level resources have been selected from job demands and resources indigenous scale. While emotional exhaustion was measured with the subscale of Maslach burnout inventory. For this purpose, data were obtained from 239 respondents to check the relationship between variables. Amos 21 was used to analyze the model fit among variables. Findings The results of the study show that there is a significant positive relationship between high task-level demands and emotional exhaustion. The results also signify that affective commitment partially mediates the relationship. Research limitations/implications The present study is cross-sectional in design, whereas longitudinal studies would be effective to explain causality relationship. Term of service managers is also not well defined. Data were collected as per the convenient sampling technique. Originality/value The research is based on PhD thesis by the author. </jats:sec

Economic Evaluation of New Technologies and Promotions in the Australian Sheep and Wool Industries

Knowledge about the size and distribution of returns from alternative broad types of R&D and promotion investments permit strategic-level decisions about resource allocation, both within and across research programs. The Australian sheep meat and wool industries are characterised by strong cross-commodity relationships due to the joint product nature of the industries. An equilibrium displacement model of the Australian sheep meat and wool industries was developed to account for these relationships and any indirect benefits and costs arising from spill-over and feedback effects between the industries as a result of research-induced innovation or promotion. The potential annual returns and their distribution among the various industry sectors were estimated from different hypothetical investment scenarios to demonstrate the model's relevance to R&D and promotion policy and decision-making.Australian sheep and wool industries, equilibrium displacement model, cross-commodity relationships, R&D and promotion evaluation, Livestock Production/Industries,

DEVELOPMENT AND VALIDATION OF JOB DEMANDS AND RESOURCES INDIGENOUS SCALE: A DEVELOPING COUNTRY PERSPECTIVE

In this study we have looked at the development andvalidation of job demands and resources indigenous scale in thecontext of Pakistan. The purpose of scale development was to explorethe indigenous job factors for a developing country like Pakistan. The interplay of job demands and resources with indigenousrealities may cause performance outcomes differently in comparisonwith developed countries. The study is a combination of exploratoryand confirmatory approaches. The study was conducted on a sampleof 324 human services professionals for EFA, hence 264 professionalswere approached for CFA. Psychometric properties of scale wereestablished where the range of alpha reliabilities are .70 to .92 ofsubscales. Implications for counselors, administration and policymakers are discussed

Impact of Microfinance on Poverty Alleviation: A Global Analysis

    No full text
This paper investigates the impact of microfinance on poverty alleviation by using the cross-country data of microfinance institutions in 96 countries. We find that such institutions significantly affect poverty alleviation and are an effective tool for economic and financial development. Our results also show that a higher proportion of female recipients of microfinance loans and a large number of active borrowers are likely to lead to a lower level of poverty. These results remain qualitatively the same with various poverty measures and in random-effect models and a fixed-effect model.

The Impact of Microfinance on Poverty Alleviation: The Case of Pakistan

This paper examines the effect of microfinance on poverty alleviation in Pakistan using district-level panel data. We conduct fixed effect panel regressions to show a statistically significant positive impact of microfinance on household income, ownership of household assets, education, and expenditure. These results suggest that the development of microfinance is an efficient tool for both welfare improvement and poverty alleviation in Pakistan.

Individual and synergistic effects of different fertilizers and gibberellin on growth and morphology of chili seedlings

Gibberellins (GA₃), as well as the basic elements phosphorus (P), nitrogen (N), and potassium (K), are crucial to the growth of chili. This study investigates the effect of different fertilizers and plant growth regulator on the growth and morphology of chili seedlings. Soil application of NPK, urea, SOP, and DAP (2.5 g/L) was applied during sowing, and N in two splits at sowing and after twenty days of sowing while foliar application of GA₃ (50 mg/L) was applied after fifteen days of germination. The result of five seedlings' traits plant height (PH), plant girth (PG), plant spread (PS), number of leaves (NOF), and root length (RL) demonstrated a significant difference among growth-related traits in chili seedlings owing to the use of fertilizers, GA₃, and their combinations. An optimum level of K and P alone or in combination with GA₃ had a significant effect on all traits. PH was particularly influenced by the combination of GA₃ with K and P whereas other traits like PG, NOF, PS, and RL are greatly influenced by the application of NPK, urea, SOP, DAP, and their combination with GA₃. The study results showed an increase in chili seedlings' growth and morphology in response to various fertilizers and GA₃.Iza Fatima, Aiman Fatima, Muhammad Aqib Shah, Muhammad Amjad Farooq, Iftikhar Ali Ahmad, Irsa Ejaz, Daniel Adjibolosoo, Ume Laila, Muhammad Asim Rasheed, Ans Imran Shahid, Ayesha Tariq, Ume Han
