East Africa east to Mariana and Caroline islands and Samoa, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia and Norfolk Island. Found in aggregations, often in estuaries or aroung jetties, entering lower reaches of freshwater streams and rivers, 0– 12 m. Les serpents marins de Nouvelle-Calédonie
No full textOmniprésents dans les lagons et sur certains îlots, les serpents marins font partie du décor, voire du folklore de la Nouvelle-Calédonie. Ils demeurent pourtant mal connus, aussi bien des scientifiques que des naturalistes amateurs et confirmés, notamment du fait de la difficulté à les observer dans leur milieu de vie. Ce livre répond à de nombreuses questions concernant leur systématique, leur biologie, leur mode de vie ou encore leur comportement. Quel est leur biotope ? Quels sont leurs modes spécifiques d’adaptation au milieu marin ? Que mangent-ils ? Comment distinguer les différentes espèces entre elles ? Quelles sont les espèces les plus dangereuses et que faire en cas de morsure ? Après avoir retracé l’histoire évolutive du groupe et indiqué sa position systématique au sein des autres serpents, Ivan Ineich et Pierre Laboute en présentent les principales caractéristiques physiologiques et biologiques.
