Women and genital cosmetic surgery
This Issues Paper critically explores female genital cosmetic surgery in the Victorian context: to better understand what it is, who is undertaking it, and their reasons for doing so. The incidence of female genital cosmetic surgery appears to be increasing. This trend has been the subject of substantial analysis and opinion, but there is a lack of rigorous evidence on risks, efficacy, complications, and patient satisfaction. This Issues Paper considers how both individual and sociocultural factors are likely to contribute to the emerging trend, and how professional bodies, health professionals, and advocates might respond. It is intended as a starting point for further conversation, evidence-gathering, and action
A new hyaluronic acid polymer in the augmentation and restoration of labia majora
Aesthetic surgery of female external genitalia has gained increasing popularity over the past decade, with reduction of the labia minora (labiaplasty) being the procedure most commonly requested and performed. Female external genitalia lose elasticity and volume with age, but few studies describe the techniques for labia majora augmentation. Currently, very few studies have investigated the effectiveness and safety of labia majora augmentation with hyaluronic acid (HA) injection. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of labia majora augmentation with hyaluronic acid filler injection. We retrospectively analyzed 37 patients affected by hypotrophy of the labia majora, treated with HA dermal filler 28mg/ml PEG crosslinked (Neauvia® Intense Rose, Matex Lab, Switzerland) between May 2015 and July 2016. Global evaluation of the aesthetics of the intimate area and clinical data were investigated with VAS (Visual Analogic Scale) ad hoc. Adverse events and complications were recorded. A total of 37 women affected by labia majora hypotrophy were treated with 28mg/ml HA dermal filler. A significant clinical improvement was observed in the score provided by both patients and doctor. Only mild adverse events and complications were recorded. HA hydrogel with a novel crosslinking agent is able to provide a considerable rejuvenation with a simple outpatient procedure and to bring a significant clinical improvement. HA-based filler infiltration treatment in labia majora is repeatable, has virtually no complications, and is reversible
Simultaneous Labia Minora and Majora Reduction: A Case Report
ABSTRACT Labia minora enlargement may constitute a cosmetic or functional problem for a woman, potentially leading to surgery. However, more rarely, the labia majora may also be problematic for women. This case describes the rare situation of a woman presenting with enlargement of both the labia minora and majora and her subsequent simultaneous surgical treatment
2D and 3D Ultrasound Examination of Labia Minora.
The aim of the study was to prospectively evaluate,
by using 2D/3D ultrasonography and 3D color Doppler
analysis, the morphological and vascular changes in the labia
minora during the menstrual cycle of women not sexually
aroused. A total of 81 young, healthy eumenorrheic women,
in a stable heterosexual relationship ([1 year) and without
any sexual dysfunction, underwent 2D/3D ultrasound and
color Doppler examination of the labia minora on Days 3–5
and 12–14 of the menstrual cycle. Estradiol serum levels were
also evaluated. Estradiol plasma levels increased in the periovulatory
phase. The labia minora thickness increased from
the follicular (3.8±0.3mm) to the periovulatory phase (4.6
±0.4mm; p=.005). Furthermore, in the periovulatory phase,
the vaginal introitus area and the angles were wider than in the
follicular phase. The Pulsatility Index of the posterior labial
artery significantly decreased in the periovulatory period.
Three-dimensional power Doppler indices of vascularization
and blood flow in the labiaminora significantly increased in the
periovulatory period. The relationship between the different
parameters showed that estradiol was positively correlated with
labia minora thickness and vaginal introitus area and angles.
Furthermore, the circulating levels of estradiol were negatively
correlatedwith posterior labial arteryPI andpositively correlated
with other indices of labiaminora vascularization. In conclusion,
it seems that estrogen production may influence the anatomic
and vascular changes of the labia minora during the menstrual
cycle and these changes can be easily identified by ultrasoun

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
