Migrants as second-class workers in urban China? A decomposition analysis
No full textIn urban China, urban resident annual earnings are 1.3 times larger than long term rural migrant earnings as observed in a nationally representative sample in 2002. Using microsimulation, we decompose this difference into four sources, with particular attention to path dependence and statistical distribution of the estimated effects: (1) different allocation to sectors that pay different wages (sectoral effect); (2) hourly wage disparities across the two populations within sectors (wage effect); (3) different working times within sectors (hours effect); (4) different population structures (population effect). Although sector allocation is extremely contrasted, with very few migrants in the public sector and very few urban residents working as self-employed, this has no clear impact on differential earnings. Indeed, the sectoral effect is not robust to the path followed for the decomposition. We show that the migrant population has a comparative advantage in the private sector: increasing its participation into the public sector would not necessarily improve its average earnings. The second main finding is that the population effect is robust and significantly more important than wage or hours effects. This implies that the main source of disparity between the two populations is pre-market (education opportunities) rather than on-market.Chinese labor market ; earnings differentials ; migration ; discrimination

A través de la ruptura y de la inversión, tanto del canon como de roles y arquetipos, la autora formula una aproximación multifocal a algunos personajes que transitan como cuerpos marginales por el espacio textual y social de la exclusión y de la fractura. A partir de ellos, Meruane desarrolla estrategias discursivas de resistencia, en cuyo centro se desplaza el deseo y la sexualidad, que inauguran espacios especulares de gran fuerza simbólica.Las infantas by Lina Meruane proposes a new Reading of the fairy tales that are part of the children's imaginary of European literature. Through the ruptura and inversion,both of the canon and of roles and archetypes, the author formulates a multifocal approach to some characters who transit as marginal bodies through the textual and social space of exclusión and fracture. No full textRispondere alla riflessione che il gruppo di ricerca Tedea propone attraverso il convegno Affresco Italiano richiede uno sforzo, quello di svestirsi per un attimo dalle certezze che nel corso degli anni ci siamo costruiti addosso, tentando di guardarci dall’esterno per capire cosa siamo diventati. Chiamata ad assumere una posizione in merito al rapporto tra teoria e progetto, credo che questo rapporto possa essere saggiato analizzando la figura dell’autore. Ritengo infatti che la domanda più urgente non sia tanto quella relativa alle modalità di costruzione di teoria attraverso il progetto, o di fondazione di un progetto di teoria. Mi pare sia più urgente questionare la costante anamorfosi di un autore che ormai annaspa nel relazionarsi con un sistema di comunicazione divenuto ipertrofico, un autore confuso, stordito da un eccesso di stimoli esterni o in costante stato di allerta, assediato. Per questa ragione, analizzerò la posizione che Michel Foucault espresse nella breve conferenza tenuta nel 1969 al Collège de France, dal titolo "Che cos’è un autore?
