STUDIO DELL'ISOLAMENTO ACUSTICO IN LABORATORIO DI MATERIALI PROVENIENTI DA RICICLO APPLICATI ALLE STRUTTURE EDILIZIE
The acoustic insulation of elements and materials for building construction is becoming more and more important in Italy due to the recent evolutions in the Italian national regulation. This work concerns the experimental studies on sound insulation and reduction of floors and walls, principally using materials made of recycled rubber and synthetic fibrous panels. In particular, impact noise of floors was investigated, taking also into account the mechanical properties of tested materials. The tests were carried out in a new laboratory, built especially for the evaluation of acoustic properties of building elements. The laboratory has an opening, for testing the transmission loss of walls, and two floors: one is a reference concrete slab and the other is a beam and clay block floor with flanking transmission suppression. The steps of the laboratory construction and the procedure adopted for the qualication of sound fields in the rooms are described in this work. The qualication was carried out for transmission loss and impact noise measurements, with
some limitations for the airborne sound insulation of floors. The impact noise of floors was studied considering different issues. The two bare floors acoustic behaviour has been analyzed, pointing out the different sound emission, that is due to the technical characteristics of the building elements. The correlation between impact noise reduction and dynamic stiffness of materials used in floating floors has been studied, in particular as regarding the influence of sample preparation and the choice of the predictive formulas. For some materials, repeated measurements have been carried out, to analyze the influence of the screed aging during impact noise reduction laboratory tests, with the aim of reducing the test waiting time. Impact noise reduction of resilient underfloor heating systems has been investigated: the products have been tested on both laboratory floors to check the influence of the base structure and the evaluation methods; different floor finishings have
also been tested. Furthermore, airborne sound reduction of walls was studied to improve the knowledge of the influence of recycled materials (in particular rubber and synthetic fibrous panels) on the acoustic performance of gypsum and covered brick walls. For some of the samples, the influence of electric equipments was also studied.
Impact Noise Reduction of Underfloor Heating Systems
Underfloor heating systems are becoming very popular in building technology, principally due to advantages related to energy saving and thermal comfort. Even if the materials used for the radiant heating panels are well optimized to achieve necessary thermal insulation, rarely these materials have been designed also for a good impact noise reduction of the floor they are applied to. An experimental analysis was carried out in laboratory according to ISO 10140-1, in order to study the acoustic behaviour of floors with integrated radiant heating systems with a built-in resilient layer for impact noise insulation. These heating systems have been set up both on a beam and clay block floor and concrete slab for the evaluation of impact noise according to ISO 10140-3 and the influence
of the top finishing has also been investigated. Comparison among noise level reduction data of different floors and radiant heating systems are presented and problems related to dynamic stiffness optimization and performance fitting are pointed out
Influence of the Sample Preparation for Dynamic Stiffness Tests on the Calculation of Impact Noise Level Attenuation
The performances of materials used for impact noise insulation can be estimated when dynamic stiffness is known, together with other mechanical properties measured through small samples tests. However, the calculation of impact noise level attenuation from dynamic stiffness data, according to the standards, can be influenced by the testing methodologies adopted, in particular the presence or absence of the gypsum layer between the sample and the steel plate. In this work a comparison between impact noise level attenuation calculated from dynamic stiffness data of different materials and measured in laboratory according to ISO 140-8 is done, in order to check the precision of the theoretical calculation and the influence of different test methodologies
Dry systems for impact noise insulation of floors in laboratory
Dry systems have been successfully used in the last years and the diffusion in the market has grown a lot, especially in floating floor applications. These systems are made of a resilient mat supporting a rigid layer (a single or multiple layer of cement, gypsum, wooden boards, generally reinforced with fibres) and because of the easiness and rapidity of laying they are often preferred to traditional massive cement-based floating screeds. This work has the aim of investigating the impact sound
insulation performance of some solutions based on products typically found in the traditional screed market, comparing the two different applications: dry and wet. The products have been evaluated in laboratory, using two different base floors, one standardized concrete slab and a beam and hollow block floor and with experimental approach also the influence of the load conditions of the floating floor has been evaluated
Experimental Analysis of the Different Behavior of Materials for Impact Sound Insulation in Buildings in Relation to the Kind of Base Floor: a Comparison Among Laboratory Measurements on a Concrete Slab and on a Hollow Brick and Concrete Bare Floor
Materials for impact noise insulation are tested according to the standards ISO 140-8 and ISO 717-2 with laboratory measurements of impact noise level attenuation on a concrete slab. However, the behavior of such materials can be different when applied on non-homogeneous floors. In this work have been reported some data of impact noise level attenuation measured in laboratory on a concrete slab and on a hollow brick and concrete bare floor, built with the same junction typology and with no flanking transmission, to evaluate the difference of the same materials applied to different structures
Laboratory evaluation of impact noise insulation of dry systems for floating floors
The evaluation of the insulation properties of dry systems for impact noise reduction is usually performed in laboratory, according to ISO 10140 standard. The use of dry systems made by panels consisting of mineralised spruce wood-wool bound with Portland cement combined with recycled rubber is a good solution for improving acoustic performance of floors. This kind of dry systems is very interesting not only from the acoustic point of view, but also for environmental sustainability. In fact both materials derive from recycled elements or from ecological and bio-compatible production cycles. The aim of this work is the evaluation of dry floating floors made of a combination of different resilient sub-layers loaded by rigid heavy panels, with a focus on the test conditions and sample setup. The configurations that were chosen of these different layers starting from feedback of dynamic stiffness, rated according to EN 29052-1 standard. The results were then compared with the estimated assessment of the acoustic performance proposed by EN 12354-2 standard
