Studying in Greece the demography of small towns whose population was comprised between 5.000 and 10.000 inhabitants puts in light a relative expansion during the period 1830-1912. However, their agricultural specificity was strenghtly marked. This appears about migrations : the pushing effect resulting of the dried grapes boom was followed by an inverse movement, a part of the new populations going back to the country. Occupational study shows the same specificity: agriculture occupations kept the first place inside a society whose élites were partly composed with lawyers often performing no real activity
THE TRIAL OF KARAISKAKIS. AN ATTEMPT AT A RE-APPROACH
-The study, based mainly on the testimony of N. Kasomoulis and the archive of Al. Mavrokordatοs and of course in what, and some are important, have been written about the conflict between Al. Mavrocordatos and Karaiskakis, attempts to formulate some additional hypothesis for the trial of the warlord. It tries to ascertain how they both saw the way to deal with the enemy and in general what the new institutions imposed by the Revolution meant for them. It attempts also to show how they interpreted differently what constituted treason in contacts with the enemy. The tough attitude that Mavrocordatos maintained, accepting accusations that were not proven, seems to have been dictated by the need to set a strong example that the Administration and its representative in the Western Greece were no longer willing to tolerate actions and attitudes that prevented the implementation of the new way of organization of the provinces, where the military leaders would depend for salary and action on the political power. The trial accelerated Karaiskakis' adaptation to revolutionary institutions, but Mavrocordatos maintained strong reservations about his actual conversion

TYPOGRAPHY AND PRINTERS IN GREECE AND CYPRUS: TRACING SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES
Δεν διατίθεται περίληψη στα ελληνικάThe aim of this article is to trace and compare some similarities and differences between Greece and Cyprus in the field of typography and its actors. The research was heavily based on the archives of the Pan-Cypriot Workers' Federation (PEO). Much also was gained from oral interviews with printers, employers, newspaper managers, booksellers, publishers, etc. The most striking difference lays in the fact that in Cyprus the workers in the publication of newspapers did not form a separate group with their own union, as it happened in Greece, but joined the same trade unions as the other printing press workers. Additionally in Cyprus the Government Printing Office, until at least 1960, seems to have born more weight in printing events compared to the National Printing Office in Athens. In the field of printing employers, from the interviews we conducted and the other data that have been published or detected in the surviving archives, we can outline many similarities and differences concerning their strategy towards the challenge of modernization, the fluctuations in demand for publishing goods, the claims and strikes of the workers. Finally, few general remarks were made on the production and circulation of the publications in Cyprus
