Le regole processuali dell'accertamento probatorio. Il dibattito contemporaneo al vaglio di un testo tommasiano
This essay deals with some procedural issues related
to the forensic pursuance of truth, especially
the latest law trends about the judge’s powers of
investigation and the prohibition of judge’s personal knowledge. In the second part the author
shows how the same problems are considered and
solved in an article of Aquinas’ Summa Theologiae
Decomposition of homogeneous vector fields of degree one and representation of the flow
Summary:
The paper gives a decomposition theorem for the elements of the nonsemisimple Lie algebra of the vector fields on that are homogeneous of degree one with respect to a dilation Each is proved to be equal to with and linear semisimple. As a consequence, the author proves that "in absence of esonance" the vector field is equivalent to its linear part. Finally, the above results are applied to obtain a representation formula for the trajectories of a vector field and those of the affine control system with constant of minimum degree
Homogeneous Tangent Vectors and High Order Necessary Conditions for Optimal Controls
Summary:
The author introduces and analyzes "homogeneous" tangent vectors which provide high-order approximations to the attainable set for an affine control system of the form . Homogeneous tangent vectors are defined relative to one-parameter families of dilations on . Adjoint equations associated with the corresponding homogeneous variational equation are derived and used to transport homogeneous tangent vectors along the flow of a reference trajectory. These constructions are then used to derive a homogeneous high-order test for optimality of control problems in Mayer form without terminal constraints. Essentially, it is shown that if is a homogeneous tangent vector with respect to a dilation generated by a control variation, then it is a necessary condition for optimality that , where denotes the solution of the corresponding homogeneous adjoint equation
Ancona Leonardo. Homework Open-Source Platform (HOP) to test the students' knowledge in Electromagnetics
An Open-source platform for homework assignment and correction is presented and discussed. The platform was used during the academic course in Fundamentals of Electromagnetics at the Università Politecnica delle Marche, Ancona, Italy. Statistics on the marks obtained by the students showhed that the homework undoubtedly enhanced the students' knowledge
Incremental Rebinding with Name Polymorphism
AbstractWe propose an extension with name variables of a calculus for incremental rebinding of code introduced in previous work. Names, which can be either constants or variables, are used as interface of fragments of code with free variables. Open code can be dynamically rebound by applying a rebinding, which is an association from names to terms. Rebinding is incremental, since rebindings can contain free variables as well, and can be manipulated by operators such as overriding and renaming. By using name variables, it is possible to write terms which are parametric in their nominal interface and/or in the way it is adapted, greatly enhancing expressivity. The type system is correspondingly extended by constrained name-polymorphic types, where simple inequality constraints prevent conflicts among parametric name interfaces
Measuring randomness by leave-one-out prediction error. Analysis of EEG after painful stimulation
A parametric approach, to measure randomness in time series, is presented. Time series are modelled by a kernel
machine performing regularized least squares and the leave-one-out (LOO) error is used to quantify unpredictability. On
analyzing simulated data sets, we find that structure in data leads to a minimum of the LOO error as the regularizing
parameter is varied. We consider electroencephalographic signals from migraineurs and healthy humans, after painful
stimulation and use the proposed approach to detect changes of physiological state and to find differences between the
response from patients and healthy subjects. As painful stimulus causes organization of the local activity in the cortex,
EEG series become more predictable after stimulation. This phenomenon is less evident in patients: the inadequate cortical
response to pain in migraineurs separates patients from controls with a probability close to 0,005.
the arterial blood pressure signal more regular and thus more predictable, is
less effective in patients, and this effect correlates with the seriousness of the
heart failure. Using a Gaussian kernel, so that all orders of nonlinearity are
taken into account, the leave-one-out error separates controls from patients
(probability less than 10−7), and alive patients from patients for whom cardiac
death occurred (probability less than 0.01)
