Method for Heterogeneous Sample Analysis on LCMS Without Sample Manipulation
We describe a simple, effective, and
automated method that tolerates heterogeneous sample analysis on liquid
chromatography mass spectrometer (LCMS) systems without any sample
manipulation. This was developed to mitigate the inconsistent sample
preparations that often arise when LCMS systems are operated in a self-service
mode (walkup or open access), such as in a pharmaceutical research environment.
We demonstrated the robustness of our method
through 144 sequential injections of a heterogeneous sample on the LCMS without
observing clogging or an increase in the system pressure, whereas with a
conventional set-up, the same sample resulted in an almost instantaneous clog.
Analysis of carefully tracked metrics for six walkup LCMS over 3 years since
the rollout of this method at our facility has shown > 95%
sustained reduction in clogging rate, accompanied by over a 30-fold
increase in operational robustness, all with no impact on the quality of the
chromatography. Implementation has further lead to savings in time and
resources for both the system administrators and users, hence making walk-up
LCMS easier to use yet harder to break, with the additional benefit of
providing data for heterogeneous samples available to the user, and reducing
sample carry-over. The method is inexpensive to implement and requires neither
expensive hardware such as pumps or valves, nor any changes to existing LCMS
methods.</p
LCMS-DNP based dereplication of Araucaria cunninghamii Mudie gum-resin: identification of new cytotoxic labdane diterpene
As a part of natural defense, plants initiate the secretion of gum containing numerous pharmacologically active essential metabolites. A fraction of such gum-resin from Araucaria cunninghamii Mudie, when screened against human cancer cell lines, was found to be active. Further, it was subjected to an LCMS-DNP (Dictionary of Natural Products) based dereplication study followed by a detailed phytochemical investigation to obtain pure metabolites. Also, the gum resin of A. cunninghamii was found to be a rich source of abietanes and labdanes. The LCMS-DNP-based dereplication study identified many known metabolites, which were isolated for the first time from this plant as well as a new labdane diterpenoid (9). The compounds were characterized via spectroscopic techniques, which were subsequently compared with the already existing literature data. The metabolites were screened against seven human cancer cell lines. The anticancer activity was further supported by molecular docking studies.</p

Characteristics of a sustainable Learning and Content Management System (LCMS)
AbstractThis presentation along with associated paper focuses on characteristics of sustainable learning and content management systems (LCMS). It has three folds. The first one provides a list of characteristics for a sustainable LCMS that are compiled as a result of critical literature review as well as personal experiences of the author. The second intends to reveal the results of an evaluation study in which above characteristics were used to examine available LMS and/or LCMS systems in Turkey. The third fold consists of another list for decisions makers in corporate and educational institutions about what to consider while selecting a LCMS. There is quite a big body of literature regarding characteristics of LCMS in the field. However, the majority of them are context dependent and/or do not reflect the needs of other contexts such as those in which distance education is more than a convenience. So, a dozen of this literature has been critically analyzed and common characteristics were compiled. Later, these common characteristics revised according to needs of those contexts where distance education is a necessity and the list of characteristics of a sustainable LCMS is finalized. Moreover, these characteristics were used to create a rubric to be able to evaluate the common LCMS used in Turkey. The results, a list of recommendations are prepared to help the decision makers in the corporate and educational institutions choose the sustainable LCMS for their e-learning initiatives. This presentation might especially be beneficial for especially those audiences who are considering adopting a LCMS for their institutions and those researchers who are interested in management of e-learning initiatives

University Students Awareness of LMS and LCMS
Technology revolution has taken a great impact and profoundly influenced in higher education worldwide. Educational institutes positively invested to the internet and technology infrastructures as a tool to enhance teaching and learning program. Learning Management System (LMS) and Learning Content Management System (LCMS) are two types of educational tool used for learning purpose. Generally, LMS and LCMS have several similarities and benefits. Thus, this study aims to investigate the functions differences of LMS and LCMS. Furthermore, the study offers students awareness towards the usage of LCMS. The LMS and LCMS literature are reviewed to understand the functional criterions and benefits. Later, the both systems are compared. A total of 40 students from Universiti Utara Malaysia were identified to study the awareness of LCMS. The study reveals the students known the existence and the availabilities of LCMS to them
