Fixed Point Implementation of Kalman Filtering for AC Drives: a Case Study Using TMS320F24x DSP
Fixed point implementation of Kalman filtering for AC drives: a case study using TMS320F24x DSP
The real-time digital implementation of the Kalman filter requires a very fast signal processor specialised and optimised to perform complex mathematical calculations and manipulate a large amount of data. In fact, the algorithm is computationally intensive, and all of the steps involved require vector and/or matrix operation. In this paper the analysis of an actual fixed point implementation of the Kalman filter is discussed based on a last generation μC DSP (TMS320F240). The considered case study refers to rotor speed and position estimation in AC drives when using low resolution position transducers. It is shown that the adopted processor is suitable for an efficient and relatively simple implementation of the filter allowing to increase the resolution in speed calculation with respect to the classical differentiation solution
Anemia emolitica autoimmune sviluppata durante il trattamento di epatite cronica C con interferone-alfa
Autoimmune hemolytic anemia has been rarely described in patients with chronic hepatitis C during interferon-alpha therapy. We report a case of Coombs-positive autoimmune hemolytic anemia, occurring 9 months after the onset of monotherapy with interferon-alpha-2b (3 million units thrice in week) for chronic hepatitis C. Interferon withdrawal and prednisone treatment induced a complete remission of hematological findings after 3 months. During a follow-up period of 30 months after cessation of interferon, hemoglobin levels stabilized about 16 g/dL, and the indirect Coombs test turned negative, while the direct Coombs test remained weakly positive; besides, serum alanine aminotransferase values were normal and hepatitis C virus-RNA remained undetectable. In our patient, clinical and laboratory findings suggested a correlation between autoimmune side effects of interferon-alpha and autoimmune hemolytic anemia
Anthropogenic Impacts on the Microbial Ecology and Function of Aquatic Environments
Aquatic ecosystems are currently experiencing unprecedented levels of impact from human activities including over-exploitation of resources, habitat destruction, pollution and the influence of climate change. The impacts of these activities on the microbial ecology of aquatic environments are only now beginning to be defined. One of the many implications of environmental degradation and climate change is the geographical expansion of disease- causing microbes such as those from the Vibrio genus. Elevating sea surface temperatures correlate with increasing Vibrio numbers and disease in marine animals (e.g. corals) and humans. Contamination of aquatic environments with heavy metals and other pollutants affects microbial ecology with downstream effects on biogeochemical cycles and nutrient turnover. Also of importance is the pollution of aquatic environments with antibiotics, resistance genes and the mobile genetic elements that house resistance genes from human and animal waste. Such contaminated environments act as a source of resistance genes long after an antibiotic has ceased being used in the community. Environments contaminated with mobile genetic elements that are adapted to human commensals and pathogens function to capture new resistance genes for potential reintroduction back into clinical environments. This research topic encompasses these diverse topics and describes the affect(s) of human activity on the microbial ecology and function in aquatic environments and, describes methods of restoration and for modelling disturbances
