At the University of Arkansas he was a Forest Pathologist conducting fundamental research on forest tree diseases and the nuclear behavior of plant pathogens. He conducted pioneering research on the use of plant pathogens as bioherbicides and was awarded the Arkansas Alumni's highest honor for Teaching and Research
