Comparative Study on "SOREKARA" of Natsume Souseki and "JAE-SAENG" of Lee Kwang-Su : Focusing on 'Civilization'
There are lots of comparative studies of Natsume Souseki and Luxun in Japan. At the same time in Korea, comparative studies of Lee Kwang-Su and Luxun are made frequently. But it's difficult to find a comparative study of Natsume Souseki and Lee Kwang-Su in Korea or Japan. In spite of the differences in modernization progress in their countries, being Japan, Korea and China, respectively, Natsume Souseki, Lee Kwang-Su and Luxun, have many common features at that time. They are all representative writers who were afflicted in their modern ages. For that reason, a comparative study between Natsume Souseki and Lee Kwang-Su is essential. Therefore this study pays attention to the progress of 'civilization' in the two countries, Japan and Korea, through"SOREKARA" (a sequel of "SANSHIROU") by Natsume Souseki, and "JAE-SAENG" (a sequel of "MU-JEONG") by Lee Kwang-su
An elastoplastic multi-level damage model for ductile matrix composites considering evolutionary weakened interface
AbstractAn elastoplastic multi-level damage model considering evolutionary weakened interface is developed in this work to predict the effective elastoplastic behavior and multi-level damage evolution in particle reinforced ductile matrix composites (PRDMCs). The elastoplastic multi-level damage model is micromechanically derived on the basis of the ensemble-volume averaging procedure and the first-order effects of eigenstrains. The Eshelby’s tensor for an ellipsoidal inclusion with slightly weakened interface [Qu, J., 1993a. Eshelby tensor for an elastic inclusion with slightly weakened interfaces. Journal of Applied Mechanics 60 (4), 1048–1050; Qu, J., 1993b. The effect of slightly weakened interfaces on the overall elastic properties of composite materials. Mechanics of Materials, 14, 269–281] is adopted to model particles having mildly or severely weakened interface, and a multi-level damage model [Lee, H.K., Pyo, S.H., in press. Multi-level modeling of effective elastic behavior and progressive weakened interface in particulate composites. Composites Science and Technology] in accordance with the Weibull’s probabilistic function is employed to describe the sequential, progressive weakened interface in the composites. Numerical examples corresponding to uniaxial, biaxial and triaxial tension loadings are solved to illustrate the potential of the proposed micromechanical framework. A series of parametric analysis are carried out to investigate the influence of model parameters on the progression of weakened interface in the composites. Furthermore, the present prediction is compared with available experimental data in the literature to verify the proposed elastoplastic multi-level damage model
Comparative Study on "Sanshirō" by Natsume Sōseki and "Mu-Jeong" by Lee Kwang-Su : Focusing on Civilization
There are numerous comparative studies of Natsume Sōseki (1867~1916) and Luxun (1881~1936) in Japan. At the same time in Korea, comparative studies of Lee Kwang-Su (1892~?) and Luxun are made frequently. But it is difficult to find a comparative study of Natsume Soseki and Lee Kwang-Su in Korea or Japan. In spite of the differences in modernization in their countries, Japan, Korea and China, respectively, Natsume Soseki, Lee Kwang-Su and Luxun have many common features. They were all representative writers who suffered because of modernization. For that reason, a comparative study between Natsume Soseki and Lee Kwang-Su is essential. This study takes into consideration the progress of civilization in the two countries, Japan and Korea, through "Sanshirō" (1908) by Natsume Sōseki, and "Mu-Jeong" (1917) by Lee Kwang-Su. Natsume Sōseki described the modernization of Japan through the eye of an erratic young man, Sanshirō in "Sanshirō"and Lee Kwang-Su depicted the modernization of Korea through the eye of Lee Hyung-Sik, who wavers between tradition and modernization in "Mu-Jeong". It can be said that the modernization and civilization of these two countries are described by the life of the young main character in both works. Both writers, as intellectuals, were afflicted in the conflict between tradition and modernization in their countries. The two countries had different historical backgrounds and took different paths to modernization. At that time Korea was a colony of Japan and Japan took the path of imperialism. This study analyzes the differences of modernization between Japan and Korea as reflected in "Sanshirō"and "Mu-Jeong"
Nucleoredoxin promotes adipogenic differentiation through regulation of Wnt/beta-catenin signaling
Nucleoredoxin (NRX) is a member of the thioredoxin family of proteins that controls redox homeostasis in cell. Redox homeostasis is a well-known regulator of cell differentiation into various tissue types. We found that NRX expression levels were higher in white adipose tissue of obese ob/ob mice and increased in the early adipogenic stage of 3T3-L1 preadipocyte differentiation. Knockdown of NRX decreased differentiation of 3T3-L1 cells, whereas overexpression increased differentiation. Adipose tissuespecifi c NRX transgenic mice showed increases in adipocyte size as well as number compared with WT mice. We further confi rmed that the Wingless/int-1 class (Wnt) /β -catenin pathway was also involved in NRX-promoted adipogenesis, consistent with a previous report showing NRX regulation of this pathway. Genes involved in lipid metabolism were downregulated, whereas inflammatory genes, including those encoding macrophage markers, were signifi cantly upregulated, likely contributing to the obesity in Adipo-NRX mice. Our results therefore suggest that NRX acts as a novel proadipogenic factor and controls obesity in vivo. - Bahn, Y. J., K-P. Lee, S-M. Lee, J. Y. Choi, Y-S. Seo, and K-S. Kwon. microRNA for determining the age-related myogenic capabilities of skeletal muscle
Skeletal muscle exhibits a loss of muscle mass and function with age. Decreased regenerative potential of muscle stem/ progenitor cells is a major underlying cause of sarcopenia. We analyzed microRNAs (miRNA) that are differentially expressed in young and old myoblasts, to identify novel intrinsic factors that play a degenerative role in aged skeletal muscle. miR-431, one of decreasing miRNAs in old myoblasts, improved the myogenic differentiation when overexpressed in old myoblast, but suppressed their myogenic capability in knockdowned young myoblasts. We found that miR-431 directly binds to 3' untranslated regions (UTR) of Smad4 mRNA, and decreases its expression. Given that SMAD4 is one of the downstream effectors of TGF-β, a well-known degenerative signaling pathway in myogenesis, the decreased miR-431 in old myoblast causes SMAD4 elevation, thus resulting in defective myogenesis. Exogenous expression of miR-431 greatly improved the muscle regeneration in the cardiotoxin-injured hindlimb muscle of old mice by reducing SMAD4 levels. Since the miR-431 seed sequence is conserved in human SMAD4 3'UTR, miR-431 regulates the myogenic capacity of human skeletal myoblasts in the same manner. Our results suggest that age-associated miR-431 is required for the maintenance of the myogenic capability in myoblasts, thus underscoring its potential as a therapeutic target to slow down muscle aging.open

Cultural Dimensions in User Preferences and Behaviors of Mobile Phones and Interpretation of National Cultural Differences
The purpose of this study is to identify the differences in user behaviors and cultural tendencies which will develop a cultural evaluation frame work for mobile phone design among countries in the mobile telecommunication market. Cultural taxonomy helps the understanding of cultural differences. To help understand the Asian market more clearly, a brief overview of Geert Hofstede's findings (Individualism, Uncertainty avoidance, Power distance, Masculinity, and Long-term orientation) and the K.P. Lee's Cultural Variables (Way of Task Handling, Temporal Perception, Conception of Nature, Adherence to rules, Relationship with Human, Nature of Human Activity, Message Contexting, and Expression of Emotion) for the index of different cultures was used in this study. This research is based on an online survey in three countries (Korea, China and Japan), summarizing the responses of questionnaire about user preferences, and behavioral perceptions of UI Design of mobile phones. The result of this research identified the differences and similarities among countries clearly, reorganized the cultural variables. After comparing values of author's value from online survey and two other variables, this study found that Hofstede's and KP Lee's are very meaningful to identify cultural-based national characteristics. This verifies that differences of usage behavior and preference for mobile phone reflect cultural perspectives. This cultural research is the key to understanding these needs and to providing the companies with advanced market positioning. This study should not stop at a simple cross-national comparison but be a cultural comparison framework for giving companies a clear future direction for globalization-based design development. © 2009 Springer Berlin Heidelberg.N
