Preconception malnutrition among women and girls in south Asia: prevalence, determinants, and association with pregnancy and birth outcomes
Summary: This review highlights the growing double burden of malnutrition among women of reproductive age in South Asia. Using nationally-representative survey data, we highlight that the prevalence of overweight now exceeds that of underweight, while anaemia remains persistently high despite intervention efforts. Underweight and anaemia are more common among unmarried women, whereas overweight is more prevalent among parous women, underscoring the need for life-stage-specific preconception nutrition programs. In our systematic review, micronutrient deficiencies vary widely between and within countries, reflecting regional disparities in nutritional status and inconsistencies in diagnostic methods. Associations of preconception underweight, overweight, anaemia and micronutrient deficiencies with health, nutrition, socio-demographic, and WASH indicators are mixed, emphasising the need for tailored, context-specific interventions. The lack of longitudinal studies limits our understanding of associations between preconception nutritional status and subsequent birth outcomes, underscoring the need for comprehensive, longitudinal studies across South Asia to inform and monitor targeted nutrition programs

Carcinoid tumour of appendix in a child: A rare case at an uncommon site
Carcinoid tumours of the appendix are uncommon incidentally detected tumours during histopathological examination following appendicectomy for acute appendicitis. Even though considered rare in children, they are the most frequently encountered tumours of the gastrointestinal tract. To our knowledge, carcinoid tumour of appendix in childhood has not yet been reported from Indian Subcontinent. The clinical presentation is similar to acute appendicitis and the signs and symptoms of carcinoid syndrome have not been reported in children. The prognosis of carcinoid tumour of appendix is excellent in children as the tumour is generally small in size and less aggressive with no metastasis. Simple appendicectomy is curative in most of the patients and long term follow up is debatable. We present here a case of carcinoid tumour of the body of appendix, which is an uncommon location in a 6-year-old child
Impact of Teaching Conversation Skills to a Child with Autism at a Therapy Center in Dubai – Case Study.
Conversational deficiencies are frequently seen in people with developmental disorders, such as autism spectrum disorder. To teach conversational skills, we employed behavioral skill training. We planned for generalization in the untrained home context with peers and utilized a script-fading package to educate a child with autism to begin social contact across varied activities in the school setting. It was noted that social initiations gradually rose once the script-fading package was introduced. Also, the impacts of the script-fading package extended to peers, parents, caregivers, and an unskilled home environment. By illustrating the transfer of social initiations from the school context with peers to the home environment with siblings, this study builds on earlier studies. This study examines how conversation skills can be taught using scripts and fading the same. The researcher conducted the study with the help of questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, and direct observation. The script fading technique helped to increase conversation and social skills, however, the generalization of these skills was not attained
