India and Pakistan: From transitional to network societies?
Keval J. Kumar looks at the development transitions taking place in Pakistan and India within the framework of ‘network societies’. He suggests there are different levels of society among rural areas, the small towns and cities and the highly industrialized and populated cities and metros. For him it is only the last who are part of the global ‘network society’, raising worrying questions about deep national divisions, particularly in view of the geo-political pressures post-September 11th, 2001. From a story of disaster to a story of victory. Chinese Media Reports in the Covid-19 Crisis
This chapter conducts a qualitative analysis of the representation of the COVID-19 crisis by Chinese media. We selected two representatives -- Caixin, a well-respected market-newspaper known for its investigative journalism, and CCTV, an official organ of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). By examining similarities and differences in the two media outlets’ coverage, this research points out the freedom and limits of market-media in crisis reports and the technics through which official media carved out a “story of victory” from the COVD-19 tragedy. In doing so, it provides insights into media management in the Xi era
Media Narratives and the COVID-19 Pandemic
This volume investigates mediated lives and media narratives during the Covid-19 pandemic, with Asia as a focus point. It shows how the pandemic has created an unprecedented situation in this globalized world marked by many disruptions in the social, economic, political, and cultural lives of individuals and communities— creating a ‘new normal’. It explores the different media vocabularies of fear, panic, social distancing, and contagion from across Asian nations. It focuses on the role media played as most nations faced lockdowns and unique challenges during the crisis. From healthcare workers to sex workers, from racism to nationalism, from the plight of migrant workers in news reporting to state propaganda, this book brings critical questions confronting media professionals into focus.
The volume is of critical interest to scholars and researchers of media and communication studies, politics, especially political communication, social and public policy, and Asian studies
Strong decay analysis of excited nonstrange charmed mesons: implications for spectroscopy
The strong decays of experimentally observed excited nonstrange charmed mesons are analyzed in the framework of heavy quark effective theory (HQET). The ratio of the strong decay rates identified the doublets as , as and as . The is interpreted as the mixing of states. The resonances and are identified with and quantum states, respectively. Such states allows to construct the Regge trajectories in and planes. We fix the slope and the intercept of each Regge line and estimate the masses of higher excited nonstrange charmed mesons which are lying on the Regge lines. Also, the ratios of the strong decay rates of this higher excited nonstrange charmed mesons are calculated. It can provide valuable information to future experimental search
