Intimacy Unguarded: Chris Kraus
No full textThe Central Saint Martins research project 'Intimacy Unguarded', run by Emma Talbot and Dr Jo Morra, hosted a visit to Central Saint Martins by United States author Chris Kraus. Kraus is a highly respected writer (I Love Dick, Summer of Hate, Aliens and Anorexia etc) and editor of the semi-texte series 'Native Agents'. In this event, Kraus gave a reading from 'I Love Dick' and was then interviewed by Emma Talbot, to a live public audience.
'Intimacy Unguarded' also ran a seminar called 'Write A Letter To Chris Kraus'. Mirroring the format for the celebrated book 'I Love Dick', in which Kraus uses the letter as a way of addressing a particular figure (with whom she is obsessed) whilst simultaneously unpacking her own personal thoughts and research, participants were invited to 'Write a Letter To Chris Kraus'.
Chris Kraus was present at the seminar, where letters were read aloud and Kraus was the first respondent. Those taking part were from Raven Row, CSM BAFA, MAFA and Afterall. An excerpt from Kraus's book and a selection of the letters will be published in the June 2017n issue of Journal of Visual Art Practice, to be guest-edited by Talbot and Morra

No full textDie vorliegende Arbeit hat das Ziel das Verhältnis zwischen dem Kritiker Karl Kraus und der Erscheinung des Antisemitismus zu erforschen. Es wird anhand des Lebens von Kraus, natürlich mit Hilfe seiner Werke oder besser gesagt einige Repräsentanten seiner Schriften: „Eine Krone für Zion“ und „Heine und die Folgen“, dargestellt. Im Zweiten Kapitel geht es um den Antisemitismus. Dann werden die antisemitische Einflüsse auf Kraus untersucht, Nietzsche und Wagner als eventuelle Vorläufer dieser Erscheinung. Im dritten Kapitel wird das Judentum als soziales Umfeld in Wien untersucht. Der Roman „Die Stadt ohne Juden“ von Hugo Bettauer wird erwähnt. Im vierten Kapitel geht es um den Antisemitismus in Wien und charakterisiert den Übergang zwischen kulturellen und rassistischen Antisemitismus. John Kraus
No full textJohn Kraus is a spaceflight photographer and Space Coast native. Growing up watching space shuttle and rocket launches from home, Kraus gained a new appreciation for spaceflight in early 2015 when he first picked up a camera during his freshman year of high school. As launch photography turned from a passive interest in documenting unique local events to an obsession in sharing the wonders of spaceflight, Kraus became a credentialed photojournalist under space media outlet AmericaSpace in 2016, granting him up-close access to create stunning imagery at Cape Canaveral’s launch facilities. In the time since, Kraus has continued working as a freelance photographer, having been published and featured by Bloomberg Businessweek, Aviation Week, United Launch Alliance, SpaceX’s Elon Musk, CNBC, National Geographic, and more.
