No AbstractThe author’s attention has been drawn to the existence of this historicalevidence in the National Archives of Vienna, by his friend the writer EteoclesGregoriadis together with the numbers of the relevant files. Most of the documents were written in the old German script. Thus the author asked for the help of his friend and former colleague at the University of Thessaloniki and director of the Goethe Institute, Graf Kurt v. Posadowsky, for reading andstudying those documents. Without his help this study would have been impossible. This new evidence concerns the sojourn of Anastasios Papas·—son of Emmanuel Papas, leading figure of the Greek Revolution—in Austria andGermany between the 3rd January and 11th March 1822. There is informationabout his short imprisonment in Trieste, after his arival from Vienna. He then visits various towns in Germany and after negotiations with the Philhellene professor Fr. Thiersch in Munich, he purchases large quantities of ammunition to be despatched to Greece. He finally arrives in Greece early in 1824, and takes part—together with his three brothers who were already fighting—in the struggle for the liberation of the common great fartheland
Distributed IDA-PBC for Nonholonomic Mechanical Systems
Nonholonomic mechanical systems encompass a large class of practically interesting robotic structures, such as wheeled mobile robots, space manipulators, and multi-fingered robot hands. However, few results exist on the cooperative control of such systems in a generic, distributed approach. In this work we extend a recently developed distributed \ac{IDA-PBC} method to such systems. More specifically, relying on port-Hamiltonian system modelling for networks of mechanical systems, we propose a full-state stabilization control law for a class of nonholonomic systems within the framework of distributed \ac{IDA-PBC}. This enables the cooperative control of heterogeneous, underactuated and nonholonomic systems with a unified control law. This control law primarily relies on the notion of Passive Configuration Decomposition and a novel, non-smooth control law proposed here. A low-level collision avoidance protocol based on the \ac{APF} method is also implemented in order to achieve dynamic inter-agent collision avoidance, enhancing the practical relevance of this work. Multiple sets of solutions for harmonic elimination PWM bipolar waveforms: Analysis and experimental verification
Multiple sets of solutions for the selective harmonic elimination pulse-width modulation method for inverter control exist. These sets present an independent solution to the same problem but further investigation reveals that certain sets may offer an improved overall harmonic performance. In this paper, a minimization method is discussed as a way to obtain these multiple sets of switching angles. A simple distortion harmonic factor that takes into account the first two most significant harmonics present in the generated waveform is considered in order to evaluate the performance of each set. The bipolar waveform is thoroughly analyzed and two cases are considered; single-phase patterns which eliminate all odd harmonics and three-phase counterparts which eliminate only the nontriplen odd harmonics from the line-to-neutral pattern but such harmonics are naturally eliminated from the line-to-line waveform. Experimental results support the theoretical considerations reported in the paper
Bilateral ankle oedema in a patient taking escitalopram
Escitalopram (ESC) is the S-isomer of the racemic compound citalopram, and has been shown to be an efficacious treatment for major depressive disorder. Several studies or case reports are available describing its side effects, none of which however refer to its potential to induce ankle oedema. We report the case of a 69-year-old female depressed patient who, after approximately 1 month of therapy with ESC, progressively titrated up to 30 mg/day, developed a bilateral ankle oedema, which resolved completely within the first week following its discontinuation
Remission of migraine attacks in a patient with depression who is taking pregabalin
Antiepileptic drugs (AED) are increasingly used in the treatment of migraine. Pregabalin (PGB) is an AED that has been used in the treatment of partial seizures, of various types of pain, and of certain anxiety disorders, but to the best of our knowledge, there has been no report on the use of PGB in the treatment of migraine. We report the case of a 60-year-old female inpatient with depression, long experiencing migraine, whose migraine symptoms improved markedly after receiving PGB in combination with escitalopram administered for her depression. The PGB mechanism of action in conjunction with its structural similarity with gabapentin, already successfully tested in the treatment of migraine, provide additional supportive evidence, theoretical and clinical, respectively, for PGB potential to alleviate migraine symptoms. However, only carefully randomized, controlled studies, or at the very least, open-label series of large patient samples treated in a similar fashion could establish the efficacy of PGB in migraine treatment
Reversible Tremor and Myoclonus Associated With Topiramate-Fluvoxamine Coadministration
The antiepileptic agent topiramate has proved its efficacy in a variety of other conditions as well, including several kinds of tremor and migraine prophylaxis. We report on the case of a 42-yearold depressive female patient with comorbid migraine attacks, whereby the adjunction of topiramate as an antimigraine agent at the dosage of 50 mg/d to her antidepressive treatment with fluvoxamine at 300 mg/d triggered-the prima facie paradoxical for topiramate-side effects of tremor and myoclonus. Topiramate was immediately discontinued, and patient’s abnormal movements subsided completely within 24 to 72 hours. Topiramate was possibly the cause of patient’s abnormal movements enhanced by fluvoxamine’s potential to induce also tremor and mynclonus. Therefore, clinicians should be aware of the potentially severe adverse reactions that might occur during concomitant treatment with fluvoxamine and topiramate
