The aim of this software application is to define virtual enterprise as the optimal combination of supply chain members
Software development for performance measurement evaluation of road transport activity
Key performance indicators (KPI) are frequently used in general business to evaluate the success of the entire enterprise. KPIs play a key role in helping an organization to define and measure its progress towards the defined goals. Structure of logistics indicators should be defined which can be used for evaluation of the transport activity of a forwarding company. Evaluation of logistics indicators relating to forwarding activity can provide useful information because the analysis of historic data provides a real view of the company activity. If we can measure the performance of processes, we can improve it in the future. The goal of this study is the performance measurement of road transport activity. At first we elaborated the structure of transport indicators/time utilization, transport way utilization, weight of transported freight, fuel usage relating to vehicles and transport trips/which are our own results. This research is absolutely original and unique, especially that based on the elaborated structure of transport indicators, an evaluation software was developed which will be also introduced in this paper. This software was implemented successfully at a forwarding company

Globally, the promotion of entrepreneurship is considered vital for improved and sustained economic growth. Although the importance of entrepreneurship has been emphasised, there are still many gaps in this research field. One of these gaps includes cross-country comparisons between women entrepreneurs. The purpose of this study was to identity the most important characteristics that these entrepreneurs felt they needed to have as part of running their businesses. A cross country analysis was done between South African and Polish woman entrepreneurs. Eighteen characteristics were identified and results were refined to the ones deemed most important by participants. The results of this study indicated that Polish and South African women entrepreneurs have different perceptions of the characteristics they consider most important in running their businesses. A better understanding of the differences or similarities women entrepreneurs from different countries exhibit towards various entrepreneurial topics, could assist with development and growth of this research field
The relationship between economic growth and economic development: a regional assessment in South Africa
The concepts of economic development and economic growth differ significantly, but are in some instances used as interchangeable notions. It is important for policy formulators and decision makers to understand the relationship between the two. Development strategies should be formulated to achieve sustainable inclusive economic growth and economic development. These two economic concepts influence each other; however, there is limited clarity on the relationship. The aim of the study was to determine the relationship between these in the Vaal Triangle region, South Africa. Economic development is a broad concept and various methods can be used to measure it. For the purpose of this research, an economic development index was developed, which consists of employment, poverty levels and human development index (HDI). This index assists in the measurement of the relationship between economic development and economic growth. A time series econometric model was used to measure the relationship between the two variables. The results indicated that economic development causes economic growth in the long and short run. Therefore, it is important to focus on economic development, through improved HDI, increased employment and poverty alleviation, in order to achieve inclusive economic growth
Best practice principles for business incubators: a comparison between South Africa and the Netherlands
Many researchers and industry leaders have identified business incubators as an alternative method to develop entrepreneurship and support small businesses. Incubators facilitate the success of a large number of start-ups and firms who, in turn, add value and growth to the economy. Eight factors that could influence the performance and success of incubators were identified in the literature. These factors include aspects such as management, infrastructure, networks and partnerships, mentoring, skills development and funding. The study followed a qualitative approach. Six incubator managers from South Africa (a developing country) and the Netherlands (a developed country) respectively, were interviewed to determine their views on factors for success. Incubators for small business development have been used for decades in the Netherlands but this process has only recently been introduced in South Africa. Despite this historical difference, incubator managers agree on most aspects, especially regarding the importance of networking, structured management, mentorship and training at incubators. The focus and funding factors of the incubators differed between the two countries. The implications of the research are that incubator managers from both countries could learn from each other and this research could be utilized to assess incubators in both developed and developing countries
Episode 35: Alexis Castellanos, Author of “Isla to Island”, and Her Panel Presentation during the Operación Pedro Pan Two-Day Event
In Part 1 of “Operación Pedro Pan: The Voices and Stories of Cuba’s Child Exodus—A Knights HistoryCast Mini-Series,” the Department of History’s Sebastian Garcia talked with Alexis Castellanos, an author, illustrator, graphic novelist, and a panelist at the esteemed, conspicuous, and powerful “Operación Pedro Pan: Honoring the Cultural, Historical Legacy of Cuba’s Child Exodus” Two-Day Program that Florida Humanities, UCF’s Department of English and Department of Modern Languages and Literatures sponsored (see https://cah.ucf.edu/pedro-pan/ for more details on sponsors and the program in general).
Sebastian structured this specific episode on Alexis Castellanos’ Isla to Island, a wordless graphic novel grounded by her personal family history and the history of Operación Pedro Pan (Operation Peter Pan). By analyzing such a historic event through the medium of fiction, Sebastian argued that this is one of the most unique Knights HistoryCast episodes of all time. Naturally, their conversation expanded to what she talked about during her panel presentation in Panel One, Day 1 of the event that featured “internationally renowned scholars that discussed the political, historical, and cultural legacy of Operación Pedro Pan (1960-1962).” (https://cah.ucf.edu/pedro-pan/)
