Concentration in Knowledge Output: A case of Economics Journals

No full text
This paper assesses the degree of author concentration in seven economics journals, which were published in India during 1990-2002. To measure the degree of author concentration, Lotka's Law was used. Moreover, we also make an exploratory analysis of the geographic, economics subfield and institutional concentration in 704 economics journals. An important finding of this paper is that specialized journals in the sample report the highest degree of author concentration. This result is quite similar to the findings by Cox and Chung (1991). Furthermore, there are several instances showing that the journals lean towards certain norms; this may affect the flow of innovative ideas into economics. We conclude that a knowledge activity, involving the high degree of concentration and a biased publication process, may affect the flow of new ideas into the discipline.Concentration, Lotka's Law

Effect of leaf extract of Pongamia glabra (Vent.) (Fabaceae) on histological changes of fat body of Periplaneta americana (Linn.) adult male

No full text
The fat body of Periplaneta americana usually contains trophocytes, urocytes and mycetocytes. The fat body showed some marked changes in insects injected with a sublethal concentration of Pongamia glabra [P. pinnata] leaf extract (0.05 ml of 5% concentration) through the intra-peritoneal membrane. In treated insects, the lipid vacuoles of the trophocytes disintegrated, and swollen and irregular shaped nuclei were conspicuous. The mycetocytes decreased in size, and the urocytes mostly disintegrated..RE: 16 ref.; SC: ZA; HE; VE; CA; TR; PA; 0JSource type: Electronic(1) http://upei-resolver.asin-risa.ca?sid=SP:CABI&id=pmid:&id=&issn=0378-9519&isbn=&volume=21&issue=4&spage=355&pages=355-359&date=1997&title=Journal%20of%20Entomological%20Research&atitle=Effect%20of%20leaf%20extract%20of%20Pongamia%20glabra%20%28Vent.%29%20%28Fabaceae%29%20on%20histological%20changes%20of%20fat%20body%20of%20Periplaneta%20americana%20%28Linn.%29%20adult%20male.&aulast=Ramanathan&pid=%3Cauthor%3ERamanathan%2c%20B%3bRajasekarapandian%2c%20M%3bSelvi%20Sabhanayakam%3C%2Fauthor%3E%3CAN%3E19980505846%3C%2FAN%3E%3CDT%3EJournal%20article%3C%2FDT%3

Small-disturbance angle stability enhancement through direct load control - Part I - framework development

No full text
This paper is the first of a two-part paper on the application of selective direct control of loads for small-disturbance angle stability enhancement in power systems. The change in the utility business model and developments in enabling technologies open up new possibilities for power system reliability enhancement. This paper proposes preventive modulation of selected loads through direct control for small-disturbance angle stability enhancement. An analysis framework based on the structured singular value theory has been proposed in which the controllable load range at selected buses that satisfies the desired stability robustness performance criterion is determined. Two conceptually different approaches for analysis of load modulation have been presented. Results have been presented on an equivalent of the Western Electric Coordinating Council system in the second part of this paper.PT: J; CR: 6216063, US *CIGRE, 1999, TF380216 CIGRE *IEEE, 1992, 42151992 IEEE ANDERSON PM, 1994, POWER SYSTEM CONTROL BALAS GJ, 1993, ANAL SYNTHESIS TOOLB DJUKANOVIC M, 1998, IEEE T POWER SYST, V13, P1311 DJUKANOVIC M, 1999, IEEE T POWER SYST, V14, P635 DOYLE JC, 1982, P I EL ENG D, V129, P242 ETO J, 2002, P IEEE WINT POW M NE, P1002 HIRST E, 2002, NEW ENGLAND DEMAND R ILIC M, 2002, P IEEE WINT POW M NE KUECK J, 2003, CALIFORNIA ENERGY CO RAMANATHAN B, 2003, P N AM POW S ROLL OC SKOGESTAD S, 1998, MULTIVARIABLE FEEDBA YOUNG PM, 1993, THESIS CAL TECH PASA YU XC, 2001, IEEE T POWER SYST, V16, P456; NR: 16; TC: 0; J9: IEEE TRANS POWER SYST; PG: 9; GA: 039NOSource type: Electronic(1

Liberté / Liberty

No full text
This book is a typographic interpretation of the poem "Liberté" (1942) by Paul Éluard inspired by the surrealist graphic universe. To design this book, graphic designer Rathna Ramanathan immersed herself in the surrealist typographic productions of the Kandinsky Library at the Centre Pompidou: leaflets, posters, flyers and programs, anonymous or signed, constituting an extraordinary range of daring compositions. The author was inspired by this material and, more generally, by the surrealist spirit, to create her own graphic compositions in the service of the poem "Liberté", a masterpiece by Paul Éluard with a universal theme

Three-year experience of hypospadias surgery: Bracka′s method

No full text
This is the author′s experience of hypospadias reconstruction using Bracka′s technique (mainly) over a period of three years. A total of 98 procedures related to hypospadias were done in three years. The surgical technique is described. In the author′s hand, Bracka′s technique gives good result both functionally and in appearance. Its versatility enables its use in all types of hypospadias with consistently reproducible results with minimal complications. At the end of the second stage a circumcised penis with natural looking vertical slit neo-meatus at the apex of the glans is produced
