Huai-nan Tzu : philosophical synthesis in early Han thought : the idea of resonance (Kan-ying)
No full textHuai-nan Tzu (139BC) was viewed, for its great diversity of subject-matter, ideas and style, by traditional Chinese scholars as a composite work of the Eclectic School. It is the author's contention, however, that one overriding concern pervades the work: the attempt to define the essential conditions for a Taoist political utopianism.The present study emphasizes Chapter Six of Huai-nan Tzu in expounding the theory of kan-ying STIMULUS-RESPONSE; RESONANCE, which postulates that all things in the universe are interrelated and influence each other according to pre-set patterns. Only in the True Man, who is 'one with Tao' and 'attuned to the cosmos', does kan- ying attain its ultimate realization, 'the Great Peace' and 'the Great Merging'. After all,' concludes the author, ' it is in Huai-nan Tzu that we find the statement' "The relation of the Sage to Tao is like the relation of the sunflower to the sun; although they cannot be together all the time, the fidelity of their tendency never wavers."published_or_final_versio

The suffixes 子 “zi” and 儿 “er” in modern Chinese
No full textThere are two types of affixing – prefixing and suffixing in modern Chinese. Suffix words are formed by adding a semantic morpheme and a suffix. It should be noted that in modern Chinese the number of morphemes acting as suffixes in the formation of nouns is not much. However, they stand out for their productivity. The suffixes 子 “zi” and 儿 “er” in modern Chinese are considered one of such suffix morphemes. This article is devoted to the study of the features of the formation of nouns by 子 “zi” and 儿 “er” suffixes in modern Chinese. For the purpose of disclosure of the goal, the author refers to various sources, reveals common and characteristic features only corresponding to the suffix, explores the grammatical features of the lexical units formed by the 子 “zi” and 儿 “er” suffixes and presents conclu¬sion on this topic, justifying each of them with corresponding examples. It was revealed that two, three and four-syllable words are formed by these suffixes; the nouns are formed by combination of 子 “zi” and 儿 “er” with certain verbs, adjectives, countable words, numerals; several constructions including these suffixes were identified. There are many similar features in using the suffixes 子 “zi” and 儿 “er”, which are described in this article. However, there are also significant differences, for example, the suffix 子 “zi” combined with nominal roots with the meaning of objectivity forms words with abstract concepts. And the suffix 儿 “er” sometimes forms words with a dismissive, derogatory meaning and words with the suffix 子 “zi” acquire a caressing shade. According to the study, it was revealed that in Chinese, affixing words are mainly formed by means of suffixing, the degree of use of prefixing is limited. With the help of suffixing a large number of nouns and verbs, as well as adverbs are formed. With the help of prefixation, only ordinal numerals and a limited number of nouns are formed

No full text[[abstract]]This thesis study land cultivation process from Ch’ing dynasty to Japanese-Ruled Period in Nan-Zi-Sian river mid-stream region, on the frontier of Kaoshiuang .In order to restructure the regional characteristics, we selected the power of Japanese-Ruled government in Taiwan and private Japanese corporations project to Nan-Zi-Sian river mid-stream region as the research objects.
The land cultivation before Japanese-Ruled in Nan-Zi-Sian river mid-stream region, was a process of long-term interaction between Contonese(客家人) and plain aborigines, and that of construction of different life-style in both shores of Nan-Zi-Sian river mid-stream. Despite the fact that Nan-Zi-Sian river mid-stream region had been developed for a long time , the high limitation of unstable natural environment and the characteristic of traditional self-subsistent economy, which compelled the phenomena as individual isolated settlement and scattered space.
After 1895, the colonialists accelerated a new growth of development of land cultivation in the mid-stream region. Modern cane-sugar refinery , camphor and afforestation enterprises established in this area. Moreover, after private Japanese corporations invested in mid-stream region, they not only had changed the land-use of the hillside around this area , but had controlled the land operation and agricultural activities. A crowd relationship also change.
Under the powerful control of new style land cultivation and enterprise , many landowners and gentry appeared. They became local leaders. Local leaders almost took charge of leaders of important social and economic organizations. The important social and economic organizations became the formation of space of jiezhuangmin, the space of jingchaguan , and the space of buluomin.With agriculture , market ,school ,traffic and police system developed, Nan-Zi-Sian river mid-stream region greatly was structured. Finally, this area had changed the frontier and established tightly contact to other regions.
