    The Strategies for Simple One-Point Ko Situation of Computer Go

    [[abstract]]Ko plays a very important role in Go, but most computer Go programs still cannot handle ko fights so far. Utilizing the principle of Minimax procedure, we obtain the best strategies for the simple one-point ko situation, enabling computer Go programs to gain maximum or loss minimum profit when dealing with the simple one-point ko situation. We also discuss in detail the strategies for using ko threats during the process of the ko fight.

    (A) Cell lineage frequencies for BM, spleen and PB from young and aged, KO-M and WT-M mice were determined by flow cytometry for myeloid cells, B-cells, T-cells, NK cells and erythroid precursors. There was a significant decrease in B220+ B cells in the spleen of young KO-M mice as compared to WT-M mice. (B) Cell lineage frequencies for BM, spleen and PB from young and aged, Het-F and WT-F mice were determined by flow cytometry for myeloid cells, B cells, T cells, NK cells and erythroid precursors.     Organizational Learning and Marketing Capability Development: A Study of Charity Retailing Operation of British Social Enterprises

    Social enterprise is a hybrid form of profit- and social benefit-seeking organization whereby traditional nonprofit organizations pursue both their social mission and business opportunities. To embrace this new strategic direction shift, the nonprofit organizations need to develop new competences that will enable them to respond to the changes in the business model. The article investigates the learning mechanisms through which social enterprises develop a marketing capability to deploy their resources in the marketplace as the drivers of competitive advantage in their commercial practice. We study eight cases of UK-based charity retailers, in order to address the role of knowledge accumulation, articulation and codification process in the evolution of marketing capability development. We identify, amongst other things that the critical process of organizational learning for social enterprise is to transfer the experience into organization specific knowledge under the social aspects of constraints

    Impaired Intracellular Ca2+ Dynamics, M-Band and Sarcomere Fragility in Skeletal Muscles of Obscurin KO Mice

    Obscurin is a giant sarcomeric protein expressed in striated muscles known to establish several interactions with other proteins of the sarcomere, but also with proteins of the sarcoplasmic reticulum and costameres. Here, we report experiments aiming to better understand the contribution of obscurin to skeletal muscle fibers, starting with a detailed characterization of the diaphragm muscle function, which we previously reported to be the most affected muscle in obscurin (Obscn) KO mice. Twitch and tetanus tension were not significantly different in the diaphragm of WT and Obscn KO mice, while the time to peak (TTP) and half relaxation time (HRT) were prolonged. Differences in force-frequency and force-velocity relationships and an enhanced fatigability are observed in an Obscn KO diaphragm with respect to WT controls. Voltage clamp experiments show that a sarcoplasmic reticulum’s Ca2+ release and SERCA reuptake rates were decreased in muscle fibers from Obscn KO mice, suggesting that an impairment in intracellular Ca2+ dynamics could explain the observed differences in the TTP and HRT in the diaphragm. In partial contrast with previous observations, Obscn KO mice show a normal exercise tolerance, but fiber damage, the altered sarcomere ultrastructure and M-band disarray are still observed after intense exercise

    The plasma levels of M-CSF, G-CSF, and GM-CSF were assessed by ELISA in mice kept at nonSPF, SPF, and SPF+nonSPF conditions. (A) M-CSF levels of Gfi1-ko/ko mutants were unaffected compared to controls upon all breeding conditions. (B) G-CSF is massively elevated in Gfi1-ko/ko mice compared to controls housed at nonSPF, SPF, and SPF+nonSPF conditions. (C) At all conditions Gfi1-ko/ko mice demonstrate significantly elevated GM-CSF levels. GM-CSF levels were measured by Q-Plex ELISA assay. The GM-CSF was below the limit of detection (b.l.d.) in Gfi1-wt/wt under all breeding conditions. Error bars represent SD. (D) The plasma levels of inflammatory cytokines were assessed by Q-Plex assay in control and Gfi1-ko/ko mice kept at nonSPF, SPF, and SPF+nonSPF conditions. Inflammatory cytokines such as Il-1β, Il-6, IFN-gamma, and TNF-alpha are significantly elevated in Gfi1-ko/ko mice kept at SPF+nonSPF conditions compared to their controls. Highest levels of Il-1β, Il-6, IFN-gamma, and TNF-alpha are present in Gfi1-ko/ko mice exclusively kept at nonSPF conditions. Due to sample limitations we measured for nonSPF mice serum pools (n = 2 with n = 4/pool) that were not statistically evaluated. Please note that lowest cytokine concentrations in Gfi1-ko/ko mice are present upon SPF conditions. In control mice IFN-gamma was below the limit of detection independent from the breeding condition.     This thesis is my story as an outdoor educator, as a researcher, and a co-participant reflecting on my own actions and experiences as well as those of my students. In this autoethnography I share my revelations and tensions in my role as an outdoor education teacher seeking to enrich the experiences of Māori students. Māori culture and history have largely been ignored in the outdoor education classrooms and environments of Aotearoa New Zealand. After teaching the subject for ten years I didn’t perceive that I was perpetuating the same invisibility in my own outdoor education course. Over this time a number of questions that had fermented at the back of my mind came to the fore; ‘why are so few Māori students opting to take outdoor education as a senior secondary school subject?’ and ‘how can I make the subject of outdoor education more desirable and appealing to Māori?’ A place-responsive approach incorporates and values traditional ways of learning through the notion of place and the stories attached to them. The cultural context of learning about and through place has the potential to provide learning opportunities that are relevant and meaningful to all learners but particularly Māori. Place-responsive pedagogies allow outdoor educators to create an environment where language, knowledge, culture and values are normal, valid and legitimate – contexts where Māori students can be themselves. Through this research I have found that the implementation of a place responsive approach has had significant implications for Year twelve outdoor education at Mount Maunganui College.
