    Lee Knight is interviewed by Smoky Mountain High School students as a part of Mountain People, Mountain Lives: A Student Led Oral History Project. Born in 1945 in upstate New York, Knight is influenced by both the Adirondacks and Southern Appalachian Mountains. He talks about teaching in all black schools, and newly desegregated schools in Sumter, South Carolina. Knight’s life is largely shaped by folk music and he shares stories of his travels and experiences playing, researching, recording, and saving traditional music. Knight also talks about his experiences as a raft guide for Nantahala Outdoor Center
