The problem of A.Tvardovsky's creative phenomenon is investigated in this article. The main products are the poem "Vasily Terkin" and poems from the book «Front chronicle». They are considered in correlation to atmosphere of military years which promoted clearing and liberation of poet's creative thought according to the author. The author shows how the author's point of view on war forms leading poetic intonation, defines an image of the main character but in the same time it isn't settled only «by a sight from below». Interaction of two points of view inherent to the hero national-soil (directed on action) and author's intellectual (focused on a reflection) defines an art originality of A.Tvardovsky's work and finds reflection in system of poetic means. The parallel analysis of "Vasily Terkin" and poems from «the Front chronicle» shows it

«Judged by the pastoral conscience». Diary of Vasily Sokolov «Borovetsky»
The article is devoted to establishing the authorship of the diary written by some priest of the Vologda diocese and fragmentarily published in the Vologda Diocesan Gazette in 1908–1916 under the title «Judged by the pastoral conscience», with no author’s indication. Using archival data and publications in the church periodicals of that time, the researcher has discovered that the diary belongs to the famous ascetic of the Vologda region priest Vasily Nikolaevich Sokolov (1865–1909), also called by his contemporaries «Borovetsky», which is derived from the place of priest’s service: sett. Borok of the Vologda district. As a priest, Father Vasily enjoyed great prestige among the inhabitants of the surrounding villages and the Vologda province in general; at the end of his life Fr. Vasily for several years held the position of spiritual mentor in the Vologda Theological Seminary. Priest Vasily Sokolov’s circle of spiritual fellowship included: priest Alexander Badanin (now —locally venerated saint of the Vologda diocese), priest Nikolai Karaulov (Holy Martyr Nikolai, canonized with the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia), and also hieromonk Theophanes (Kharitonov, later — famous elder of Athos), as well as Bishop Neophyte (Slednikov, died in 1918 as Bishop of Starobelsk and Vicar of the Kharkov diocese), and hieromonk of the Vologda Cross Church Simeon (Stefanov, 1867–1903; devotee of piety), and Nikita (Gromov, 1865–1935; inhabitant of the Dionisievo-Glushitsky Monastery). As shown in the article, it is Bishop Neophyte (Slednikov) who should be considered the publisher and editor of the diary. Since priest Vasily Sokolov was extremely attentive and demanding about his inner world, his diary entries are replete with indications of his unworthiness and imperfections. Being unfamiliar with the life of this ascetic priest, a reader may get the impression that the diary’s author really lives a relaxed life and is far from spiritual success.
Establishing the authorship of the diary and the biography of priest Vasily allows to correctly assess its content and opens the diary as a witness of the life of the ascetic pastor for a wide range of readers. As an illustration, some fragments of the diary are published in the appendix

Fantastic Motifs in the Prose of Vasily Yanovsky
The article deals with the problem of fantasy in Russian émigré literature of the first wave on the example of Vasily Yanovsky's prose. The author tries to show that fantasy in Yanovsky's prose has a diverse character. The writer reaches for science fiction motifs and introduces supernatural themes. Regardless of the nature of the fantasy motif, it always becomes a contribution to more serious social and moral considerations. The considerations were based on studies of literary fantasy by Tzvetan Todorov and Roger Callois. The interpretation also shows that Yanovsky's texts are full of intertextual references to the works of other authors.

Vasily Sesemann’s Philosophy of Culture
The research is devoted to the analysis of the works of Vasily Sesemann (1884-1963) on the philosophy of culture. The relevance of the study is determined by the lack of special works devoted to the explication of the thinker’s views on the phenomenon of culture, the need to identify the internal connections of the philosophy of culture with other sections within the framework of studies of the philosophical system of Sesemann as a whole. To achieve the stated goal the sources and philosophical context of Sesemann’s philosophy of culture were identified; the problems of this area that are of greatest importance to the author were analyzed, the questions posed were identified and the approaches to their resolution proposed by the philosopher were considered. This made it possible to reveal the role and place of the problems of the philosophy of culture in the system of philosophy built by the author. In the course of the analysis the deep anthropological nature of Sesemann’s philosophy, close connections between the issues of culture and man with epistemological problems were revealed; reliance on the Kantian position in understanding the phenomenon of culture was discovered, and the range of the most significant issues for the author in the area under study was determined. The work demonstrates that the central place in Sesemann’s philosophy of culture is occupied by the problem of the unity of culture and the consideration of culture as a live organism, as well as the significance of the unity of the mental-body organization of the individual as a subject of culture. Understanding the phenomenon of culture turns out to be organically connected with both theoretical and practical aspects of the thinker’s philosophy, which makes the study of these works productive for a deeper understanding of the integrity of his philosophical system

The subject of the present investigation is the novel by a contemporary author Vasily Dvortsov,
enigmatically titled ‘Kainovo koleno’ (‘Cain’s Kin’). In the article it is shown how the writer projects

new Russia, thereby depicting the spiritual and moral crisis of the Russian intelligentsia, first of all
in the theatre milieu. The writer sees the causes of the spiritual and professional degradation of his
protagonist, Sergei Rozanov, in the latter’s pursuit of worldly fame and in his non-observance of
God’s commandments
