Ph.D.The electrorotation and effective thermal conductivity of colloidal particles are investigated.For dielectric particles with small conductivity, the electrorotation can be spontaneous when the relaxation time of the impurity is greater than the one of host medium. Traditionally, the discussion of electrorotation is limited to dipole or quadrupole approximations. Here, we present a formalism beyond this limitation, and illustrate the rotation effects on the inter-particle force.The relation between thermal conductivity and temperature is often well approximated by a power law, which resembles the nonlinear response in optics. When forming a composite with other material of linear thermal conductivity, the nonlinearity does not necessarily decrease, although the nonlinear medium is diluted. Openness of China’s Manufacturing Sectors and its APEC Policy
Chinas domestic market is finally in the process of being integrated into the international market. Trade liberalization will play an important role in this process. It will expand Chinas trade opportunities further, lead Chinas manufacturing sectors to participate extensively in the international division of labor and to shift its trade patterns and industrial structure. On the other hand, it will increase the pressure of competition on domestic enterprises from imports and foreign-funded enterprises. If Chinas manufacturing sectors can not improve their international competitiveness in time, trade liberalization will not bring benefits, but rather threats, to the development of Chinas manufacturing sectors.China, Manufacturing Sector, Openess, APEC policy
Kangxi yu xifang kexue: Li Leisi de Jincheng Yinglun (Kangxi and Western Science: Buglio’s “Ying Lun”)
Translations in Chinese language made by Jesuit missionaries are an important material in the field of research related to the history of cultural exchange and circulation of ideas between China and Western countries. Apart of translations of religious works, scientific books are indeed a very useful tool of investigation and can give us an insight about the exchange of scientific knowledge between Europe and China. From this point of view, the italian Jesuit missionar Buglio and his books of zoology still are worth of research.
Ludovico Buglio S.I. (Mineo, 1606 – Beijing, 1682), chinese name Li Leisi 利类思, is a well-known Jesuit missionar operating in China in 17th century. Altough he wrote books both in Western and Chinese language, he is famous for his works in Chinese, three of them describing the West to the Chinese literati and the imperial court.
He is the author of the famous Shizi shuo 獅子說 (1678), (On Lions), wich has been studied first by Giuliano Bertuccioli (Bertuccioli 1976), and has been, recently, object of study again in China by Zou Zhenhuan (Zou 2013). Shizi shuo has been indicated as the book which probably firstly introduced the Western zoology into China. Ludovico Buglio in 1679 also wrote the Jincheng ying shuo 進呈鷹說 (Treatise on Hawks), later renamed Ying lun 鷹論 (On Hawks) later reproduced in the Gujin tushu jicheng 古今圖書集成 in 1725, during the reign of Yongzheng. The aim of my paper is to describe in details this book and the context which saw the making of this work, giving to this book the attention and the importance that it deserves. In particular I will try to discuss some questions raised by the analysis of the zoology-related lexicon used in the book, comparing them to the terms contained in the latin edition of Aldrovandi’s Ornithologiae, the main source of the book
Tong xin xi liu bao mo tai yang neng dian chi bei jie chu shi mo xi bao hu ceng de mi du fan han li lun yan jiu
M.Phil.Cu₂ZnSnS₄ (CZTS) thin film solar cell is a promising 3ʳᵈ generation solar cell absorber based on earth-abundant and nontoxic elements. However, the Mo back contact reacts with S atoms diffused from CZTS absorber during the annealing process and form detrimental MoS2 in the interface that hinders the overall performance. The amorphous MoS2 formed has an incorrect band alignment that hinders the hole collections in back contact. And the decomposition of CZTS to volatile phases degrades the back contact interface quality.The back contact efficient of CZTS cell can be improved by inserting interlayers that can block the S diffusion to prevent the formation of MoS₂ and decomposition of CZTS. Such interlayer not only needs to prohibit the S diffusion but also needs to be chemically inert to Mo and CZTS, have good electric conductivity and correct band alignment between Mo and CZTS to facilitate hole collection. Existing experimental works to prohibits the formation of MoS₂ by coating back contact with semiconductor interlayers have limitations as the material cannot satisfy all the criteria. And in existing experimental works of alternative back contact materials, Mo still offers the best performance among various metals tested. Based on the anticorrosion property and electric conductivity, we propose graphene can be a suitable candidate of protective interlayer at back contact to prevent the formation of amorphous MoS₂ by blocking S diffusion.To investigate the kinetics processes of S atom diffusion on graphene and across the graphene plane with various defects considered, the climbing image nudged elastic band (CINEB) method with structural energy calculated by density functional theory (DFT) calculation is used to calculate the minimum energy paths (MEP) and diffusion barrier. In addition, band offset calculation using local potential alignment method was performed to understand the role of graphene in hole transport. We discover that interpolation of local potential data can largely improve stability of the band offset algorithm, comparable to core level alignment method.In our kinetics studies, it was found that while S atom can easily diffuse on the graphene surface, it is hard to diffuse across the graphene plane with or without defects. Therefore, graphene can effectively prevent the formation of MoS₂ in the back contact interface. And the band offset calculation result shows that graphene is a benign interlayer in the back contact that can facilitate hole collection. A study of the English versions of Lun Yu from the perspective of hermeneutics : taking the versions of Arthur Waley and Wu Guozhen as the examples
Cultural soft power is a critical index of international competitiveness. China is the second largest economy in the world today and its culture should be attractive and influential, just as its economy is. (Li Wuwei, 2016). To fulfill this ambition, the Chinese government has put forward the Chinese Culture “going out” strategy. The language barrier necessitates translation to the strategy, which requires a translation that can deliver the Chinese culture to the world successfully.
Lun Yu or Lun Yu of Confucius is a gem of Chinese Culture, fostering and influencing the characters of the Chinese in a significant and ingrained way. Lun Yu, is a gate through which the foreigners can touch the essence and spirit of the Chinese culture. Reasonably, the translation activities towards Lun Yu have been booming for a long time. According to Wang Yong, there are 39 English versions for Lun Yu since the sixteenth century1, making Lun Yu one of the Chinese books enjoys the most translation versions, only second to Tao The King(《道德经》). The research and study towards the translation of Lun Yu is still flourishing and in its ascendant, however, most of the research and study concentrates on the lexico-grammatical features of different translation versions. The exploration of why different versions demonstrated different features or contents is still a virgin land. In the author’s opinion, this scope is worthy of deep exploration.
In November, 2015, a new translation version by Wu Guozhen was published, research and study toward this version still remains empty. This version by Wu Guozhen is quite popular among readers. The author deems it is valuable to investigate this version. What’s more, the author also holds the view that research and study towards the classical versions including the version by Arthur Waley, still has some empty aspects.
Against the backdrop of the Chinese culture ‘going out’ strategy, to facilitate a better understanding of Lun Yu and popularize Chinese culture in the world at large, render the study and research of the translation of Lun Yu and probe an appropriate translation way are imperative and pertinent. In this paper, the author will carry out a comparison between the versions by Wu Guozhen and Arthur Waley, not only covering the lexico-grammatical features, translation features, but also the reasons why they performed differently. This paper aims to understand the choices for strategies and offer constructive suggestions to the rendition of not only Lun Yu, but also other Chinese classics in the background of Chinese culture ‘going out’ strategy. For the two versions by Arthur Waley and Wu Guozhen, the main differences are derived from the different horizons of them. In the background of Chinese culture ‘going out’ strategy, the translators can adopt a translation way or method that can reflect the culture essence of the Chinese culture, for instance, a foreignized method.Master of Arts (Translation and Interpretation
