With the advances of robotics, computer science, and other related areas, home service robots attract much attention from both academia and industry. Home service robots present interesting technical challenges to the community in that they have a wide range of potential applications, such as home security, patient caring, cleaning, etc., and that the services provided by the robots in each application area are being defined as markets are formed and, therefore, they change constantly. Without architectural considerations to address these challenges, robot manufacturers often focus on developing technical components (e.g., vision recognizer, speech processor, and actuator) and then attempt to develop service robots by integrating these components. When prototypes are developed for a new application, or when services are added, modified, or removed from existing robots, unexpected, undesirable, and often dangerous side-effects, which are known as feature interaction problem, happen frequently. Reengineering of such robots can make a serious impact in delivery time and development cost. In this paper, we present our experience of re-engineering a prototype of a home service robot developed by Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology. First, we designed a modular and hierarchical software architecture that makes interaction among the components visible. With the visibility of interactions, we could assign functional responsibilities to each component clearly. Then, we re-engineered existing codes to conform to the new architecture using a reactive language Esterel. As a result, we could detect and solve feature interaction problems and alleviate the difficulty of adding or updating components

Typical robot development requires that hardware be mostly functional before significant software development begins. Utilizing virtual prototype of hardware and its environment can reduce development time and manufacturing cost. Virtual prototyping is, however, a highly challenging task requiring in-depth knowledge in many disciplines. Few of simulation tools developed to alleviate this difficulty fully manage the complexity caused by the fact that developer must design and manage form (physical shape), function, and behavior altogether incrementally. Also, such simulation tools often do not support co-development of the target software and its test environment from requirements analysis to implementation. In this paper, we present our experience of developing a virtual prototype of Samsung Home Robot (SHR) with Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT) using ASADAL/OBJ. Virtual prototyping in ASADAL/OBJ enables incremental co-development of both target system and its test environment in an object-oriented way. Furthermore ASADAL/OBJ facilitates concurrent development of form, behavior, and function. These features increase productivity as well as confidence through incremental refinement and validation. We give a brief background on the ASADAL/OBJ framework, then illuminate our experience of developing a virtual prototype of SHR

Individually Adrressable Pixel Driver Circuit for an Active Matrirx Micro-LED Automotive Headlamp

Department of Electrical EngineeringThis thesis presents individually addressable pixel driver circuit for a digitized automotive headlamp. This pixel driver is a key component of an active-matrix array that is driven by row and column drivers. It contains a 11-bit memory cell and a combination logic circuitry in order to generate a string of PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) pulse for dimming, so that it can drive the LED connected to the pixel driver by using a constant current source. The thesis also proposes a current driver focusing on the flexibility of array size, stable driving current with low static power dissipation. The pixel driver is designed and fabricated on a 180nm CMOS process and verified in array structure by using a FPGA signal source.ope

Application on character recognition system on road sign for visually impaired: case study approach and future

    Get PDF
Many visually impaired people worldwide are unable to travel safely and autonomously because they are physically unable to perceive effective visual information during their daily lives. In this research, we study how to extract the character information of the road sign and transmit it to the visually impaired effectively, so they can understand easier. Experimental method is to apply the Maximally Stable External Region and Stroke Width Transform method in Phase I so that the visually impaired person can recognize the letters on the road signs. It is to convey text information to the disabled. The result of Phase I using samples of simple road signs was to extract the sign information after dividing the exact character area, but the accuracy was not good for the Hangul (Korean characters) information. The initial experimental results in the Phase II succeeded in transmitting the text information on Phase I to the visually impaired. In the future, it will be required to develop a wearable character recognition system that can be attached to the visually impaired. In order to perform this task, we need to develop and verify a miniaturized and wearable character recognition system. In this paper, we examined the method of recognizing road sign characters on the road and presented a possibility that may be applicable to our final development

학위논문(석사) - 한국과학기술원 : 생명화학공학과, 2022.8,[iv, 26 p. :]Immunogenic cell death (ICD) has been emerging as a new aspect of cancer therapy. In order to induce effective ICD, high levels of the release of damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) are required. For inducing ICD most effectively, stress induction in endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and generation of reactive oxygen species in the of cancer cells plays a pivotal role. However, depending on the drug, ER stress induction or reactive oxygen species production may occur independently, which reduces the degree of immunogenic cell death. In addition, in the case of representative anticancer drugs, such as doxorubicin and camptothecin, the limitations of drug delivery in the body due to hydrophobicity are also clear. In this study, we developed a mitochondrial destabilizing polypeptide (MDP) which of side branches was modified with mitochondrial targetable chemical group. This polypeptide has a permanent positive charge on the side branches, which provides amphiphilicity to the polypeptide and induces mitochondrial membrane instability due to its membrane permeability through the alpha helix structure. Through these properties, it was confirmed that the MDPs can induce mitochondrial ROS and calcium ion release, and simultaneously cause intracellular ER stress and ROS production. We confirmed the inducing of ICD through the release of various DAMPs by MDPs were confirmed. This study suggested that developed novel polypeptides, MDPs, can be used as a novel anticancer agent that can be used independently on a drug delivery platform, and at the same time, and it is expected the possibility of overcoming immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment.한국과학기술원 :생명화학공학과
