Ensuring critical event sequences in high integrity software by applying path expressions
The goal of this work is to extend the use of existing path expression theory and methodologies to ensure that critical software event sequences are maintained even in the face of malevolent attacks and harsh or unstable operating environments. This will be accomplished by providing dynamic fault management measures directly to the software developer and to their varied development environments. This paper discusses the perceived problems, a brief overview of path expressions, and the author`s proposed extension areas. The authors discuss how the traditional path expression usage and implementation differs from the intended usage and implementation

A method for critical software event execution reliability in high assurance systems
This paper presents a method for Critical Software Event Execution Reliability (Critical SEER). The Critical SEER method is intended for high assurance software that operates in an environment where transient upsets could occur, causing a disturbance of the critical software event execution order, which could cause safety or security hazards. The method has a finite automata based module that watches (hence SEER) and tracks the critical events and ensures they occur in the proper order or else a fail safe state is forced. This method is applied during the analysis, design and implementation phases of software engineering

Ensuring critical event sequences in high consequence computer based systems as inspired by path expressions
The goal of our work is to provide a high level of confidence that critical software driven event sequences are maintained in the face of hardware failures, malevolent attacks and harsh or unstable operating environments. This will be accomplished by providing dynamic fault management measures directly to the software developer and to their varied development environments. The methodology employed here is inspired by previous work in path expressions. This paper discusses the perceived problems, a brief overview of path expressions, the proposed methods, and a discussion of the differences between the proposed methods and traditional path expression usage and implementation

Analysis of the containership chartermarket 1983-1992: In relation to the design characteristics of containerships
What is a good containership? This depends to a large extent on the perspective of the person answering the question, such as the shipowner, the naval architect, the shipyard, the banker, the terminal operator, etcetera. This book attempts to answer the question from the perspective of the chartermarket. How do containerships actually perform and do some ships consistently out- or under perform the market-average? The rationale for the study is the wellknown expression from the stockexchange "The market is always right". In order to base the answers on a sufficiently number of data, we have taken the ten year period from 1983 to 1992, covering some 7000 charterfixtu res. The analysis draws an indepth picture of the containership chartermarket and shows the ships which have above or below average performance. This group of ships is further analysed in terms of design characteristics, which represents valuable feedback from the market to the shipdesigners. Therefore the book is a must for all those involved in the design, operation, chartering, shipbroking and financing of containerships.Mechanical, Maritime and Materials Engineerin

Framing Egypt : Roman literary perceptions of Egypt from Cicero to Juvenal
This is a comprehensive study of Roman literary references to Egypt without preference for one particular period, author or subject, in contrast to most previous scholarship. In doing so, it shows that these references vary greatly, are context-dependent, and cannot be rightly understood when interpreted only within the normative and fixated frameworks of negative perceptions of contemporary Egypt or positive perceptions of Egypt’s antiquity. Moreover, this study suggests that approaching Roman literary references from the notion of Roman self-representationis useful for understanding and explaining their multifarious and sometimes contradictory messages. This observation does not imply that every reference to Egypt is therefore ‘Roman’. On the contrary, Egypt was occasionally framed as the Other. Yet the omnipresence of Egypt in Roman literature is of major importance when the Roman identity is at stake. Egypt, then, is neither only the Other, nor only the Self, but always a polyvalent notion in terms of identity-making.Classical & Mediterranean Archaeolog
Design considerations for permanent magnet direct drive generators for wind energy applications
Permanent Magnet Direct Drive (PMDD) generators offer very high force density, high efficiency and low number of components. Due to these advantages, PMDD generators are getting popular in the wind energy industry especially for offshore application. Presence of permanent magnets gives magnetic field for free but there are many design considerations which must be taken into account for a good design. The design considerations presented in this paper are rotor eccentricity, short circuit current estimation, voltage reflection at generator terminals due to high frequency switching and forces during magnet assembly. Simplified analytical methods which give quick results have been developed and then simulations have been performed to validate the analytical models. FEMM 4.0 which is a Finite Element (FE) solver was used for validation of various magnetic force models. MATLAB® Simulink was used for short circuit and voltage reflection validation. It was deduced that the analytical methods give good estimation of these effects and can thus be included at an early design stage.Electrical Sustainable EnergyElectrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Scienc
