Sua maestà Masud Khan: vita e opere di uno psicoanalista pakistano a Londra

    No full text

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Synthesis and characterization of ultrahigh crystalline TiO2 nanotubes

    No full text
Ultrahigh crystalline TiO2 nanotubes were synthesized by hydrogen peroxide treatment of very low crystalline titania nanotubes (TINT-as prepared), which were prepared with synthesized TiO2 nanoparticles by hydrothermal methods in an aqueous NaOH solution. Thus, prepared ultrahigh crystalline TiO2 nanotubes (TINT-H2O2) showed comparable crystallinity with high crystalline TiO2 nanoparticles. The details of nanotubular structures were elucidated by high resolution-transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), field emission-scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray analysis in transmission electron microscopy (TEM-EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD), photoluminescence (PL), and BET surface area. TINT-H2O2 was found to be a multiwalled anatase phase only with an average outer diameter of similar to 8 nm and an inner diameter of similar to 5 nm and grown along the [001] direction to 500-700 nm long with an interlayer fringe distance of ca. 0.78 nm. The photocatalytic activity of TINT-H2O2 was about 2-fold higher than those of TINT-as prepared, synthesized TiO2 nanoparticles, and TiO2-P25 (Degussa) in the photocatalytic oxidation of trimethylamine gas under UV irradiation

    Gengis Khan

The present paper is based on the results of taxonomic research work conducted in Dera Ismail Khan District of KPK, Pakistan, during 2005 - 2007. The area was extensively surveyed in order to collect floating aquatic weeds. From the study area 11 floating aquatic weed species belonging to 9 genera and 9 families were collected and identified in the light of available literature. These plants include Bryophytes: 1 species, Ricciocarpus natans (L.) Corda; Pteridophytes: 2 species, Azolla pinnata R.Br. and Marselia quadrifolia L., and Spermatophytes: 8 species, Lemna aequinoctialis Welw., L. gibba L., Marselia quadrifoliata L. Nelumbo nucifera Gaerth., Nymphoides cristata (Roxb.) O. Ketze. Nymphoides indica (L.) Kuntze:, Pistia stratiotes L. Potamogeton nodosus Poiret and Spirodela polyrrhiza (L.) Schleid. Floating weeds on one hand cause serious problems and on the other hand they are used for various purposes. Data inventory consists of botanical name, family, major group, habit and habitat, flowering period, availability, distribution in D.I.Khan, Pakistan and world, beneficial and harmful effects. Key to the floating aquatic species of the area was developed for easy and correct  identification and differentiation.Key words: Biodiversity, Floating aquatic weeds, Dera Ismail Khan, Pakistan.doi: 10.4314/ajtcam.v8i5S.1

The Mongolian Ideology of Tenggerism and Khubilai Khan

    No full text
The article examines the main stages in the development of the Mongolian ideology of Tenggerism. The author proves that the final (Third) stage of Tenggerism began with the reign of Khubilai Khan who completed the creation of a world empire by the conquest of the whole of China. Unlike his predecessors, Khubilai Khan was less engaged in the conquests than in solving the problems of pacification and consolidation of a world empire. As a result, the Mongolian ideology of Tenggerism underwent great changes through the impulse of the Buddhist religious and political philosophy. The enhanced cult of the imperial court and the colorful ceremonies of Indo-Tibetan Buddhist tantric deities (such as Mahakala and Sitapatra), introduced by Khubilai Khan at the initiative of ‘Phags-pa Bla-ma, contained a demonstration of Buddhist god-like nature of a worldwide empire. If Tenggerism had legalized the world conquests of the Mongols, then Buddhism in its Tibetan form of Lamaism was subsequently revered in order to consecrate the peaceful domination of the thin Mongolian elites over the entire world

Khan river and bear lake : two natural titanite reference materials for high-spatial resolution u-pb microanalysis

    No full text
The Khan River (Namibia) and Bear Lake (Canada) titanites are investigated as potential reference materials (RM) for LA-ICP-MS applications. The Bear Lake titanite is texturally and compositionally homogeneous. The Khan River titanite is texturally heterogeneous and characterised by variable trace element compositions and total rare earth element contents. However, both titanites have consistent U-Pb and Nd-isotope ratios. U-Pb isotope dilution-thermal ionisation mass spectrometry analyses yielded Pbc-uncorrected intercept ages of 516.3 ± 1.3 Ma (2s, n = 5, MSWD = 2.4) and 1067.81 ± 0.74 Ma (2s, n = 4, MSWD = 0.35) for Khan River and Bear Lake titanites, respectively. Multiple U-Pb LA-SF/MC-ICP-MS analyses gave consistent Pbc-uncorrected intercept ages for both, Khan River (517 ± 1/5 Ma, 2s, n = 262, MSWD = 1.5) and Bear Lake (1070 ± 1/11 Ma, 2s, n = 325, MSWD = 0.88). U-Pb SHRIMP analyses on the same material returned identical (within uncertainty) ages. Khan River and Bear Lake gave internally consistent solution MC-ICP-MS 143Nd/144Nd ratios of 0.511587 ± 0.000027 (2s, n = 2) and 0.512321 ± 0.000004 (2s, n = 2), respectively. The 143Nd/144Nd ratios via solution-MC-ICP-MS and LA-ICP-MS all agree within uncertainty and suggest that both titanites can be used as RMs for Nd-isotope analyses

Exploring Emptiness: An Investigation of MA and MU in My Sonic Composition Practice

    No full text
The commentary investigates Japanese aesthetics of space, silence and emptiness - ma and mu - that informed my compositional practice during the research period 2012 - 2015. The portfolio comprises text compositions and sound installations in which forms of micro events and sustained events are employed. Throughout, the emphasis is on my personal engagement with, and manifestation of emptiness that concerns a particular model of listening and perception. Chapter 1 discusses six primary research areas: ma and mu, material, text, form, listening and perception. Firstly, I introduce ma and mu by examining noh culture and Zeami's teaching of senu hima (where there is no-action) in the context of my personal approaches to music. The following subjects are then used to contextualise my PhD practice by means of examples from various composers and visual artists. Here, these particular and enigmatic concepts are explored through Japanese art as well as Western contemporary works by Alvin Lucier, Eliane Radigue and those of the Wandelweiser collective. Part 2 provides contextual commentaries on selected compositions from the portfolio that mostly articulate my aesthetics in relation to the topics covered in Chapter 1. koso koso addresses my methodologies to investigate the essence of senu hima, followed by treow that discusses my approach to materials and the importance of space. I move on to grade two and grade two extended in order to examine text scores, and then, look into Espèces d'espaces 03 and 04 as examples of musical forms that I employ. Finally, listening and perception are investigated through the compositions gnome and con.de.structuring. Throughout, I describe how my works explore emptiness as a result of my particular emphasis on listening over composing
