Synthesis of ultralong MnO/C coaxial nanowires as freestanding anodes for high-performance lithium ion batteries
Publisher's PDFA facile synthesis strategy is reported for the preparation of a freestanding membrane of ultralong MnO/C coaxial nanowires using a novel in situ interfacial polymerization technique. The MnO/C membrane possesses interconnected porous structures with a nanowire diameter of ca. 100 nm and a length of up to hundreds of micrometers. When used as a freestanding anode for lithium ion batteries, the coaxial MnO/C nanocomposites exhibit a high reversible capacity of 832 mA h g−1 at a current density of 100 mA g−1 after 100 cycles, good rate capability and outstanding cycling stability with a specific capacity of 480 mA h g−1 being retained after 600 cycles at a high current density of 1000 mA g−1. The uniform carbon coating formed along the ultralong one-dimensional nanostructure surface is the key-enabling factor that not only improves the electrode reaction kinetics, but also renders excellent cycling performance by accommodating the large volume variation of MnO during charge/discharge processes. The superior electrochemical properties suggest that the facile synthesis strategy can be extended to the fabrication of other freestanding films for potential application in energy storage systems.University of Delaware. Coaxial MoS2@Carbon Hybrid Fibers: A Low-Cost Anode Material for High-Performance Li-Ion Batteries
Publisher's PDFA low-cost bio-mass-derived carbon substrate has been employed to synthesize MoS2@carbon composites through a hydrothermal method. Carbon fibers derived from natural cotton provide a three-dimensional and open framework for the uniform growth of MoS2 nanosheets, thus hierarchically constructing coaxial architecture. The unique structure could synergistically benefit fast Li-ion and electron transport from the conductive carbon scaffold and porous MoS2 nanostructures. As a result, the MoS2@carbon composites—when serving as anodes for Li-ion batteries—exhibit a high reversible specific capacity of 820 mAh·g−1, high-rate capability (457 mAh·g−1 at 2 A·g−1), and excellent cycling stability. The use of bio-mass-derived carbon makes the MoS2@carbon composites low-cost and promising anode materials for high-performance Li-ion batteries.University of Delaware. Turbulent drag reduction by traveling waves of spanwise forcing
Several techniques based on spanwise focing were introduced in the last decade \cite{du-symeonidis-karniadakis-2002, quadrio-ricco-viotti-2009} in the form of traveling waves of spanwise forcing as generalization of the spanwise-wall oscillation technique to reduce skin-friction drag in a turbulent channel flow. Here we examine all their variants (including one that has never been considered before), by addressing the type of forcing (wall movement versus body force) as well as the traveling direction (streamwise versus spanwise) of the waves. We carry out a DNS-based study within an unified framework, to compare their capability to reduce skin-friction drag and, more importantly, net energy savings. The present results confirm the potential for drag reductions for every considered forcing. The best-performing spanwise traveling wave, in terms of either drag reduction or net energy saving, is found to be the one with infinite wavelength, i.e. still the spanwise wall oscillation. The streamwise-traveling waves consistently offer the best performance, especially in terms of net savings. The conditions under which body-force based control can be meaningfully compared to wall based control are discussed

A numerical study for turbulent flow and thermal influence over inhomogenous canopy of roughness elements
A large-eddy simulation with transitional structure function(TSF) subgrid model we previously proposed was performed to investigate the turbulent flow with thermal influence over an inhomogeneous canopy, which was represented as alternative large and small roughness elements. The aerodynamic and thermodynamic effects of the presence of a layer of large roughness elements were modelled by adding a drag term to the three-dimensional Navier–Stokes equations and a heat source/sink term to the scalar equation, respectively. The layer of small roughness elements was simply treated using the method as described in paper (Moeng 1984, J. Atmos Sci. 41, 2052–2062) for homogeneous rough surface. The horizontally averaged statistics such as mean vertical profiles of wind velocity, air temperature, et al., are in reasonable agreement with Gao et al.(1989, Boundary layer meteorol. 47, 349–377) field observation (homogeneous canopy). Not surprisingly, the calculated instantaneous velocity and temperature fields show that the roughness elements considerably changed the turbulent structure within the canopy. The adjustment of the mean vertical profiles of velocity and temperature was studied, which was found qualitatively comparable with Belcher et al. (2003, J Fluid Mech. 488, 369–398)'s theoretical results. The urban heat island(UHI) was investigated imposing heat source in the region of large roughness elements. An elevated inversion layer, a phenomenon often observed in the urban area (Sang et al., J Wind Eng. Ind. Aesodyn. 87, 243–258)'s was successfully simulated above the canopy. The cool island(CI) was also investigated imposing heat sink to simply model the evaporation of plant canopy. An inversion layer was found very stable and robust within the canopy

Evaluating spatial equity in bike share systems
This research analyzes 10 of the largest third generation docked bike share systems in the United States along with 3 docked bike share systems in New Jersey. These bike share systems were carefully selected to reflect diversity in their size and age, and their host region’s size and geography as well as data availability. This report was developed by the New Jersey Bicycle and Pedestrian Resource Center within the Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center (VTC) at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. The research team included Charles T. Brown, MPA, Principal Investigator, Devajyoti Deka, PhD, Aashna Jain, Anish Grover, and Qingyang Xie.
A discussion of the language style of preaching and the concept of gender in the novel Xie Xie Ni De Ai Shaliha Mell \u27s work is based on two fundamental alaan namely: first, the author of the novel (Mell Shaliha) is a Muslim woman who had been a maid in Hong Kong, and the second in the novel there is a lot of propaganda messages, both for adolescents and adults, especially for Indonesian maids. Based on in-depth study and analysis of the content of the novel, it was found that at the same time preaching style there is a gender issue Ta\u27lim preaching style and Tarbiyah, Tazkir and Tanbih, Tarheeb and Inzar, and Amar and Nahi.
