Self-Study for a Focus Visit
No full textThis self-study report is submitted in preparation for a planned focused visit by the Higher Learning Commission in March 2010. The Higher Learning Commission visited Kettering University for a comprehensive reaccreditation visit in February 2007. After that visit, the evaluation team recommended three follow-up actions in the Assurance Section of its Report of a Comprehensive Evaluation Visit to Kettering University. The first action was to require a “progress report on the adoption of a new mission statement, associated strategic plan, and implementation plan. In August 2008, the university submitted that Progress Report, which the commission accepted. The second action was to require a “progress report on the adoption of institutional effectiveness and assessment measures and their use due 9/1/2008.” In August 2008, the university submitted that Progress Report, which the commission accepted. The third action was to require a focused visit on March 8–9, 2010 on “the adequacy of resources to support the current educational programs and Kettering University’s plans for maintaining and strengthening their quality in the future.”
The commission’s report explains the purpose for the 2010 focused visit and establishes expectations for a successful outcome: “Kettering University should demonstrate that its resource base supports its educational programs and its plans for maintaining and strengthening their quality in the future.
In its discussion of the rationale for the focused visit, the commission listed four shortcomings: An over-reliance on tuition Continuously declining graduate and undergraduate enrollments An over-reliance on one-time gifts and the need to establish consistent revenue streams Concern about the institution’s ability to retain sufficient staffing to support current operation
