[Rehabilitation of an abraded occlusion with Procera-ZrO2 all-ceramic crowns. A case report]
The rehabilitation of a patient with advanced tooth wear by means of Procera ZrO2 ceramic crowns is described. A healthy, 60 year old patient complained about front teeth esthetics and impaired function due to reduced tooth height. He was aware of bruxism and wished full mouth rehabilitation. The clinical examination showed that tooth wear was generalized, but most teeth could be maintained in both jaws. A staged procedure was planned, starting with a splint therapy and a provisional fixed prosthesis to reestablish correct vertical dimension of occlusion (VDO) and stable occlusal contacts. The new ZrO2 material with the Procera technique was chosen to restore all teeth in both jaws, except the mandible front teeth. In the second treatment phase, crown lengthening of the maxillary front teeth was performed and one implant placed to replace a maxillary premolar. After final tooth preparation, impression taking and bite registration the ZrO2 crown-copings were scanned, processed and completed by veneering. A flat occlusal scheme with stable front teeth guidance was established. The advantage of the presented treatment is the esthetic result in combination with a material of high mechanical and biological quality
[The SPI implant system: clinical experience and one-year results]
The new Swiss implant system SPI became available three years ago and is used in combination with fixed and removable prosthetic reconstructions. In a pilot study the clinical procedures were evaluated and data of prosthetic complications of maintenance service were collected. 25 patients participated in the study with a total of 79 SPI implants during the time period from 2003-2004. 37 implants were located in the maxilla and 42 implants in the mandible. Two implants failed during the healing period, but no loaded implant was lost. Thus, the survival rate was 97.5% (77/79). 44 implants supported a fixed prosthesis, including nine single crowns and 33 implants were used in combination with removable partial denture. Four implants were used with ball anchor retention, 29 with bar support. The ELEMENT implant with the low implant shoulder allows very good esthetics. Prosthetic complications and maintenance service during the first year of function was comparable with other implant systems. [Anterior teeth esthetics with the SPI implant system]
Replacement of maxillary front teeth with a fixed, implant supported partial denture with a high laugh line is a demanding procedure. For an optimal esthetic result, no deficiency of bone or soft tissue is acceptable. Submerged implant healing has often been recommended for better predictability in esthetically demanding situations. This case report shows the rehabilitation with a fixed implant supported reconstruction in the upper front and a single implant supported crown in the premolar region. Teeth had to be extracted because of apical lesions, periodontal the gingiva. The technique of delayed, submerged implant placement in the region of 11, 21 and 22 was applied and in the region of 15 a transmucosal implant healing. With a fixed, implant supported partial denture the mucosa in the upper front was conditioned. Ten months after implantation the definitive screwed, fixed partial denture on SPI ELEMENT implants was successfully integrated. In the region 15 a single crown transversally screwed was fixed on a SPI ONE TIME implant. Radiographic data two years after implantation showed a well established periimplant crestal bone level. No prosthetic complications had occurred since the insertion of the reconstruction twelve months ago

The second folder contains publications by Gerda Schulman from her professional career as a psychologist. She finished her law studies at the University of Vienna just a few weeks before the Anschluss in March of 1938. Measurement of dental implant stability by resonance frequency analysis and damping capacity assessment: comparison of both techniques in a clinical trial
PURPOSE: Two noninvasive methods to measure dental implant stability are damping capacity assessment (Periotest) and resonance frequency analysis (Osstell). The objective of the present study was to assess the correlation of these 2 techniques in clinical use. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Implant stability of 213 clinically stable loaded and unloaded 1-stage implants in 65 patients was measured in triplicate by means of resonance frequency analysis and Periotest. Descriptive statistics as well as Pearson's, Spearman's, and intraclass correlation coefficients were calculated with SPSS 11.0.2. RESULTS: The mean values were 57.66 +/- 8.19 implant stability quotient for the resonance frequency analysis and -5.08 +/- 2.02 for the Periotest. The correlation of both measuring techniques was -0.64 (Pearson) and -0.65 (Spearman). The single-measure intraclass correlation coefficients for the ISQ and Periotest values were 0.99 and 0.88, respectively (95% CI). No significant correlation of implant length with either resonance frequency analysis or Periotest could be found. However, a significant correlation of implant diameter with both techniques was found (P < .005). The correlation of both measuring systems is moderate to good. It seems that the Periotest is more susceptible to clinical measurement variables than the Osstell device. The intraclass correlation indicated lower measurement precision for the Periotest technique. Additionally, the Periotest values differed more from the normal (Gaussian) curve of distribution than the ISQs. Both measurement techniques show a significant correlation to the implant diameter. CONCLUSION: Resonance frequency analysis appeared to be the more precise technique
Stability measurements of 1-stage implants in the edentulous mandible by means of resonance frequency analysis
OBJECTIVE: Resonance frequency analysis (RFA) is a method of measuring implant stability. However, little is known about RFA of implants with long loading periods. The objective of the present study was to determine standard implant stability quotients (ISQs) for clinical successfully osseointegrated 1-stage implants in the edentulous mandible. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Stability measurements by means of RFA were performed in regularly followed patients who had received 1- stage implants for overdenture support. The time interval between implant placement and measurement ranged from 1 year up to 10 years. The short-term group comprised patients who were followed up to 5 years, while the long-term group included patients with an observation time of > 5 years up to 10 years. For further comparison RFA measurements were performed in a matching group with unloaded implants at the end of the surgical procedure. For statistical analysis various parameters that might influence the ISQs of loaded implants were included, and a mixed-effects model applied (regression analysis, P <.0125). RESULTS: Ninety-four patients were available with a total of 205 loaded implants, and 16 patients with 36 implants immediately after the surgical procedure. The mean ISQ of all measured implants was 64.5 +/- 7.9 (range, 58 to 72). Statistical analysis did not reveal significant differences in the mean ISQ related to the observation time. The parameters with overall statistical significance were the diameter of the implants and changes in the attachment level. In the short-term group, the gender and the clinically measured attachment level had a significant effect. Implant diameter had a significant effect in the long-term group. CONCLUSIONS: A mean ISQ of 64.5 +/- 7.9 was found to be representative for stable asymptomatic interforaminal implants measured by the RFA instrument at any given time point. No significant differences in ISQ values were found between implants with different postsurgical time intervals. Implant diameter appears to influence the ISQ of interforaminal implants

The collection contains materials related to several members of the Kronstein/Neumann/Mueller families; both original documents as well as additional biographical information and excerpts from Gerda Lerner's book "A Death of One's Own". The bulk consists of correspondence, mainly written from Ilona Kronstein's exile in Nice to her daughter Gerda in the United States. In one letter, Ilona Kronstein describes a brief stay in the Gurs camp. In 1918, she met Robert Kronstein. The couple married a year later and moved to Vienna. They had two daughters: Gerda, born in 1920, and Nora, born in 1925. Between 1928 and 1933 Ilona studied art with Johannes Itten. She opened her own studio in 1933. In 1938, after several weeks in a Gestapo prison, she fled with her two daughters, Gerda and Nora, to Liechtenstein, where her husband was already waiting. After a few months in Vaduz, she went to a small town near Nice and solely devoted herself to art. It was in Nice that she became friends with the painter Rudolf Ray. In 1940 she was detained in the concentration camp at Gurs for several weeks and from 1941 onwards she began to show signs of multiple sclerosis. Her family managed with great difficulty to get her back to Liechtenstein in 1942 and to obtain medical assistance for her in Switzerland. She died in Zurich in 1948.In 2000, the Jewish Museum Vienna exhibited drawings and pastels by Ilona Kronstein, which her daughters Gerda Lerner and Nora Kronstein-Rosen donated to the museum in 1997.Ilona's sister Margit Neuer (born 1899) was a physician and perished in Auschwitz. Her second sister Klara (born 1903) married Alexander Mueller, a psychiatrist and close co-worker of Alfred Adler. As a stateless person he was denied residence in several countries and forcibly sent across the border back to Germany, until he finally obtained residence in Holland. After the Nazi takeover of the Netherlands, he and his wife fled to Budapest, where they survived the Russian siege and he survived Eichmann's death march to Austria. After the end of the war they first returned to The Netherlands, then found refuge in Switzerland, where Alexander Mueller accepted a position at the University of Zuerich. He died in 1968.Elizabeth Breznitz, née Klein, was born in Léva (then Hungary, today Levice, Slovakia). Her first husband, Leo Kalmer, died in a concentration camp in Bavaria; she was liberated from Auschwitz in 1945, but her father and her stepmother perished. After the war she lived in Plzen, Czech Republic. Her letters are of great interest to understand the daily life of a Holocaust survivor in Czechoslovakia.Gerda Kronstein came to the US in 1939, where she married Carl Lerner in 1941. She received her Ph.D. at Columbia University in 1966. She is one of the founders of women's history and a former President of the Organization of American Historians. In 1972, she founded the first graduate (M.A.) program in women's history in the US at Sarah Lawrence College. In 1980 she founded the first PH.D. program in women's history at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
