Analysis of the Algerian Novel Fahla (Rabah Sbaa) from a Sociolinguistic Approach
This study analyzes the Algerian novel Fahla from a sociolinguistic point of view. The author has taken the initiative to write his novel in Algerian and in Latin characters and Arabic characters for both Arabic and Francophone readers since Algerian remains uncodified to this day. The main objective is to observe the linguistic system of the Algerian language and that of the standard Arabic one to understand the functioning of the dialect mentioned above and demonstrate the need to study its linguistic typology and the phylogenetic relationships between the two languages. It is essential to investigate the relationship between language use, society, and identity to compare them. The novel is an appropriate example to analyze this three-dimensionality of language as osmosis that reflects the uniqueness of each speaker. A sociolinguistic study is carried out to evaluate the validity of Algerian as an official language. Fragments of texts that reflect these characteristics are considered following a qualitative methodology based on the observation and interpretation of data to demonstrate the use of various literary resources, syntax, structures and phrases of a language which is considered a dialect. The analyzed work reveals the real attitudes of society through the Algerian language for the first time in the literary field. It is a linguistic revolution that accompanies the social revolutions of recent years. The importance of communication in the mother tongue is shown through this work. To further raise awareness in the sociolinguistic community, there must be more encouragement for authors and journalists to write in this language, just as it is used by the media and culture (through means such as the theatre and the cinema) to emphasize the importance of identity values, including verbal and written expression in the mother tongue
The Status of the French Language in North Africa
This study focuses on the current linguistic situation in certain North African countries and the changing status of the French language during this last year due to ideas proposed to favor the English language (Erling, 2021). First of all, the study analyses the linguistic situation of three countries, Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco. Then, it discusses the hypothesis and the evolution of the French language in the aforementioned countries. Following that, the methodology is explained. It uses a qualitative approach that is based on the observation to reach appropriate conclusions. The next section examines the status that the French language has in the three mentioned countries to compare it with the previous year (2022). This is according to the information from the summit of Francophonie in Djerba (Kasri, 2022). Finally, the challenges required to improve the situation are reflected upon and relevant conclusions are presented
Didaculturation and Themes of History and Politics
The objective of this article is to make a didactic proposal based on cultural studies for various university courses. The project addresses three axes: knowledge through literature, creation through historical and political events, and innovation through forms of artistic expression. In this study, history and politics are addressed as teaching and learning approaches based on accumulated knowledge and culture. This is used so as to bring realities closer to learners and relate media texts to reality, which encourages learners to reflect on issues of great interest for the evolution of society, through what we will call "Didaculturation". A syllabus proposal can then be adapted to the needs of modern society and to address university failure

University Education in Algeria during the Covid-19 Pandemic: Limitations and Challenges
The study deals with the subject of learning languages online. Many studies (Chelghoum & Chelghoum, 2020; Arabeche & Soudani, 2021) have been carried out over the last year to investigate the needs of the pedagogical changes as a result of the world health situation. The Covid-19 pandemic wreaked havoc all over the globe. This unprecedented situation created huge complications for citizens worldwide, with emergency offices suddenly appearing in students’ and workers’ kitchens, bedrooms, and living rooms due to the large-scale lockdowns and stringent restrictions on movement put into place by governments. The sudden and unexpected nature of this “new normal” left very little time for acclimatisation to the online learning modes, with students and teachers alike adapting and improvising. This study aims to investigate the difficulties of Algerian students and analysing the interactive techniques which could be applied in language studying, and overcoming the barriers of computer screens. In this case, we address the goals used in university teaching in Algeria to be able to understand the situation and draw a possible new strategy to achieve a quality education. First, the topic is introduced, followed by an analysis of teaching and learning methods during the COVID-19 pandemic. Afterwards, the methodology is defined, highlighting the relation between the Psycholinguistics (Hanim Rahmat, 2018) and the Communicative Approach (Hymes, 1972). A qualitative study is carried out to describe the problems faced by the students and offer some possible recommendations, taking into account the social context experienced during the 2020-2021 academic year
Transversality and Language Teaching
This paper focuses on the importance of transversal competence in language classes. Several studies show the need to teach culture in the language class because they so often go hand in hand (Deoksoon, 2020). However, a vast amount of students are able to dominate the languages studied without giving a great deal of importance to cultural studies that are significant for creating debates
Algeria's 2019 uprising and the significance of slogans: a discourse analysis
In 2019, millions of Algerians staged demonstrations, throughout the entire country, for months against the whole political regime calling for change and democracy. The protesters used the medium of slogans to both communicate their political demands and hopes, and to respond and react to politicians¿ speeches and the successive decisions made to appease the protesters¿ anger. This paper aims to analyse a number of slogans as political and social practice performed by protesters, taking into consideration linguistic and semiotic elements in specific context(s). The work draws on a number of devices, such as humour, intertextuality, word plays, etc.; to analyse the persuasive effect of their messages. Drawing on data collected from placards and banners, from several demonstrations over several weeks and locations across the country, this paper reveals that these slogans mirror the sociolinguistic structure of the community, the identity of its members and the linguistic devices employed to reach their goals
