Community, environment & history: Keppel Bay case studies

    No full text
Keppel Bay is a beautiful, inspiring and diverse stretch of the Central Queensland coastline. It has a rich geological past, varied ethnic cultures and communities and a challenging economic future. Keppel Bay stretches from Yeppoon and Rosslyn Bay to Great Keppel Island; from Port Alma to the upper Fitzroy River; and from Sandy Creek Point to Keppel Sands. The contributors to Community, Environ-ment and History: Keppel Bay Case Studies have tried not so much to paint a picture of what the past was like, but to cultivate a deeper and more textured appreciation of place. This book focuses on the provocative issues of the ecology and environment, human modification on the coastline and Fitzroy River, community identity, resort and tourism development, ethnic diversity, challenges to local parks and wildlife and ensuring services of fresh water and sewerage. It also looks at what challenges the current residents of Keppel Bay have to face in sharing the region's glorious natural assets in a sustainable long-term relationship. Readers serious about understanding and applying sustainable landcare practices and urban and rural property managment will applaud the well researched route that this book has taken to chart the settlement, development and potential of the Keppel Bay coast. This collection of studies on the Keppel Bay reinforces that the environment is the cornerstone of our healthy existence. They provide not only a history lesson, but also one in sustainability. --Publisher description

Improvement in the Yttrium Solid Target Deposition via Magnetron Sputtering for Zirconium-89 Production

    No full text
Magnetron sputtering (MS) technique as a new approach for medical radioisotope production has been under investigation by different research groups in the last decade. In case of Zr-89 radioisotope production it was shown that MS technique can be used for Yttrium solid target production. In previous report [1] it was demonstrated the possibility of Yttrium disks production of 60-70 μm thickness and its upgrade in terms of purity [2]. Our further research idea was to develop a process of thick targets deposition (at least 150 μm), maintaining low stress level and high adhesion. To reach such goal it was decided to decrease the distance between magnetron and sample holder from 7 to 4 cm. Essentially it must lead to deposition rate rising, but also may create issues with stress and uniformity. To perform the target production with new deposition setup it was done stress tests and deposition rate measurements. In addition, for the first time it was performed also the uniformity measurement. As a result of the work a new batch of the Yttrium solid target (Y-5) was produced and send for further irradiation at the Hospital Sacro Cuore in Negrar

<p>Average daily real-time salinities measurements (PSU  =  practical salinity units) on reef flats at A. Halfway Island, B. Clam Bay, C. Middle Island, D. Miall Island and E. North Keppel Island and on reef slopes at F. Halfway Island, H. Middle Island, I. Miall Island and J. North Keppel Island (data for Clam Bay slope were not available) and G. tide heights (Lowest Astronomical Tide, chart datum) at Square Rocks weather station 21 December 2010 to 10 May 2011. The sites are shown in a continuum of increasing distance from the Fitzroy River mouth. The two time points at which coral condition was recorded for this study (December 2010 and May 2011) are marked with a red arrow.</p

Sputtering of Nb onto Cu QWR Plates for the ALPI Upgrade in the framework of SPES Facility

    No full text
The ALPI linear accelerator, as part of the SPES facility, requires the upgrade for the increasing of the energy, transmission and reliability of the accelerator [1]. One of the main parts of the ALPI upgrade is the installation of two additional cryostats in the high-β region of the accelerator [2]. 8 high-β Nb/Cu QWR cavities and 8 Nb/Cu plates should be produced for the upgrade of the ALPI linac. The technology of the plates production for the QWR cavities is extremely important. The quality of the produced Nb/Cu QWR plates has a direct influence onto the cryogenic performance of the cavity-plate systems, which will be installed in the ALPI linac during the ALPI Upgrade

Investigation of a possible material-saving approach of sputtering techniques for radiopharmaceutical target production

    No full text
Magnetron sputtering (MS) is a relatively new deposition technique, which is being considered among the cyclotron solid target (CST) manufacturing options now available, aiming at the medical radioisotopes yield for radiopharmaceutical production. However, the intrinsic high material losses during the deposition process do not permit its use with extremely expensive target materials, such as isotopically enriched metals/oxides. In this study, R&amp;D technology for a new recovering shield is instead proposed to assess the dissipation of target material during the sputtering processes and, thus, an estimate of the material recovery that may be feasible and the related amount. The weight-loss analysis method is used to assess the material losses level inside the chamber during processing. In all tests carried out, a high-purity copper (99.99%) was used as a target material. As a result of this study, the material distribution for both magnetron and diode sputtering depositions can be calculated. The feasibility of the ultra-thick coatings growing, devoted to CST production, is demonstrated

Current Status of the Copper High-β QWR Cavities and Plates Niobium Deposition for the ALPI Upgrade Project in the Framework of the SPES Facility

    No full text
The ALPI linac will be used in the SPES facility for acceleration and re-acceleration of the radioactive beam of interest. The ALPI linac in Legnaro National Laboratories is in an upgrade stage in order to fit the SPES facility requirements. One of the main scenarios of the upgrade is implementation of two cryostats in high-β section of the linac. Development and modification of the Nb/Cu sputtering technology for production of the high-β QWR cavities and plates has been performed for several years in INFN LNL. The latest results of the cavities and plates niobium deposition will be described in this paper
