Bolton concerning O'Kane, commenting on the late patient's mental instability in the last phase. Further comments on the origin of the total sum disposable to O'Kane; his wife's role in changing the will. Then, in reference to their talk about conditions in Ireland, stating it is hard to comprehend the peril of the situation north and south for one removed from the scene. At length recounting his attempt to help identify a man involved in [a night of murder] in 1920, after Lord Mayor McCurtain's death [a certain Wilson D.T.]. Also, he mentioned the McCurtain's murder from the altar and just escaped being shot by the Black and Tans because of it. (See below among undated [1925], a postscript might have belonged here.

Then at length discussing the family history of Dr. O'Kane (Vicar General), Maghera, since he has been mentioned as a possible successor and has made allusions himself. Both his father and uncle fathered illegitimate children; a half-brother of O'Kane's is son of a Presbyterian woman and is himself a Freemason. O'Kane's ordination itself disconcerted some in the village. Testimony could be found for all this
