    Comparing the Effects of Automat Use on Assembly Line Performance in the Apparel Industry by Using a Simulation Method

    In this article, general information related to efficiency, assembly lineS and simulation are primarily reviewed. previous studies on assembly line balancing are theoretically analysed. Thereafter two different assembly lines are designed to produce jean trousers. In one assembly line - manual machines and in another automats are used for seven selected operations. These assembly lines are modelled by the Promodel Simulation Program and the assembly line balancing problem is applied. The aim of the study is to establish which assembly lines have the highest line performance and to research the effects of using automat in assembly lines on production volume and efficiency. The simulation method formerly informs investors about the consequences of their investment in the decision making process for technology investments. The study concludes that automat usage on an assembly line increases the production volume and affects the efficiency of assembly line positively

    Comparing Heuristic and Simulation Methods Applied to the Apparel Assembly Line Balancing Problem

    In this study, general information on assembly line and simulation and researches on assembly line balancing are theoretically analysed. Afterward time studies with respect to blouse production, which will be analysed in assembly line balancing, are conducted and information, which is necessary for assembly line balancing, is obtained. In parallel with the data obtained, the assembly line is firstly balanced by the Hoffman method, which is one of the heuristic methods. Then the assembly line is balanced again using the Arena Simulation program and results which belong to two different assembly line balancing resolutions are given. The aim of the study is to create an assembly line which has highest line efficiency by using an optimum number of machines and operators as well as highlight the applicability of the Hoffman method to ready-to-wear assembly lines

    Study on the Importance of Employee Performance Assessment and Lost Productive Time Rate Determination in Garment Assembly Lines

    This study primarily includes theoretical information on the performance and lost productive time of a firm. Furthermore t-shirt sewing operations of a garment firm were analysed and time measurement for each operation was carried out by the time keeping method. By considering the measurements obtained, different performance estimations, the firm's lost productive time rates, and the standard time was calculated within 5 different scenarios. According to each sewing standard time obtained, the assembly line balancing practice was carried out using the Hoffman method. Later on results of the assembly line balancing were compared, and the importance of employee performance assessment and its lost productive time rates for firms were discussed. The aim of the study was to emphasize the value of impeccable determination of the employee performance assessment and lost productive time rates. Consequently garment firms will be more cautious in calculating the standard time and will be able to reach their production target within the accurate measurement they obtain

    Analysis of Ultrasonic Seam Tensile Properties of Thermal Bonded Nonwoven Fabrics

    Ultrasonic seam strength and elongation at break properties of thermal bonded nonwoven fabrics are discussed in this study; and the effects of fiber type, fabric area density, and roller type on ultrasonic tensile properties of nonwoven fabrics are reported. Polypropylene (PP), Polyester (PES), and Polyamide - Polyester (70% PA - 30% PES) blend of thermal bonded nonwoven fabrics were used, and the seam strength and elongation at break were measured and the obtained data were evaluated. At the end of the experimental studies, the data from the ultrasonic tensile properties of thermal bonded nonwoven fabrics which were made of different fibers and same production method were evaluated in order to determine the tensile properties which lead to the best result. The experimental results show that the PP thermal bonded nonwoven fabric tended to provide the best seam strength and elongation at break values

    Effects of perfume on mechanical and color properties of cotton fabrics

    Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to examine the effects of perfume on cotton fabrics and satisfy the perfume user's curiosity on this issue. Design/methodology/approach - In this study, the selected perfume was applied on woven and knitted cotton fabric samples in order to investigate the effects of perfume on mechanical and colour properties of the fabrics. For this purpose the chosen perfume was applied in two different amounts (four spraying and eight spraying) from the same distance to the fabric surface. Then the fabric samples were left for 24 hours in order to fulfill the daily usage conditions. Samples were evaluated in terms of tensile strength, pilling and abrasion tests, respectively. Colour measurement test was performed for investigating the fading effect of the perfume and FTIR analysis was carried out for examining the chemical changes. Findings - Result of the study revealed that perfume did not have any effects on tensile strength properties of cotton knitted and woven fabrics and caused serious decrease in pilling and abrasion values and negatively affected colour characteristics of fabrics. Originality/value - In literature there was no study investigating the effect of perfume on mechanical and colour properties of garment. Thus this study will be the first concerning this issue

Sosyal medya; kişilerin kendilerine ait duygu ve düşünceleri paylaştıkları ve başka kişiler ile iletişim kurarak bağlantılı oldukları internet temelli uygulamalar bütünüdür. Sosyal medya araçlarında bulunan uygulamalar tüketicilerin satın alma davranışını etkileyip şekillendirmektedir. Son yıllarda giyim modasının sosyal medyada yayılması ve özellikle tesettür giyim modasının tüketicilere ulaştırılıp tanıtılmasında büyük önem taşır. Sosyal medya hem tüketiciler hem de işletmeler açısından büyük rol oynar. Bu nedenle sosyal medyanın tesettür giyimi tercih eden tüketicilerin davranışları üzerine etkisini araştırmak büyük önem taşımaktadır. Bu çalışma, konuyla ilgili teorik bilgiler ile uygulama bölümlerinden meydana gelmekte ve sosyal medyanın tesettür giyimi tercih eden tüketicilerin satın alma davranışı ile arasındaki bağlantıyı ortaya koymayı amaçlamaktadır. Çalışmanın teorik kısmında; sosyal medya, sosyal medya araçları, satın alma davranışları ve bu davranışları etkileyen faktörler vb. konular ele alınmıştır. Araştırma bölümünde ise; sosyal medyanın tesettür giyimi tercih eden tüketici davranışına olan etkisini ortaya koymak amacıyla hazırlanmış olan anket, sosyal medya kullanıcılarına sunulmuştur. 750 sosyal medya kullanıcısına uygulanan anket çalışması sonucunda elde edilen veriler SPSS paket programına girilmiş ve bu veriler analiz edilmiştir. Sonuç olarak, tesettür giyimi tercih eden tüketicilerin satın alma sürecinde sosyal medya araçlarının etkisinde kaldıkları ortaya çıkmıştır.Today, communication technology is developing rapidly herself. This study consists of theory and practical part of the veil and social media aims to reveal the relationship between the behavior of consumers who prefer to wear. The theory part of the study; social media, social media tools, and so on purchasing behavior and the factors influencing this behavior. It is made of the literature related to the topic. In the research department; social media veiling questionnaire which was prepared in order to determine the impact of consumer behavior who choose to wear, were answered presenting social media users. 1000 social media users the responses of the resulting data were analyzed using SPSS software package all data. As a result, the veil has emerged that they are affected by social media in the process of consumers who prefer to buy clothes

    In this study mechanical properties of the ultrasonically bonded nonwoven fabrics were investigated. For this purpose polypropylene, polyester and polyester-viscose nonwoven fabrics which have three different fabric area densities were obtained. Then nonwoven fabrics were bonded to each other by using ultrasonic sewing machine and two layered structures were produced. Also polyethylene film was placed between two nonwoven fabrics and these three surfaces were bonded by using ultrasonic sewing machine and three layers fabrics were obtained. Tensile strength and elongation at break properties of the 2 and 3 layers structures were investigated and effect of the polyethylene film on the mechanical properties of the 3 layers structures was studied. And higher mechanical properties were obtained from the 3 layers polypropylene-polyethylene film-polypropylene structures

    Applying Different Heuristic Assembly Line Balancing Methods in the Apparel Industry and their Comparison

    The problem of assembly line balancing is extremely important for apparel companies. It indicates the necessity of a well-balanced assembly line since the process of the production of clothes is complicated and it consists of many processes. A well-balanced assembly line enables to produce a product in an optimum time, as a result of which it allows to use fewer machines as well as less material and labour during this production. In this article, studies performed on assembly line balancing were theoretically analysed, and then a time study of T-shirt production with respect to assembly line balancing was performed and data needed for assembly line balancing acquired. In parallel to these data obtained, firstly assembly line balancing was applied using 5 different heuristic methods, and then the assembly line was balanced using the classical method. The results of the solutions for the assembly line are compared. The aim of this study was to establish the assembly lines which have the highest line efficiency and to research the applicability of the methods examined in ready-to-wear assembly lines
