Noteworthy characteristics of the marketing decisions in service industry of emerging economies: Cases of Romania and Malaysia

As a result of previous authors' research work and consulting experience, this paper presents some key aspects, specific to the relatively inexperienced management of the firms active in tourism and hospitality industry from emergent economies - such as that of Romania or Malaysia - and whether they are from small and medium size, or they are from recently privatized companies.Based on real cases, the sales elasticity curve is analyzed and a quantitative model is developed. In the domain of unit price - sales, the "Value Hysteresis" phenomenon is identified and defined. Non-linear dependence is identified as well, specific to the unbalanced markets (as far as supply-demand ratio) and extreme values of the elasticity coefficient are presented (such as E = 0 and E → - 8). Negative consequences of "automatic" marketing decisions based only on theoretical models are underlined - as their impact on clients' satisfaction and firm's profitability.Among the most important conclusions of the paper are: the key role of marketing information and research; importance of consumer loyalty; the growing role of the professional consulting services in management, mostly in tourism and hospitality industry from emerging economies

    No full text
The relationship between push and pull factors with the intention to revisit a destination has often been investigated in the context of general tourism. Not much is known on the factors influencing MICE destination revisit intentions, despite the numerous socioeconomic benefits that many countries have received from the MICE tourism business. This article attempts to fill the gap of knowledge by critically reviewing the literature using the integrative review approach. By reviewing, critiquing and synthesizing major literature on the issue, two push factors i.e. networking and educational opportunities and four pull factors i.e. destination image, travel costs, attraction and accessibility are established as influencing revisit intentions to MICE destination. Then a theoretical model of relationship between those factors and MICE destination revisit intentions is proposed.

    No full text
Airline services are known to be the most elaborate in terms of service. There are many breakdowns of services in airlines industry. They can be divided into four main areas; these are passenger services, baggage or cargo services, engineering services and catering services. In Malaysia, the airlines industry was monopolized by the Malaysian Airlines until 2001, when Air Asia decided to introduce no-frills discounted airfares. However, with the introduction of cheap frills discounted airline through Air Asia, the need of service quality itself is being questioned. Are the passengers more receptive towards price rather than service quality when it comes to flying domestically? The purpose of this survey is to explore the passengers' views on service quality provided by Air Asia that they had experienced.Chang and Yeh's (2002) modified model of SERVQUAL was used in this study while integrating Parasuraman et al. (1985) original five-point Likert scale. The study was conducted in the departure hall of Langkawi International Airport. The respondents consisting of 88 passengers who have had experience with this airline and were selected based on convenience sampling.Descriptive analysis and mean comparison are used to analyze the data. There were two main findings in this exploration.First, Air Asia does not meet the service quality standard expected by the passengers.Secondly, majority of the respondents participating in this study, choose price over service quality

Thus, the main objective of this study is to predict the future potential of tourism in Malaysia from 2003 through to 2010, using a qualitative method known as the Delphi method.20 tourism experts are selected as the panel judges in this study.Their opinions and perceptions in predicting the future potential of tourism are important as they represented most of the tourism sectors in Malaysia. The findings of the study indicated that the Delphi method is an effective qualitative method in predicting the future potential of tourism in Malaysia since a consensus among the panel judges was reached only in a second round of the survey. Thus, their agreement also indicated that the Delphi method is an effective measurement tool. The panel judges also agreed that the community value systems and the tourism structures would increase in parallel with the growth of tourism in Malaysia from 2003 through to 2010.In addition, they also agreed that Malaysian would become an international tourism destination by the year 2010
