MIMO Terahertz Quantum Key Distribution Under Restricted Eavesdropping

    No full text
Quantum key distribution (QKD) can provide unconditional security to next-generation communication networks guaranteed by the laws of quantum physics. This article studies the secret key rate (SKR) of a continuous variable QKD (CV-QKD) system using multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transmission and operating at terahertz (THz) frequencies. Distinct from previous works, we consider a practical “restricted” eavesdropping scenario in which Eve can collect only a fraction of photons lost in the environment. We propose a system model for the MIMO THz CV-QKD system that accounts for restricted eavesdropping via a lossy wireless channel between Alice and Eve. We derive for this system new SKR expressions for both coherent-state-based and squeezed-state-based CV-QKD protocols. Our results show that previous analysis assuming unrestricted eavesdropping leads to overly pessimistic SKRs, and that in practice, the achievable SKR can be significantly increased under restricted eavesdropping. The increase in the SKR is quantified by the simplified SKR expansions derived in this article. Our results also reveal that squeezing is beneficial for improving the SKR only for unrestricted eavesdropping. However, in a practical setting with restricted eavesdropping, increased squeezing leads to a reduction in the SKR

Antiferromagnetic resonance in a-Fe2O3 up to its Neel temperature

    No full text
Hematite (alpha-Fe2O3) is an antiferromagnetic material with a very low spin damping and high Neel temperature. The temperature dependence of the antiferromagnetic resonance in a bulk single crystal of hematite was characterized from room temperature up to the Neel temperature in the frequency range of 0.19-0.5 THz. From these data, the Neel temperature was estimated as 966 K. (C0 2022 Author(s).LPM

Response to a Research Article Entitled: Prevalence of Lactose Intolerance and its Association with Malnutrition in Children

With clearly outlined prospects for research, I congratulate Dr. Neel Kanth and colleagues for their interesting study on the “Prevalence of lactose intolerance and its association with malnutrition in children”, published in a recent issue of the National Journal of Health Sciences (NJHS, Volume 4, Issue 3, 2019) [1]. The high prevalence of lactose intolerance documented by the authors is confirmed by a recent meta-analysis, which found a lactose malabsorption among adults and children aged 10 years or older of 58% in Pakistan [2]. The 2018 Pakistan National Nutrition Survey also showed that 40.2% children were stunned, 28.9% were underweight, and 17.7% were wasted [3]. The authors rightly pointed out that further research is urgently needed to better understand the association of lactose intolerance and malnutrition in children [1]. However, in my opinion, here are two aspectsworth mentioning

Neel Doff – pisarka niezwykła. Między naturalizmem, populizmem, feminizmem a autofikcją

    No full text
Neel Doff (1858–1940) is an extraordinary person in the history of Belgium literature. Extreme poverty and humiliation she had experienced in her early days are the main topic of her work. However, she does not document her life. It is more akin to a literary testimony of a growing self-consciousness, through which a social and cultural advancement of both the author and her character was made possible. The analysis included in the article is focused on her most outstanding work – the trilogy of “hunger and despair”. Key words: belgian literature; naturalism; populism; feminism; autofiction; identity

This electronic version was submitted by the student author. The certified thesis is available in the Institute Archives and Special Collections.Thesis: M. Eng., Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, 2018Cataloged from student-submitted PDF version of thesis.Includes bibliographical references (pages 149-154).Cryptocurrencies have garnered an increasing amount of attention and grown dramatically in value. Like financial assets, they are traded continuously across a number of exchanges. This thesis presents the design and implementation of a system for real-time data collection of pricing and trading activity for four cryptocurrencies across three exchanges. Using the data collected for the US Dollar to cryptocurrency order books from May 4, 2018 to May 9, 2018 we find that arbitrage opportunities exist in 0.03% to 40.38% of five-second intervals depending on the specific cryptocurrency and exchanges considered. Analysis of the signed trading volume shows that trading behavior differs in the presence of these arbitrage opportunities, but we find only weak evidence suggesting that market participants actively exploit such opportunities on sub-minute timescales.by Neel Hajare.M.
