Nanoindentation Response Analysis of Thin Film Substrates-II: Strain Hardening-Softening Oscillations in Subsurface Layer

No full text
Abstract We have extracted stress-strain field (SSF) gradient and divergence representations from nanoindentation data sets of bulk solids often used as thin film substrates: bearing and tooling steels, silicon, glasses, and fused silica. Oscillations of the stress-strain field gradient and divergence induced in the subsurface layer by the nanoindentation have been revealed. The oscillations are especially prominent in single indentation tests at shallow penetration depths, h<100 nm, whereas they are concealed in the averaged datasets of 10 and more single tests. The amplitude of the SSF divergence oscillations decays as a sublinear power-law when the indenter approaches deeper atomic layers, with an exponent −0.9 for the steel and −0.8 for the fused silica. The oscillations are interpreted as alternating strain hardening-softening plastic deformation cycles induced in the subsurface layer under the indenter load.</jats:p

Nanoindentation Response analysis of Thin Film Substrates-I: Strain Gradient-Divergence Approach

No full text
Abstract Nanoindentation is a widely-used method for sensitive exploration of the mechanical properties of micromechanical systems. We derive a simple empirical analysis technique to extract stress-strain field (SSF) gradient and divergence representations from nanoindentation data sets. Using this approach, local SSF gradients and structural heterogeneities can be discovered to obtain more detail about the sample’s microstructure, thus enhancing the analytic capacity of the nanoindentation technique. We demonstrate the application of the SSF gradient-divergence analysis approach to nanoindentation measurements of bulk silicon.</jats:p

Organization and legal basis of Karlis Ulmanis regime

Šajā darbā tiek pētīta 1934. gada 15. maija valsts apvērsuma rezultātā radušās autoritatīvās valsts pārvaldes formas radītās pārmaiņas, to iespējamā nepieciešamība un tiesiskais pamatojums. This study determines that the actions of Karlis Ulmanis and his accomplices did not have legal justification and were criminally punishable according to the April 24, 1933 Penalty law. The author draws conclusions about the consequences and influence of Karlis Ulmanis authoritarian rule on the Latvian state and Latvian people, and finds that after April 16, 1936 citizens of Latvia no longer had any effective influence on the legislation of Latvia and were misled about their influence over legislation through the Camera system. The study examines the process of how the coup took place and how the new state power was organized and finds that the usurpers used nonexistent threats of a civil war break-out in order to gain public support, and that the few existing radical organizations did not pose a substantial threat to the existence of a democratic Latvian state. Additionally, individuals are identified that were responsible for the abolishment of the division of executive and legislative powers.
