Probabilistic Liquefaction Analysis Using Standard Penetration Test
The Youd etal liquefaction resistance curves developed in 2001 to characterize the cyclic resistance of soil based on SPT test are the most used in the context of the Seed and Idriss simplified procedure as a deterministic model. These curves were developed from a modified database of Seed etal. in 1985 with the assumption that the actual peak shear stress (τd) induced at depth h is always less than that predicted by the simplified procedure (τr) of Seed and Idriss (rd= τd/τr1). As in this case, the assumption of the simplified procedure is not verified, Filali and Sbartai have proposed a corrector factor (RC) in the range where rd>1 to adjust the deformable and rigid body. In this paper, we will present a probabilistic study for the evaluation of the liquefaction potential using a database based on SPT measurement compiled after the Chi-Chi Taiwan earthquake, in which the cyclic stress ratio is evaluated using the proposed corrector factor. The objective of this study is to present a probabilistic shape of the cyclic resistance ratio (CRR) curves based on the original simplified method of Seed and Idriss and the corrected version and a new formulation for computing the probability of liquefaction
Liquefaction Analysis using Shear Wave Velocity
The Andrus and Stokoe curves developed based on shear wave velocity case history databases, are the most widely used in the context of the Seed and Idriss simplified procedure as a deterministic model. Theses curves were developed from the database according to the calculate cyclic stress ratio (CSR) proposed by Seed and Idriss in 1971 with the assumption that the dynamic cyclic shear stress (τd) is always less than the simplified cyclic shear stress (τr) deduced by Seed and Idriss based on their simplifying hypotheses (rd= τd / τr <1). Filali and Sbartai in 2017, showed that rd can in many cases be greater than 1, and they have proposed a correction for the CSR in the range where rd >1. In this paper, we will present a probabilistic study based on the Bayesian method for the evaluation of the liquefaction potential of a soil deposit using a case history database based on shear wave velocity measurement. The result of this analysis shows that by using the corrected version of the simplified method, the boundary curve is moved to a new position. Then, the objective of this study is to present an adjusted mathematical model which characterizes the new position of the boundary curve (CRR) and a new formulation for computing the probability of liquefaction based on the probabilistic shape of the CRR curves using the corrected and the original version of the simplified method
A Look at the Condition of Women in Malentendues by Azza Filali
A Look at the Female Condition in Malentendues by Azza Filali
This article analyzes the female condition through the central character of Malentendus by Azza Filali. It explores the tensions between social injunctions and individual aspirations, highlighting how the author constructs a female figure striving for emancipation in a Tunisian context marked by deep contradictions. The study examines the narrative and discursive strategies that reveal the obstacles, resistances, and ambiguities shaping the character’s journey. Adopting a literary and socio-critical approach, this article investigates the representation of power dynamics and identity issues in the novelCe travail propose une analyse de la condition féminine à travers le personnage central de Malentendues d’Azza Filali.

The fight over holy sepultures reflects both the cult of a revered figure and a struggle for prestige and power. Through the intermediary of its sheik each tribe tries to impose itself and extend its territory at the expense of its rivals by claiming the nobleness and the pre-eminent and sacred character of its favorite saint. His burial place is said to be more venerable or more prestigious than those of the neighbouring tribes or villages. The saint’s tomb which is supposed to shelter the “baraka”, source of power and wealth, becomes the object of an intense rivalry between the tribes’ chiefs. Real or fictitious noble origins are claimed by each of the tribes who intend to impose its hegemony or pre-eminence over the others.

The Contribution Of The Third United Nations Conference On The Law Of The Sea To The Development Of International Law And Its Codification Particularly From The Perspective Of Developing States
The two Geneva conferences on the Law of the Sea of 1958 and 1960 left many issues of the ocean unresolved such as: nuclear tests on the high seas; pollution of the high seas by radioactive materials; conservation of the living resources of the sea; the coastal states preferential rights to fishing; and the limit of the territorial sea and the outer margin of the continental shelf. The Four Geneva Conventions of 1958 are met with opposition by the Third World States. The developing states believe that these conventions are the product of a European law which for more than a century kept them colonized, exploited and oppressed. The world of today witnesses a change in international relations. Poor and underdeveloped states are "uniting" together to make a common claim for a better life. They are striving for a change in the existing international institutions. The Law of the Sea proved to be a controversial and decisive one because of the new development in technology and the territorialization and claim of rights over the ocean by states. These new developments were a challenge to international law in general and to the law of the sea in particular and proved the inadequacy of existing international institutions to meet today's problems. The widening economic gap between the prosperous and poverty-stricken nations of the world has propelled the underdeveloped nations of the world to place vigorous demands for a New International Economic Order. It is within this context that the Third United Nations Conference on the Law of the Sea was convened. It was an occasion for the underdeveloped nations to participate actively in the elaboration of a new legal order for the ocean. The Third United Nations Conference on the Law of the Sea lasted nine years and produced a comprehension treaty on the law of the sea. The present study is an analysis of the decision-making process of the Third Conference on the Law of the Sea and the substantive innovations made to the traditional law of the sea. This dissertation suggests that the new procedural devices launched by U.N.C.L.O.S. III will be suitable for future United Nations conferences held for the Progressive Development of International Law and Its Codification.</p
