SERDANG, 15 Mac – Sekumpulan pelajar tahun dua Bacelor Kejuruteraan Perisian, Jabatan Kejuruteraan Perisian dan Sistem Maklumat, Fakulti Sains Komputer dan Teknologi Maklumat (FSKTM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) memenangi tempat kedua pertandingan ‘The 2017 HILTI INTERNET OF THINGS COMPETITION’ (IoT)
To ‘dump’ or not to ‘dump’: changing, supporting or distracting behavior
The way we manage our personal information varies considerably between users. An exploratory study was conducted to investigate the decision making process when storing new items and in particular their dumping behavior, which we define as putting in some unclassified/partially classified storage. It was found that users 'dump' when unsure where to store, do not have the time to decide where to store, or not want to lose sight of data - these all have an impact on future retrieval. Understanding this behavior suggests design opportunities to support users, raising awareness of previously encountered but dumped information
Value Proposition Design: Multi-sided Platform Business Model
Discourse on Value Proposition Design for Multi-Sided platform business model in the context of Human Computer Interaction and User Experience (HCI-UX) is scarce. This paper proposes a consideration how HCI-UX could receive compelling benefits from the use of Value Proposition Design (VPD) concept. Understanding of the underpinning principles of VPD will shade new horizon for HCIUX. Designing the right value proposition for the targeted customer segment is vital to product and business success. Disruptive business models have been known
to have compelling value propositions embedded in them. Value proposition can be designed using the value proposition canvas approach and embedded in the business model. It will undergo several innovations to get the best fit meeting the customer profile. However, the value proposition of multi-sided platform business model has an extra advantage. It is not only designed by having the right communities or customer segments onto a platform creating mutually beneficial values. In addition, it harnesses the network effects resulted from the value creation. This is the significant advantage it has over the traditional value proposition canvas design. The multiplier attribute of the network effects accelerate growth achieving faster business model fit. Network effects are the main reason that makes multisided platform business model predominant in unicorn companies, start-ups, and established businesses. Reframing value proposition problems from HCI-UX and other related fields of knowledge into multi-sided platform could help these areas
take advantage of the network effects. This is especially true if the network effects can be made amenable to optimization
Using diary to uncover users' personal information management (PIM) behaviours
There are various techniques used in HCI to understand users’ personal information management (PIM). behaviours. In our project, we used a diary as a technique to uncover more dumping factors as embedded behaviour that users might have while managing their information on their personal information spaces (PIS). In this paper, we described how we conducted a diary study and highlighted how our diary study affected our data. Later, we suggest how a diary study can better be implemented in a HCI project
Using empathy approach to design type-2 diabetic user persona
Empathy approach can be utilized as a tool to uncover sensory information. It also uncovers the experience of target-audience and builds a better understanding of their behaviors and concerns, incorporating them as user-profiles and personas. Modern technology draws a lot of success from how relatable it is to the average person, when designing an interactive technology, the human element is of the highest significance. To develop usable, high efficient and user-friendly application, we must understand, capture and analyze the essence of target audience issues and concerns. This helps the development team to cognitively imagine and communicate how the end-user will interact with the proposed design in a meaningful way. Type-2 diabetes is unquestionably a life-altering incident; to be able to fully understand it, one must focus less on the technical aspects of the issue and more on the human aspects. This research paper adopts an action ethnography approach to create a degree of empathy for diabetic users; bring attention to the significance of health related characteristics for type-2 diabetes personas and demonstrate the process and usefulness of these tools in user requirement gathering, design and implementation planning
Designing a mobile app to support a healthy lifestyle (MAS-HeaL) for type-2 diabetes patients in Malaysia
M-Health applications targeting diabetics have not only been inapplicable and inappropriate to people’s cultures, context and experiences. Many mobile application designs show general design that fits all types of diabetes and all types of users regardless of their cultures and countries. Therefore, the aim of this research study is to establish the requirements for type-2 diabetes in Malaysia using the user-centered approach. The result of the evaluation shows that the proposed application has been proven in sum to be effective in achieving its objectives, efficiency and satlsfactory with regards to the user requirements. In addition, the proposed application will assist developers and other researchers to design and implement an effective, highly usable and ease to use M-Health application for consumer health technology for Asian type-2 diabetes patients
Before and after : user's knowledge maturity within personal information management.
Personal Information Management (PIM) is an important discipline that evolves with the technology advancements
in their operating systems. The understanding of its four main activities in PIM : organizing, retrieving, deleting and archiving are crucial because the information growth in our desktop increased overtime. The paper presents the study conducted to enhance understanding of one of the
causes for core phenomena–user’s knowledge maturity
which was identified in prior studies . The qualitative approach is taken to deepen our understanding on this cause.
As a result, we found that several issues pertaining to time and users’ task have increased their knowledge on organizing-keeping information on their desktop
Analysis and development of customer billing telephony system
The telecommunications industry has gone through series of development efforts to provide quality services to their consumers. Generally, telecommunication industry provides two main services such as telephony and internet which involved customer registration, billing and payment. However, the challenge confronting telecommunications industry is to meet the customer satisfaction in the billing system such as accuracy, easy to understand and unambiguous billing issue. In order to develop Customer Billing Telephony System,a user experience study is conducted to gather the user requirements. Hence, the CBTS was developed that takes into consideration user’s value experience that provides a support for managing and monitoring billing process. Then the CBTS was evaluated by the users using User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ) to prove the efficiency and correctness in billing process. The result shown that the users give the positive feedback of the CBTS
