Visible Light Induced Photocatalytic Activity of Polyaniline Modified TiO2 and Clay-TiO2 Composites

    No full text
Sonochemical synthesis of Titania, Titania-Polyaniline, and Clay-Titania-Polyaniline composites were car-ried out. The composite systems were characterized by various physico-chemical techniques. Photocatalytic activity was tested selecting some common dyes as substrates. Composites exhibited higher activity for the degradation of dyes under visible light in most of the cases. © 2013 BCREC UNDIP. Isolation and Identification of Crude Triacontanol from Rice Bran Wax

    No full text
In present investigation crude triacontanol was isolated and identified from rice bran wax. Triacontanol was isolated by saponification and extraction method. The obtained mixture is crude Triacontanol. It was analyzed by Gas Chromatography (GC) and melting point method. Purity of triacontanol was 13.33%. 1Department of Botany, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad (M.S.), India; 2Department of Botany, University of Pune, Pune (M.S.), India* Corresponding Author, Email: [email protected] Cite This Article As: Sandhya Jaybhay, Pankaj Chate and Avinash Ade. 2010. India's National Population Policy (2000): An Evaluation

professional paper for the fulfillment of the Masters of Public Policy degreeThis paper examines the quality of India’s family planning practice under the National Population Policy (2000) or NPP-2000. The intent of NPP-2000 is to eliminate unmet contraceptive needs by providing high quality reproductive healthcare. In particular, the NPP-2000 aims to address flaws in healthcare infrastructure and to achieve a total fertility rate of 2.1 births per woman by 2010. Unfortunately, the implementation difficulties of past years persist in the era of NPP-2000. Indian families are subject to poorly-trained healthcare personnel and insufficient medical supplies, among other setbacks. Using interviews with family planning professionals and data from quantitative and qualitative studies, the following analysis exposes widespread variation in the quality of family planning practice. Additionally, the author proposes strategies to address unmet contraceptive needs in northern states and among disadvantaged populations.Agrawal, Sandhya. (2009). Present paper deals with the effect of chitosan at different concentration on seed germination of okra. It was revealed that chitosan at 0.03%, 0.12%,0.3% and 0.6% concentration induced seed germination in okra while at 0,03% there was maximum seed germination percentage as compare to other treatments. 1Department of Botany, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad- 431 004 (MS), India; 2Department of Chemistry, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad- 431 004 (MS), India; 3Department of Botany, University of Pune, Pune -411 007 (MS), India.* Corresponding Author, Email: [email protected] Cite This Article As: Sandhya Jaybhay, Asha Chate and Avinash B. Child Nutrition in Rural India: Some Policy Priorities and Strategies

    No full text
The most neglected form of human deprivation is malnutrition particularly among preschool children. Millions of Indian children are equally deprived of the rights to survival, health, nutrition, education and safe drinking water. Interventions for preschool children (Early Childhood Care and Development) in India must be broadly addressed in three dimensions: child health, child development/education and child nutrition. The specific objectives of the study are to examine the current picture of nutritional status of preschool children in rural India; to analyze the policy priorities related to essential components of early child care and development and its interventions; and to suggest the strategies to combat malnutrition among preschool children in India. There are a number of factors affects child nutrition either directly or indirectly. Strategies for preschool children in India require three essential components. They are, system of food entitlements, system of child care and system of health care. Problems of malnutrition among preschool children needs to be addressed through right away. This paper is an attempt in this regard

Climate Change: A Threat to Human Health

    No full text
Climate change will have a wide range of implications to human health. These include thermal-related morbidity and mortality due to extreme temperatures, effects associated with air pollution, impacts of extreme weather events, malnutrition, water-borne (e.g. diarrhea, cholera, typhoid) and vector-borne diseases (e.g. malaria, dengue). Much of the health risk posed by climate change is preventable or curable through the scale-up of existing health programmes and interventions. Intensive action to strengthen public health systems and to promote sustainable and healthy development choices can enhance current health conditions as well as reduce vulnerability to future climate change

Hunger, Malnutrition and Millennium Development Goals: What Can Be Done?

    No full text
Malnutrition causes a great deal of human suffering, and it is a violation of a child’s human rights. Even today 46 per cent of all children in the country continue to be underweight and a very high proportion of women suffer from anaemia, India is one of the countries with the highest proportion of malnourished children in the world, along with Bangladesh, Ethiopia, and Nepal. In spite of its remarkable economic growth in the past decade, India’s progress in reducing child malnutrition has been excessively slow. The care of young children cannot be left to the family alone – it is also a social responsibility. United Nations agreed to work toward eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)—specific, measurable targets to be met by 2015 that will make definite improvements in the lives of the world’s poor and hungry people. Without appropriate policy interventions, the hope of achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) is bleak. This is because adequate nutrition is a fundamental requirement for children healthy living and development. The present study carried out with three objectives in view; to examine the current trends and determinants of hunger and malnutrition among children in India, to examine the progress regarding some health and nutrition related MDGs and to suggest the cross-cutting strategic approaches to reducing hunger and malnutrition .The main findings of this study, under-five Children are nutritionally the most vulnerable and series of interrelated factors of hunger and malnutrition from rooted in poverty, including a lack of access to food, health care, safe water, sanitation services, and appropriate child feeding and caring practices. This paper argues for cross-cutting strategies for their nutritional needs, even though there is a close relationship between health, growth, nutrition and development in this age group and these dimensions need to be considered holistically
