{0,...,k} is an L(2,1)-labelling of G of span k if any two adjacent vertices are mapped onto integers that are at least 2
apart, and every two vertices with a common neighbour are mapped onto distinct integers. It is known that for any fixed k>=4, deciding
the existence of such a labelling is an NP-complete problem while it is polynomial for k=8, it remains NP-complete when restricted to planar graphs. In this paper, we show that it remains NP-complete for any k>=4 by reduction from Planar Cubic Two-Colourable Perfect Matching. Schaefer stated without proof that Planar Cubic Two-Colourable Perfect Matching is NP-complete.

Get PDFThe Paul Schaefer collection consists of ca. 62 cu ft of correspondence, maps, litigation manuscripts, legislative documents, pamphlets, circulars, published materials, photographic material, audio recordings, video recordings, and art prints. The collection is in good condition, however some of the material exhibits water or insect damage. The dates within the collection range from 1870 to1997, with the bulk of the collection falling between 1940 and 1997. OIKOS. 2011;120(3):418-426.We found no positive effect of increasing predator functional group richness on prey control. However there was evidence for strong composition effects between the functional groups. The presence of ants in predator assemblages reduced the prey suppression through mostly trait-mediated intraguild interactions, while hunting and web-building spiders contributed additively to prey suppression and reduced the density of herbivore and decomposer prey by 50-60%. A trophic cascade on plant biomass triggered by web-builders and hunting spiders was diminished at levels of higher predator group diversity.In conclusion, our experiments showed that intraguild interactions strongly influence the strength of top-down control by generalist predators. Among spiders there was evidence for a positive relation between functional group richness and prey suppression but the overall outcome strongly depended on the occurrence of interference, driven by trait-mediated indirect interactions

Get PDFThis paper describes FiFoSiM, the integrated tax benefit microsimulation and computable general equilibrium (CGE) model of the Center of Public Economics at the University of Cologne. FiFoSiM consists of three main parts. The first part is a static tax benefit microsimulation module. The second part adds a behavioural component to the model; an econometrically estimated labour supply model. The third module is a CGE model which allows the user of FiFoSiM to assess the global economic effects of policy measures.
